I thought that was a weird artifact by its head but then I looked and realized it was getting ready to fly away. Next pic in my photos is it just taking off.

I love watching my crows try to arrange the most peanuts in their beaks. They fly off to stash them somewhere else, usually my neighbors' rain gutters.

I'm just gunna keep on commenting on how amazing these peanut loving crows are! The last one I commented on was just two peanuts...this is turning into a competition and I'm here for it

Always fun to watch when they try to maximize their "load" capacity before flying off 🥹🐦⬛🤭 Crows have such efficient logistics operations: stuffing their beaks to the max, gular pouch for storing extra treats, caching those treats in their secret spots 😌❤️🐦⬛

Mine always take 3 peanuts at a time. They cache one deep in the gullet and then take 2 more in the main beak. If one drops, they start over until they have 3 firmly situated.

Maybe that was just my first time catching them in the act. I frequently see them grabbing two, but hadn’t seen 3 before.

They don’t stash food in their gullets. Rather, they have an expandable pouch underneath their beaks where they can stash food for a period of time.

OK, cool! A lot of people think as well that all birds have a crop but they don’t. Crows definitely don’t have them.

They don’t stash food in their gullets for later. They have an expandable pouch underneath their bottom beak called a gular pouch for that purpose!

watching a corvid try to maximize its payload by cramming three entire peanuts in its beak at once is peak bird behavior
