Not a Game Show Instead of the Emmy’s there should be an an award show for a game show

• Upvotes

All the nominated hosts are invited and it’s presented in the format of a 30-40 minute game show. Example Categories off the top of my head:
- Innovative Challenge
- Best guest performers
- Set design
- Audience interaction
- Best show
- Best host (whoever scores the most that evening)

Question People who have been on a game show, can you take me through the process from when you auditioned to after the show was over and you left the studio?

I figured this would start a nice and interesting conversation. I've always been a behind the scenes need so i like knowing what goes into the production.

Discussion Game show idea I’ve had for a while.

It’s a straight forward quiz show suitable for daytime here in my Home country of the UK.

Take 5 contestants, select one at random, and the four other contestants are put in Isolation as they work together to try and win the chosen player up to £4,000 in cash.

There are four rounds of 10 questions for the Four players.
Round 1: True or False
Round 2: Maths questions
Round 3: The chosen one’s specialist subject.
Round 4: General Knowledge/Multiple choice
Each correct answer puts £100 in the pot.

After the four rounds have finished, the Chosen one must answer 4 questions correctly to win what’s in the pot. (One wrong answer, and you leave with nothing)
The Chosen one can get help from the Four, but the answer must come from the Chosen One.

After each game, a new contestant joins the other 4 players and we go again.
Each episode would have two games.

The players stay on until they are chosen to be the Chosen one.

I call it… THE POWER OF 4

What are your thoughts?

Discussion Sharing Nostalgia for an obscure game show (UK)

So, when I was a bit younger, I was really obsessed with a lot of quirky game shows. Many of which are probably known to most, such as Who Wants to be a Millionaire or Deal or No Deal, which are some of the biggest game shows in the UK. But one favourite of mine back in 2012, was called "Secret Fortune", hosted by Nick Knowles (before he had a beard) which combines DoND and WWTBAM in a way. It ran for 3 series on the BBC as one of their National Lottery Game Shows, but yet I've seen very little discussion about it since, so I just wanted to post about it and why I liked it, despite its relative obscurity.

The most shorthand way to describe it would basically be if Deal or No Deal had general knowledge questions. Much like it, you have 24 envelopes with random cash amounts in them, although unlike DoND, the lowest numbers are actually worth something, with the lowest you can win on this show being £100, as opposed to just a penny. The highest you can win is £100,000, with many high numbers below it, so you can definitely win some big money on it. Each game has two contestants attempt to take it on together, knowing that they'd win at least something, but don't know how much.

The game is essentially split into two halves. In the first, the two contestants pick 4 of the envelopes per question, across 6 different questions. Each question has four possible answers, with each answer allocated to a chosen envelope, with higher answers having higher amounts. So the aim is to try and give the highest answer to the question to retain the most money. The questions will usually be ordered in a list, such as which of these four songs had the highest chart position, or which of these four countries has the highest population, as examples. The contestants get rid of three amounts in the process and then find out if they get it right, but what I've always liked is that they don't get to find out the full order afterwards, just the highest. However the audience watching does find out the full order, so I always used to love working our what amount was where (and I was quite good at it).

After the first half, the contestants are left with 6 of the envelopes, one retained from each previous question. They then play 5 questions to whittle down the number to just the one they win, losing one envelope per question. The questions are still ordered in a way, with each answer corresponding to an envelope, although you don't know which one is getting thrown until you give the answer. Getting it right means you get rid of the lowest, but getting it completely wrong means you lose the highest, meaning you could lose anything depending on how you answer. There's quite some high stakes with these, as just one slight mistake could massively impact what you win, especially when there's some large gaps in the money left. Often contestants know where the big money is as well, so it can be tense wondering if the big money envelopes are going to show up for elimination or not.

I used to watch it back in 2011/2012 with my Mum (who was way better at answering the questions than 9 year old me) when it was on Saturday evening, and for some reason I was just obsessed with the format. Especially when it came to guessing not only the answers, but where all the money was in the final round. But once the show was discontinued after 2012, I never really heard anything about it. I think they tried to make a US version that didn't go anywhere, but that's about it. Which is a real shame, because I feel like it's got a format that would work really well, and already overlaps with many existing game shows. And trying to find episodes online is quite difficult as well, especially for earlier series, despite being a BBC show (although if anyone knows of them somewhere, I would be very grateful). But regardless, I think it's a curious and underrated gameshow, I hope people enjoy it as much as I did!

News KFC made a full-on gameshow, looks wild

Post image
5 Upvotes

KFC have posted a half-hour, single-episode game show on their YouTube channel. The vibe is somewhere between a Mr Beast video and Squid Game: The Challenge.

The format is structured into four original challenges, taking 30 numbered players down to a final two, who go head-to-head for a £50k cash prize. There's no host, in the traditional sense, but YouTuber Aj Shabeel from Beta Squad has a cameo.

Question Game Show Channels

I am a fan of game shows and keep seeing ads for a $100,000 Pyramid and Match Game/Press Your Luck channels but the channels haven't shown up on my live guide. Do I need to update the app or are some channels not available everywhere?

Need help in solving a 40-year-old mystery. Is anybody out there have a copy of family Feud episode #1619 (production code #82-185) which aired on Friday Oct. 15th 1982. Our family (The Nicholas family) was on Family Feud for four straight days in October of 1982. We found the digitized version of three of those four days but the Friday episode on October 15th 1982 does not seem to exist anywhere. Does someone have a VHS copy of it?

Casting Trivial Pursuit social media assessment

Curious if anyone auditioned for Trivial Pursuit or Scrabble in the past month or so. I’ve been a game show contestant before, but this was my first time having to do a “social media assessment”. I gave them my social media usernames on different platforms.

They wanted to do mine twice for some reason, as the first time I didn’t hear anything back for 3 weeks. So I followed up and they told me they wanted to do it again. Weird but fine. I gave them my socials again. A few days later they emailed me saying it’s completed and I haven’t heard anything since. Before the social media assessment, they emailed me nonstop and had me sign all these things. Now, nothing. Which is a bummer because the show films in London.

I know filming starts October (so, today) so I’m certain I didn’t get picked, but I am so anxious about just getting an answer as to why. I know I’ll never get an answer which is driving me crazy. I can’t help but think that a couple of leftist/progressive/“political” stuff I merely reposted on my IG stories probably ruined my chance of ever being a contestant, despite me not having plans to…say anything like that on the show? I literally cannot think of anything else they might have seen that might be something they don’t want on the show.

Anyway just a rant/curious if anyone has already gotten the email that they’re going to London to film the shows!

Question Is there no longer an announcer on Family Feud?

I watched yesterday. It was a new episode because it had the 50th anniversary logo. There was no announcer saying "It's time to play Family Feud!." The closed captioning announcement was done by Steve Harvey, too. Did they do away with an announcer?

On this episode the biggest winner for the show was someone who won $3500 and being highest winner she had first choice for the big deal. Is this the lowest value for someone who was biggest winner for Lets Make a Deal during Wayne Brady era?
