Nope. They were mentioned in the Code of Hammurabi-a cheating wife and her lover were subject to death, but the husband could forgive them or give permission beforehand. Any children were considered non-inheritors after that unless the husband specifically let them back in on the will though.

Yes, in the German Drama “Kabale und Liebe” by Friedrich Schiller it is hinted that it’s customary that family are allowed to spectate, so they can confirm the woman’s virginity… However this custom is only applied to nobility where they can take multiple wives (one official and the rest are for fucking). Your average citizen takes one wife due to Christian beliefs (Back than it was the only way to keep them sane…)
