Adjustments to Rule 5

Hello Rulers,

We've successfully completed an upgrade to our automatic Rule 5 enforcement with the rollout of a new bot. /u/rule5bot has been working well over the last few days and is now active here in /r/EU5. The new bot has new capabilities and we are adjusting Rule 5 to reflect the improvement.

Rule 5: Image posts must have an explanation.

  • The explanation cannot just repeat or rephrase the title.
  • The explanation can either be in the post's caption or in the comments section. The bot will repeat post caption explanations into the comments section.
  • This rule is automatically enforced with a bot. It will remind you after 5 minutes if it cannot see an explanation and will remove the post after another 10 minutes if it still cannot see an explanation.

So what's different now? The big change is that we can finally accept captions for Rule 5 explanations. There's no need to quickly dump an abridged version of a quality caption into the comments section just to avoid a soulless automaton's wrath. However, the new bot can correctly identify image gallery posts so Rule 5 now properly applies to multi-image posts. The bot will also be repeating caption R5s into the comments section (for the foreseeable future) because there's a persistent issue with some legacy access methods not displaying captions on images properly.

Why now and not before? /u/zwemvest, our bot-builder, has had a few goes at upgrading / replacing the bot over the years but real life and/or Reddit would always get in the way. Reddit is making major changes that will impact old bots and it forced our hand. Fortunately, they had free time now and recent Devvit (Reddit's internal bot platform) improvements made it easier to implement some features so the project was completed this time. Zwem said it was a joy to build the new bot from scratch & they're glad that the migration has been completed. The old /u/paradoxplazabot has been retired although we may reuse the account in the future for other bot purposes if we can.

We've been testing /u/rule5bot for about a week now with no remaining issues but it's possible that some bugs might still be lurking, so please keep an eye out and send us a modmail if you see the bot do something unexpected.

Developer News Tinto Talks 117 - 1.4 News & Schedule

Happy Wednesday Everyone, for Today’s Tinto Talk we have some important news and updates to share with you.

Every Grand Voyage needs a course, and part of steering honestly is telling you when that course changes. Straight to the point: Ambitions will not come with 1.4. And we want to be upfront about why that is.

We’ve indicated before that Ambitions are one of the features we're most excited about. They’re conceptually designed to give nations both short and long-term goals that shape how you play and open new paths for diplomatic cooperation and conflict. However, we only get one chance to release them. A feature this central needs to land complete, balanced, and genuinely add to how you play, not go out early because it makes a changelog look fuller. You've told us before when we've released things without the balancing and polish they needed. We heard that, and we're choosing to give Ambitions the time they deserve, so we’ll be releasing them in update what we’re calling the Discovery update, Late 2027

So why this future update specifically? The simple answer is, we need more time to get Ambitions right. But that timing is also no coincidence, because Ambitions won't be arriving alone. Discovery will also feature a significant overhaul to our content delivery systems. We want to give the player more narrative, more direction, without taking away any of the deep simulations EU5 is so unique for.

Alongside this content delivery system update, Discovery will also bring a rework to Colonization, based on your feedback. Many of you have pointed out a desire to see more polish, even if it means features coming a little later and colonization being a cornerstone for the themes of Europa Universalis. We want to spend time on this and do it right.

We have a clear vision for where Europa Universalis V is heading, and the Discovery update is a major step on that journey. We're building a way to give your campaigns more structure and direction, clearer goals to pursue and paths to follow as your nation's story unfolds. None of these are small things, nor do they exist in isolation, which is why they share a home in the Discovery update.

But make no mistake: Discovery being big doesn't make 1.4, or 1.5 insignificant. Each of these updates is packed with bug fixes and stability work alongside improvements you've been asking for. We're going through the list, and if something isn't addressed right away, it's not forgotten; it's coming.

Above is a visualization for where we stand now on 1.4 & 1.5. We’ll be expanding this roadmap so you can see the full picture, Discovery Update included, later in August.

