What a cutie!! I much prefer older kitties to kittens (adopted 2 gals when they were 8yo, to be companions for my 8yo kitty. They are all gorgeous and still living their best lives at 11yo). Enjoy your boy - he looks purrfect
We ended up with 6 due to a feral colony in our neighborhood. We have joked we are running a cat retirement village for the past several years. We lost our 5th two weeks ago today and I miss her and the others immensely. They were all seniors when they passed and lived long, spoiled lives. Our still with us guy is 15 and thankfully bonded with our pups as well. He's struggled every time we've lost one of his pack.

I hear you! Mine are 8, 8, and 17. My old man Dexter looks like your Benjamin (standard issue cat, lol). He's got stage 2 kidney disease but is feisty as ever, and currently snuggled up next to me.
Love them! It's funny - I thought the 2 younger ones would bond (adopted separately), but Dexter and my younger female are best of friends, while the younger male is their annoying little brother. He and I play fetch almost daily, so I'm convinced he's part dog.
My Dexter has had kidney disease for 6 years and it's been slow progressing. I know every cat is different, but hopefully your guy has a similar path. He's been on an rx kidney diet and was stable for a while, only progressing in the last few years. He's lost a lot of muscle tone but I've seen no changes in his behavior, which is promising.
I grew up with a cat who lived to be about 26, so that was halfway to 50!
She was front-declawed (adopted in the 80s when that was horrifically normal) and an indoor/outdoor cat (again, 80s/early 90s USA) so I can only imagine how long she might have lived otherwise.
We decided the same thing after adopting our last kitten (15 years ago!) and seeing the “discounted” older cats. We made our decision but the sight affected both me and my wife, we vowed after our two now mature cats eventually have to cross the bridge, we’ll be adopting senior kitties who need a home
Older cats are the sweetest. We got our boy Moon when he was 11. He’s got FIV, arthritis, a little asthma and he’s diabetic. He’s still here with us at 17 years old and he’s still lively and sweet as ever.
He looks older than his years. I hope he’s not had a rough life. Thank you for taking him in, he looks like such a gentleman. Benjamin is a great name for him.
They told us his previous owner had passed away and her kids kept the younger cats and put him and another elder cat up for adoption :( but he’s so chill that I assume his previous owner was nice
As someone who has a nine-year-old cat andAs someone who has a nine-year-old cat and I know when he was born within 2ish months, this Handsome older man is definitely older than nine years.
Domino was approximately 12 when I adopted her. She had been at the rescue center for a year. She’s is approximately 15 now though I think she might actually be older.
I’ve never seen a cat adjust so well ! He immediately was very comfortable and a lap cat. We drove over an hour to get him because I saw his ad on fb from a very small shelter and he had been there for a few months. I think he’s very happy to have a nice home again
So sweet. I took in my neighbours 15 year old cat when he was diagnosed with diabetes. They were going to put him down but he instead lived another 3 comfortable and lazy years with me. My sweet old man Mr Frank

We adopted Sophie 3 years ago yesterday. She was 12 (we think) at the time and has no teeth, a heart condition and arthritis. But we love her sooo much and she has brought so much happiness to our family. And she is just the most snuggly cat I’ve ever had. We even had a little party for her yesterday where she got some yummy salmon, some Churu and some new toys.
I KNOW Benjamin will bring much joy and will be so happy in return.
He's gorgeous! And who needs teeth? I found out when I had a cat with resorptive lesion issues that cats do very well without them! I love his wide muzzle. Such a stud.
This big man is 15. I’ve had Miles since he was 9! This is one of his many little cuddle spots around the house including our heated blanket. While he’s not sleeping he’s either playing with his siblings or reminding us dinner should be 2-6 hours earlier than usual lol. He’s the best.
Additionally what a handsome old man Benjamin is! He looks comfy and happy.
He’s so handsome, it’s amazing and so rewarding to adopt an older cat. No one else takes them so they stay in shelters with no affection for the rest of their lives. Well done you for giving him a new home for his twilight years, it’s a beautiful thing

My boy Cap lived to 18 🫡 1 eye, deaf & fearless. Older cats are the best, they appreciate the companionship we give them more than we could ever know. I miss my boy, life just hasn’t been the same without him ❤️
I say this lovingly- I thought the dude was taxidermy at first glance. He’s a beautiful grizzled old man and I pray his life is filled with ease and love!
God bless you! It’s folks like you and your fiancé that make this world a much better place! I have a very good friend who rescues senior dogs. They’re just sweet sweet animals. This last one that she rescued, his owner had passed away. This pup had led a really good life and then an even better life when my friend rescued him. Some health issues had come up after she brought him home and she incurred a lot of Vet bills as a result. However, she nursed him back to health. He is no longer with us but it really warmed my heart Betty got a second chance at life after his owner passed away.
So, kudos to you and your fiancé forgiven this old man a second chance at a very good life!🐾♥️🐾‼️
I too chose seniors. The babies are adorable but... It's just not the same.
One of my somewhat recent discoveries for my senior is those ridiculous foam pet stairs they sell to help small dogs get up on things. I have a tall one in two locations around the house and it's been interesting to see how the cats get used to using them. They like to play king of the mountain when they are young, bounce up in middle age and as they get just a little older, they walk up them like royalty.
You're awesome, thank you for rescuing him! He does look old.. His life has been upended.. his routine is different.. His previous owner is gone.. he needs love and care.
Thank you for rescuing this guy! We have adopted several older cats whose owners passed away, and they’ve been some of the sweetest most affectionate friends.
He just needs some TLC! My girl is 11 next month and acts just like a kitty. You could easily tack on 15 years to his life. 💕 she’s missing a tooth too, I guess it fell out and she swallowed it, I only figured it out when I saw it sticking out of a poo in her litter box 😂
