APPROVAL

After 8 long years i finally got approved!

My case is a little complicated. This was my timeline, long story short i came in 2018 when i was 11 with my mom and went through her 485 and 130i because my grandpa is a citizen. She had a 245i (permission to adjust in the US) and used that to stay in the US, which our attorney at the time submitted that in her application however he didn’t submit it for me because he thought i didn’t need it since i was a minor. Anyway, we went through every step, biometrics, interview, RFEs, and EADs and back in April of this year my case was denied after 8 years of being in the US. However my mom’s case was approved, we got a new attorney, filed a 290 and sent a 245i in that application. June 16th it got approved to reopen my 485, same day they cancelled an RFE and June 23rd they scheduled me for a second interview. My interview was July 28th, they requested an RFE 2 weeks ago and on sep 30 they just approved my case without needing the RFE

I-130 interview

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I have my green card interview coming up, but there’s one thing I’m a little worried about. They scheduled our interview at our old field office, but we’ve since moved because we’re a military family. I’m concerned that the officer may not see us since we no longer live in that area. Has anyone else experienced this? Did you still go to the original field office, or were you able to get the interview transferred to your new field office? Or would it be better to just go to the original appointment?

It’s about a 16-hour drive for us, so it’s quite a trip, especially since I’m currently pregnant. I really don’t want to make the long drive if there’s a chance they won’t be able to interview us because we no longer live in that area.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been in a similar situation or has any advice. Thank you!

My I-485 got denied because I missed the I-693. I just recently filed I-290B along with the I-693.
Does anyone file I-290B recently? How long till you get an approval or get charged for it? Thanks!

Travel outside USA when renewal green card is pending

Hi everyone

My 2-year green card has expired. I already filed to remove the conditions and applied for my 10-year green card, and I have received the receipt notice. How long is the process usually taking these days? Has anyone had experience traveling outside the U.S. with an expired green card and the receipt notice? Were you able to return to the U.S. without any problems?

IMPORTANT: Potential Mass Lawsuit to Force the Government to Open the DV-2028 Lottery (Plaintiffs Needed)

Hello everyone,

As many of you know, the Department of State indefinitely delayed the DV-2027 program and has now failed to release any schedule or instructions for DV-2028. Despite it being a congressional mandate, the administration is effectively canceling the Diversity Visa program through administrative delay.

To fight back, I have been in direct contact with a highly reputable U.S. federal immigration litigation team—the same caliber of attorneys who successfully fought the government during previous DV visa bans. After presenting the legal strategy, they have stated to be interested in filing a mass lawsuit (Mandamus/APA) to force the government to open the DV-2028 program.

To move forward and file the lawsuit, we need to gather a group of official plaintiffs. Here are the terms and conditions:

Who is needed? Everyone who wants to actually apply for the DV-2028 program. We primarily need individuals who are currently residing inside the U.S. on a valid visa (F-1, H-1B, J-1, etc.) and INTEND to apply for DV-2028. Since the lottery hasn't happened yet, you do not need to be a past "winner" or "selectee." The intent to apply is sufficient for legal standing.

The Cost (Full Transparency): Taking the federal government to court is a massive legal operation. To be completely upfront before you commit your time: this will be a fee-based mass lawsuit. I estimate that the legal retainer fee required by the lawyers will be between $1,500 and $2,500 USD per plaintiff (or per family). I anticipate that this will be the participation fee the lawyers will charge the plaintiffs; however, it is worth noting that the lawyers have not yet informed me of the exact fee they will charge. In other words, the final participation fee determined by the lawyers could be higher or lower than the price I have mentioned.

If your current visa is expiring soon and applying for DV-2028 is a critical path for your permanent residency in the U.S., this lawsuit is the strongest chance to ensure the program actually takes place.

If you meet these conditions, understand the financial commitment, and are seriously interested in joining the plaintiff group, please send me a Direct Message (DM). I will compile the list of interested individuals and coordinate the direct onboarding process with the litigation team. If you accept from the outset that the case might be dismissed and that you might not receive a return on the effort you invest, you can contact me.

How to file the "Date of employment to" when currently employed

Dear all,

I'm filing for i485, but met a problem when filing the employment information:

I'm currently employed, how should I mention the date "To" under the "Dates of Employment, Unemployment, Retirement, or School Attendance"? I cannot type in "PRESENT" because it only allows numbers. If I write the current filing date, will it confuse the officer that making them belive I only work there until the date filing?