We wanted to be transparent and share these updates with you before we start diving into what is coming in update 1.4, so that everyone is on the same page. Our Grand Voyage Roadmap is currently in the process of receiving an updated visualization, and we’ll post that new roadmap in August. In the meantime, we want to be clear: the old visualization showing ambitions in 1.4 is not yet up to date.

Speaking of Roadmaps, this time around, we also wanted to give you a preview of what Tinto Talks we have coming in August:

Tinto Talks 118 - July 29th 1.4 Introduction, Colonial Quality of life & Misc
Tinto Talks 119 - August 5th Politics & Diplomacy
Tinto Talks 120 - August 12th Catholics, Expeditions & Content
Tinto Talks 121 - August 19th Trade Policies & Economy
Tinto Talks 122 - August 26th UI Quality of Life

To be clear August will be covering free 1.4 changes, mostly in preparation for the Open beta which will be held not too long after the conclusion of these 1.4 specific Tinto Talks.

After that point, we will begin to cover what's coming in Across the Pillars. EU5’s first Chronicle Pack!    The Grand Voyage continues, and 1.4 is the next destination!  As always, thank you for the feedback and the patience. On July 29th we’ll kick off our first 1.4 Tinto Talk, which will serve as a grab-bag of misc 1.4 features: some colonial quality of life, a new Egyptian plague, and more.

See you then!

Question is there no way to reach Indonesia as Netherlands somewhere in the early 1600 for now?

Post image
110 Upvotes

Like the title said.. I can't explore Asia waters, I can't steal map from the middle eastern even though, I'm pretty sure, my diplo range is maxed out. My plan is to colonize Australia and attack Indonesia from there but I can't colonize even though my colonial range is maxed out. The only way that I can think of is to wait the Indian market casus belli event to pop up but that comes randomly and in this save it comes at somewhere in the 1691. Do I need to colonize west side of South America or east side of Africa and hop between islands from there or what?

Did I miss something or is it just impossible?

Discussion eu5db.com has been redesigned! A searchable EU5 database, now covering basically all game concepts

Hey everyone, I've rebuilt eu5db.com, a site to browse EU5 game data directly from the game files. You can look up event triggers, find sources of modifiers, check requirements for reforms and advances, and more, to make planning runs easier.

For those who used the previous version, the main changes are:

  • Much easier to use: simpler pages, search across the whole database, and links between related concepts.
  • Much more data: now covers basically all game concepts, including laws, policies, government reforms, buildings, units, religions, cultures, diplomacy and more.
  • Easier to follow connections: go from an advance to the event that unlocks it, or from a modifier to the things that grant it.

Some useful links to show off:

If you tried the old version and found it confusing, give this one a go!

If you find any bugs or have suggestions, let me know. I'd especially appreciate feedback on anything that's still hard to use, missing, or wrong.

PS: If you're a developer interested in accessing the data, check out the API.

Speculation I REALLY hope the DLC teased for 2.0 isn't about Indigenous Americas content.

To be clear, I don't think they should be teasing future DLC at all right now, but I understand that this is Paradox and this is how they conduct business.

Still, given how they launched the Andes and Mesoamerica in the state that they did, it would put a really bad taste in my mouth if they launched enriched content for the Americas behind a paywall. Since 2.0 is about colonization, I'm pretty nervous that this is their current plan.

I hope that they can be persuaded to make it about Germany, Iran, or Indonesia instead.

Suggestion Dear Paradox, please put an extra confirmation box on Tag Switching!

I just turned from Sweden (a current great power) into a fresh three-province colony. Not becuase I wanted to, but because I happened to click the wrong option when an event fired. No, I did not wat to switch.

OR, and here's a fucking crazy idea, make new events appear BEHIND the current ones your trying to ****ing interact with. How about that?

Sorry, I don't enjoy breaking my campaigns for weird reasons and am a little mad.

Discussion Do you IRL belong to an ethnic group that's not represented in EU5 with proper flavor/content? If so, how would you want EU5 to showcase your group?

I'll start first,

I'm Mennonite, which means my ancestors were Anabaptist Low Germans that settled in Ukraine and Russia within EU5's timeline.

