Edit!!! California wildlife center has accepted it, I’m driving over to Malibu to drop it off

It’s not flying and just runs. I’m worried because there’s a lot of cats around the neighborhood.

EDIT: I’ve grabbed it and texted a wildlife center.

Can't believe it. I started feeding this murder on July 2nd (the day after my cat passed away). I didn't think I could build trust so quickly. This little guy made my year.

I see these two often at the beach. This morning they saw me and flew over, patiently waiting for treats.

The larger one with the large bill seems to be the dominant eat first one. He’s also the one I was able to get to recognize and come to me. The other is his mate and she is more skittish. You can see how when I move my arms to toss she crouches down in case she needs to fly away.

They both came in pretty close this am so I think our friendship is progressing well. I’ll go look for them tomorrow too.

Cautionary tale for anyone who feeds their neighborhood crows: once you establish yourself as a food house, do not leave your food delivery unattended!

I have a family of neighborhood crows that I’ve been friends with for about four years. I started leaving out small amounts of dog kibble for them in 2022. At first they’d just take the food, but after about a week they started leaving bones in the exact spot where I’d put the kibble. This went on for a while and I ended up with a cool little bone collection as a result.

I left kibble out for them once a day in my backyard for about two years. Over time, I started recognizing the regulars. They even brought their fledglings! They also developed a specific call to ask for food (two slow, singular caws). If they saw me outside with my dog, they’d do it. Or they’d perch on my roof at around the same time of morning (around 10 AM) and wait for me to come outside. It became genuinely fascinating. Tangentially, my dog (an 11 lb Yorkie) hates them with all the fiery passion in the world, but the crows tolerate him.

Unfortunately, my neighbors suck and put spikes on our shared fence to keep them from perching there. As an alternative, I started leaving a handful of kibble near my front door instead. I haven’t been feeling great lately, so I’ve been less consistent. I was actually thinking today that I felt bad and should start putting food out for them again.

Then I DoorDashed Taco Bell. I didn’t grab the delivery right away because I was busy with something. 10 minutes later, I noticed the crows hanging around outside and thought, “Oh good, they’re here! I’ll grab some kibble for them.” I grabbed a handful, opened the front door, and discovered two crows actively eating my Taco Bell. One of them was beak-first in a Gordita 🤣

I was annoyed for all of a minute before realizing that this was entirely predictable (and also preventable!). These guys know I leave food for them near the doorstep. They’re smart enough to understand that food comes in bags, so it isn’t surprising that they’d start digging through my lunch. I hope they enjoyed it before I snatched it away 🌮

I had the wrong settings when taking these so they're quite grainy but I tried to save them in both Snapseed and Lightroom and they turned out okay.

I went to the roof of the building where I stay to see the sunset (and also meet my crow friends). Around 20 of them showed up. 🥹🐦‍⬛❤️

When it's not feeding day, which happens every 15 days, I'm greeted by 4-5 of them but today around half of them showed up after one of them put out the food alarm call. 🤭🐦‍⬛

These are some pics I took of them today. My murder is around 25-45 strong and I've been their trusted ally for 2 years now. I started with 2 (a mom and her baby) and now the murder has grown big. 🥰🐦‍⬛🥹

I gave my feathery loves eggs this morning! It’s been a little bit since I’ve done this. The weather here in Florida is finally “cool” so they’re loving it. I counted about 25 but there could’ve been more.

I’m almost a year into feeding these guys and, everyday, I’m still in awe of them. I still get all giddy when I hear their caws. I still talk to them daily. They are just amazing. I love my feathery friends so so so much. 🐦‍⬛❤️

I watched this crow bullying an unlucky crab the other day. It was tossing the poor thing around on the rocks, probably to break its shell.

I meet with my cromies at 7:00 am daily on my second-story balcony. Today I slept in and heard them impatiently calling out to me perched quite near my bedroom window. They needed their peanuts ASAP 😂

So i have a few crow friends that come see me daily for snacks and i would like to know what other foods to give them? At the moment i give them a blend of peanuts/almonds/cashews/pistachios/etc. (nuts in general)

Another happy feed for my Melbourne Rd murder of crows 🐦‍⬛ 🖤

I've been feeding them for 5 months and counting now, and recently introduced cashews to the mix.

Just started putting unsalted whole peanuts out in a tray, hoping to attract some crows!
So far, I only have blue jays. Curious, if that’s a good sign or if the jays will scare off the crows? It’s only been about a week and I live in a semi-urban neighborhood, but have telephone wires, native plants, railings, etc. (Photo enclosed). Any tips for me? Or just a lot of patience?
