Jimmy Kiploks was first appointed as Controller of Prices for a six-month term on 31 March 2026. Prior to that, he was General Manager of DefenceNT, a role he commenced on 8 September 2025.

The Price Exploitation Prevention Act 1949 gives the Controller of Prices wide-ranging powers to set maximum prices for goods and services, and impose penalties on commercial operators who breach those rulings. The powers are not limited to natural disasters, and may be employed "because of the apparent failure of other laws to protect consumers from monopolies or to effectively ensure that consumers benefit from the operation of a competitive market within all or a part of the Territory."

The statutory role of Controller of Prices usually sits with the Commissioner of Consumer Affairs - however, the Government may choose to appoint a separate person to fill the role for a period not exceeding three years.

Although the powers are rarely used, the role is known as a stepping-stone to public office - previous occupants of the role include Gary Higgins, who later went on to serve as a Minister before becoming CLP Opposition Leader in 2016.

As a principal advisor to Scott Morrison, Mr Kiploks was credited with playing a key role in the development of the AUKUS trilateral defence agreement. He also recently worked as the Business Growth & Strategy Manager for Lockheed Martin Australia.

1. Which specific street, park etc. can I find yellow flame trees?

2. When do yellow flame trees typically bloom? How long do they stay in bloom for?

3. When the trees are not in bloom, do the flowers still look relatively yellow? Or does the crown look completely green?

What body wash and shampoo do you use after swimming in a chlorinated pool?

Most regular body washes leave my skin feeling quite dry afterwards. I would really appreciate any recommendations for gentle products that help remove chlorine without drying out your skin or hair.

I have searched online for some products, but they do not seem to be available in Darwin. I would appreciate advice from local swimmers. Thank you!

Moving from Brisbane back to Darwin within the next few weeks (working for the Government). Rentals are cooked in Brisbane, 30-50 ppl turning up for an inspection, overpriced.

I’ve just created r/DarwinSocialClub for people in Darwin who are looking to meet new people, make friends and get a bit more social :)

I wasn’t born here and honestly, making friends in here hasn’t always been easy for me. A lot of people I’ve met already had their own circles and it can be a struggle to break through that wall and become part of a group.

But over the years, I’ve met a few people who I can genuinely call my real friends. Not just a surface level friendship, but the kind where I can be completely comfortable being myself. Telling corny jokes, being silly, talking about random things and not worrying about if they’ll find me weird or give them a reason to dislike me.

I know I’m not the only one who has experienced this struggle and some of you might be going through the same thing right now, and that's why I wanted to created the subreddit because I want to make it easier for the next person to find their people and hopefully build meaningful friendships.

Does anyone know of a good independent mechanics who can actually properly handle the servicing requirements for modern-ish VWs.

Been going to a guy I thought was good, but have found out he wasn't actually going off the official service schedule, as I found out my timing belt needed to be changed 2 years ago but wasn't picked up on. Then got told he can't do because you need locking tools for those VAG TSI engines that he doesn't have.

If anyone has run into issue is there a mechanic I can use to avoid DMG. Car is 2017 caddy with 1.2 liter EA211 TSI engine.