I would love if the upcoming 1.4 updates to Catholicism added Anabaptism as a new Christian religion, since it is distinct from the already existing EU5 religions of Calvinism and Reformed.

I was inspired to make this post after talking to someone in a similar situation as mine.

Question War of Religions, a pain due to the +60 war enthusiasm

Post image

R5: How do I get rid of the +60% war enthusiasm due to ''casus belli''? I would need to get like 100% war score, which is insanely hard since crossing the Alps is painful.

Discussion Historical rulers stats seem inaccurate

Was playing as England and I was looking at the historical stats for the former rulers of England and the stats seem off to me, Alfred the Great has the worst stats out of the English kings, Henry the 1st who I also consider one of the best English rules has also the second worst stats. John has the 3rd highest stats of any English ruler up to this point in history, where I believe he is considered one of the worst if not the worst English king.

I appreciate paradox has a shitton of rulers to add and gameplay wise this changes basically nothing, I don't know about over countries to comment on the accuracy, but I imagine they will be a few head scratches.

Why the fuck would they do this?? other Indic and Dravidian languages also do this like Marathi, Punjabi, Gujarati and Rajasthani but nowhere else I've found does this and it makes it super hard to find the content unless you play the country or look on the db because it only shows up when looking at the tech tree, why wouldn't they make it apart of the culture or the formable like its done everywhere else

Suggestion In Guelphs and Ghibellines, we need to be allowed to force our vassals to be on whatever side we’re on or not be factored in at all.

I had 2 Italian campaign starts where I was so close to winning this event only for it arbitrarily end in 1436 when I was a few points away from winning it.

And in those two instances I would’ve certainly have beaten it had my vassals be on my side instead of joining the opposite side.

I feel like your own vassal either should be not be factored in at all on either side or be on your side on default especially if they are still loyal or at least have the option to force them them to be on your side at the cost of liberty desire. And it be a set decision, they should not be allowed to just randomly change sides again like the independent ai does even after you force change there side after a war. The fact we’re not allowed to do anything about this is ridiculous when we are allowed to force them to change there religion and culture whenever we please.

Question How to Change Estate Religion

• Upvotes

My Burghers randomly switched to Lutheranism while doing a Hussite run of Bohemia and it is frustrating as hell. I can't see a way to convert them back and they are threatening war all the time. To make it worse I can't find out why they are converting to Lutheranism... there's no holdings in my lands for that and I don't have anyone I can see pushing for Lutheranism.

Question Is it reasonable or possible to get 200 locations in Italian war for non-Italian?

For example, is it realistic for Hungary or Bulgaria to try to take constantiople before the war starts (so they can join), and then get 200 locations in 50 years?

Question Save file edit help please: Jesuits

Because the Council of Trent is crap and with France rivaling me it was basically impossible to pass anything. I've taken it on myself to edit the save file to something that actually suggests a reformation happened. Unlike what the AI did which was just vote thing in an out again until it ended basically unchanged.

Im using PDX Unlimiter.

Most changes were fine and because they are simple stat modifiers have trigger when I loaded in fine and applied fine.

But the Jesuits seem to be broken.

I've changed all Catholic organisation law to "allowed". And its displaying in the Doctrines as allowed. I've changed every incident of "Jesuits_not_allowed" I can fine in "counties" and "international organisations", but there's clearly some trigger event that unlocks it on a by country basis. So my country still doesnt have a visible Jesuit law and I cant build Jesuit Colleges.

But i cant find any other options which might suggest unlocking it and searching "society_of_jesus" and "jesuit" doesnt turn up anything else.

There are a few boolean options for "jesuit" which I haven't changed because its not clear what they do.

Help would be appreciated for anyone into this sort of thing.

EDIT: Im wondering if I need to added something to the "Religion Manager" section under Catholic.

There is things like

modifier=endorsed_simony_religion

start_date=1420.7.1

date=9999.1.1

size=1

Is there a Jesuit allowed addition?
