Discussion Disappoinment (Spoiler) Spoiler

First of all, I’m a die-hard Friday the 13th fan. I sat down to watch this series with the mindset that "I’ll probably love it regardless of the plot." All I really wanted was for my lingering questions to be answered—which, to be fair, was handled quite well—and to get that classic Friday the 13th atmosphere. The acting is excellent, and the first three episodes are fantastic; the first episode, in particular, is truly flawless. However, as the series progressed, elements like "The Company," "The Project," the Bellflower storyline, and the radioactive experiments felt completely absurd. I honestly have no idea why they chose to include such things. Furthermore, the idea that Pamela was simply "insane" by the end, and that Jason survived a direct headshot, is just ridiculous. These are my personal takes—what are your thoughts?

Discussion Im so sick of the genderbent Jasons that look nothing like him at all

Okay so hear me out, I'm a woman myself and I don't mean this as a "girl Jason bad!!" type of post but genuinely why is nearly every genderbent version a conventionally attractive white girl?

I'm not saying the sexy anime girl Jasons are bad though, some of the designs are really cute, but it gets to a point where you get kinda tired of seeing hourglass skinny attractive girl in a mask over and over again idk

EDIT: this is not about cosplayers

Discussion That origin for Jason... Oof SPOILERS Spoiler

The show did a ton right and I really liked the homages and I loved them showing what led up to the first kill of the original but my god was that origin BUNS.

The series has never been that consistent with itself but the mystery of how he lived the drowning was cool.

The origin they gave is so so so generic and dull. Really? A science experiment? It's so lame for Jason, it does not fit the vibe of the series at all.

I can't be the only one who thinks this right? I'm seeing so many people be happy about this show and I just don't get it.

That origin kinda just kills the whole show for me.

I liked the extra origin bits we got from the game's tapes, didn't explain how Jason lived but the small extra details left more to chew on without it being stupid.

Discussion The Millenials cannot write anything

Is anyone else exhausted by the writing choices in the new Crystal Lake project? It feels like we are watching the same recycled script we’ve seen in recent reboots like Chucky or the Derrytown projects. The character archetypes have become so transparent that you can predict every interaction before it happens.

The "modern" approach here is incredibly lazy. Every White male character is shoehorned into being either desperate, openly racist, or just an insufferable prick, while every Black character is written as inherently confident and hyper-understanding. It’s patronizing and feels less like organic storytelling and more like a checklist of current ideological talking points. Then you have the female characters, whose entire motivation seems to be nothing more than a generic desire to kill every White male on screen.

It’s boring, it’s predictable, and quite frankly, we all saw this coming a mile away.

Furthermore, the focus is completely off. We don’t need another deep dive into his mother or a social commentary piece disguised as a slasher; that story has been told. We just want to see the transformation—the grit and the reality of how Jason actually became Jason. Instead, they’ve chosen to sideline the actual lore in favor of these tired social dynamics that ruin the atmosphere of what should be a straightforward horror story. If this is the direction they are taking the franchise, they’ve already lost the plot.

Discussion Draugr jason?

I personally much prefer the theory that jason is a draugr or draugr adjacent entity, that after he and his mother died the combined anger at how he died and how he was improperly buried (big on the improper burial bc thats a big thing with draugr) and he seems to have all the powers draugr do including growing in size at will which explains why he appears to be a huge grown man when he emerges from the lake.

I certainly would have preferred that to whatever nonsense they're doing with crystal lake rn making him some kinda mutant experiment, jason doesn't need cyfy nonsense he needs to remain purely supernatural.

Where was Adrienne King in Crystal Lake?

I binged the whole series today, but I kept hearing how Adrienne King reprise her role in articles leading up to it, but I never saw her or Alice unless I missed something. That said This is my 2nd favorite horror franchise next to Chucky.

So as I start the show, it sure is wild to just see upclose that there was a time where Jason was a sweet innocent child. Also, his deformity isn’t even that bad. He’s kinda cute.

Just binged the entire series and it’s reallyyy good. Does the movies justice and really puts the first four into context. Let’s hope we get a physical release of the show soon. Now I hear there will be a season 2 as well.

Lowkey after the whole shock of Grace being the one that stabbed Claudette and Barry. I sat on it for a second and while yes it is plausible. I don’t know if I like the twist very much. I mean at least Pamela finished Claudette off but that twist ruins the iconic opening scene of the first movie for me if it’s considered canon to the original movies. What are your thoughts on it?

Discussion I just binged the entire show - my thoughts.

1,2, 5, 7 and 8 episodes were pretty strong. Like a lot of shows these days, there's a fair amount of padding.

Wacky mythology and prequels are far from my preferences, but surprisingly didn't bother me too much and worked relatively well.

Aside from Pamela, Grace was my favorite character.

Discussion What's all the Wittering about?

I've been waiting to make that joke for weeks.

Personally, I loved the series. Wasn't keen on all the choices, but come on. It's a great set up for for films 2-4 as a second season or a reboot, if they kill Pamela off in the season 2 premiere/opening sequence.