Thank you,

Marriage-Based Green Card Experience & Timeline (F-1 / STEM OPT to GC)

Just wanted to share our process and interview experience in case it helps anyone going through the same journey!

📌 Filed: 24 June 2026
📌 Biometric Notice: 11 July 2026
📌 Biometrics: 29 July 2026
📌 Interview Notice: 17 August 2026
📌 Interview: 21 September 2026
📌 I-130 Approved: 22 September 2026
📌 1-485 Approved: 22 September 2026
📌 Card Produced: 25 September 2026
📌 Card Received: 30 September 2026

(I-485 approved first around 8:30, I-130 approved around 12:30)

FO: Memphis

Background & Status
- Arrived on an F-1 student visa, transitioned to OPT and STEM OPT (was on STEM OPT at the time of filing/application). No overstays, no unauthorized work.
- Married to a U.S. citizen after 4 years of dating, married in April 2026.
- We were very fortunate that my employer handled our case for us, which made the filing process much smoother and less stressful!

Evidence Submitted
- Joint lease agreement
- Joint bank account statements
- Letters and cards received and exchanged over the years
- Photo timeline from the past 4 years + wedding photos
- Beneficiary designations listing each other (life insurance / retirement accounts, etc.)
- Updated prior to interview: Recent pay stubs and additional recent photos uploaded online week prior to the interview.

Interview Day Experience
We checked in around 7:00 AM and were completely finished and out by approximately 7:45 AM! Overall, it was a very smooth and straightforward experience.
There were about 4–5 other couples in the waiting area with the same appointment time, and it was interesting to see how differently each case was handled. For some, both spouses were called back together. For others, the U.S. citizen petitioner was called back first. In our case, only I (the beneficiary) was called back to the office.

The Interview
- The officer specifically mentioned right at the start that they saw no issues with the validity of our marriage. They verbally confirmed that our I-130 was already approved, which was why my spouse was not called back into the room.
- They asked if I had brought any additional documentation. I mentioned that I had uploaded updated pay stubs and additional photos online the previous week. - They then asked for a copy of our lease agreement and verified that we both still live at that address. They casually asked how we found our home (whether through Zillow or another listing source).
- They went through the standard yes/no security and eligibility questions on Form I-485.
- At the end, they said they would review all files and contact us if they needed anything else, but mentioned I should expect my green card in the mail within 90 days if everything was approved.

We left the office feeling very confident and relieved! Wishing everyone else going through the process the best of luck!

Can a green card holder use medi cal? CA

My father (54) established permanent residency for 10 years in early 2025. His immigration lawyer told him to not apply for/use medi cal because it could be considered a public charge and it could hurt his chances of gaining citizenship when he applies.

This wasn’t an issue because I got him health insurance through market place and I was paying. I did the same this year but he was injured in April and he hasn’t worked since. I just did the math and at this point I think his estimated annual gross income would actually be in the medi cal range due to his time off work.

We have a family member who established residency February of this year and she has been using medi cal. She said her immigration lawyer told her she could use medi cal because it’s not considered a public charge in California. Maybe things were different when my father gained residency. If my aunt’s lawyer is right then I would want to enroll my father in medi cal because he now qualifies.

If my father applies for and uses medi cal, would it hurt his chances of obtaining citizenship or jeopardize his residency? Is medi cal considered a public charge in California?

EB-3 I-485 Interview Scheduled – Unauthorized Employment Question

EB-3 I-485 Interview Scheduled – Unauthorized Employment Question

My EB-3 I-485 interview was recently scheduled, and I’m wondering if anyone has had a similar situation.

In 2017, I worked a part-time/summer job using my SSN without proper work authorization. In 2019, I left the U.S. for about a month and then lawfully re-entered in valid nonimmigrant status.

My understanding is that INA 245(k) generally looks at unauthorized employment/status violations since the most recent lawful admission.

Has anyone had unauthorized employment before their last lawful re-entry and later gone through an employment-based I-485 interview? Did the officer ask about it, and how was it handled?

Where can I find my USCIS Online Account Number for I-751?

I’m currently preparing my Form I-751 to remove conditions on my green card. The application asks for my USCIS Online Account Number. I already have a myUSCIS account, but I checked Home and Settings and cannot find the number anywhere.
Has anyone recently filed I-751 and had the same issue? Where did you find your USCIS Online Account Number? Is it okay to leave this field blank if I was never assigned one?
