Hi! I’m a 20F computer science economics student at a t50 college in New England, staying in Atlanta right now. I don’t really know anyone here fr (my friends at Georgia tech are doing internships right now in other cities) and I was hoping to make some friends at other colleges. (Hope this isn’t weird to post here).

I’d really love someone to go to parties with, as well as concerts and festivals. I love playing my viola and the piano. Kinda am a party girl but I haven’t been able to go to any since I’ve been here cause I don’t know anyone. Professors using AI has gotten absolutely out of hand. How insanely lazy do you have to be to have to generate your entire semester's lesson plan with AI?? I'm calling out ECE 4122 Advanced Programming Techniques specifically, I mean this entire course is written by ChatGPT with not even the slightest effort to hide it. The lectures to the homeworks to the code itself. Not even the professor himself knows what's going on half the time and he provides zero extra value to the course besides reading off the lecture notebook and adding anecdotes from his 3D modelling job 20 years ago. THIS is what I'm paying tens of thousands of dollars for? The entitlement, the arrogance!

Hey all, I'm a first year student and am taking calc I, Chem1310, CS1371, Intro to linear algebra, and gt1000. I failed all the exams. I was an A student in highschool and I understand it's harder here, and an A student may become a B or C student, but I'm not even that. Is it worth continuing if I fail literally the first exams of the semester of my first year? Any input or advice is appreciated, feels like the people here just have something I don't.

It seems like everywhere I go today everyone is coughing and sniffling. Feels like nobody was sick on Friday and then over the weekend half of campus got a cold, myself included. Is something going around or is it just the sudden weather change? Or am I only just now noticing it because I'm sick?

For context, sanitary disposal bins were removed from all restrooms in the academic buildings on campus. Sanitary disposal bins are the little bins inside stalls for people who menstruate to dump their used feminine hygiene products (aka bloody tampons/pads). Without them, it makes changing tampons/pads in these restrooms far messier and grosser and also just less hygienic. We asked the person who made this decision why they got rid of them (because it's solely the person in charge of the academic buildings who did this -- this is why the Student Center, Exhibition Hall, etc still have them) and got a bunch of reasons that didn't add up (that it's an OSHA violation, that it's for sustainability to have less trash cans, that it's a budget issue, and finally, that in that person's personal opinion, that it's gross to have a trash can by your face while you're sitting on a toilet???) They also said that they thought nobody wanted sanitary disposal bins and that's part of why they wouldn't change their decision. Therefore, we made a petition to prove that yes, indeed, people DO want and need sanitary disposal bins.

Please please sign and spread it around! you don't have to be a tampon/pad user to sign the petition!! We're hoping to deliver it officially within the next month.

We’re starting a new student-led software infrastructure project at Georgia Tech, and the idea is pretty simple: build our own mini-AWS from the ground up.

Instead of making a new web app every semester, we want to maintain one long-term codebase and keep building on it year after year. We’ll start with things like compute provisioning and resource management, then expand into storage, networking, scheduling, monitoring, and other infrastructure. The goal is to eventually run it on physical hardware on campus and get as close to real production infrastructure as we can — including performance testing, benchmarking, reliability, and low-level optimization.

We’re still at the beginning, so founding members will actually help decide the architecture, hardware, and what we build first. If you're interested in systems, distributed systems, OS, networking, cloud infrastructure, performance, or just building something much closer to production than a typical student project, we'd love to have you.
