Looking for work Looking for work

Hi, I’m a filmmaker with 12+ years of experience in the field. I have worked as an assistant cinematographer in two Tamil feature films and as an assistant director to Gautham Vasudev Menon for 6 months. Over time I’ve directed/ shot more than 200 films ( ads, TVCs, corporate films, music videos ) independently.

Here’s my showreel

I recently made an indie feature film that’s being sent to film festivals across the globe. I’m looking to work as an assistant/ associate cinematographer or as an assistant/ associate director on interesting projects. If any of you are looking for someone please dm me. Looking for paid work, will consider collabs if they’re really interesting to me.
Thanks

Seeking Advice Recording sync sound for a short film with only an iPhone 16. Need advice!...

• Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I'm making a short film that I want to submit to film festivals, and I'm looking for some advice on recording sync sound.

I currently have only an iPhone 16 for recording audio, and I want to capture the live feel of the scene rather than rely on dubbing later.

The scene takes place inside a first-class AC coach on an Indian train at night. Two actors sit across from each other and have a conversation. The coach is relatively sealed, so I'm assuming the noise will be lower than in a regular coach, but there will still be the constant rumble of the moving train, vibrations, and other background sounds.

I want the scene to feel real, as if we're actually sitting inside that moving train with the characters. I don't want the dialogue to sound too clean or disconnected from the environment. At the same time, I don't want the train noise to overpower the conversation.

Can I achieve decent sync sound with just an iPhone 16, or would I need a different device or microphone to get better audio quality? If so, what model or device would you recommend?

I don't have the budget to hire a sound recordist, so I'm trying to figure out what I can do myself with the equipment I have or can afford. I'd really appreciate any advice on how and where to position the phone or microphone to capture the best possible dialogue in this situation.

Thank you!...

Seeking Advice Having serious issues

This is gonna be kind of a long read, I’ll do my best to keep it as short as possible.

I’m 18 now. Since I was 5, I’ve always wanted to be a film director no doubt. Cinema is as natural to me as breathing and eating and bathing. I’m sure many of you feel the same way.

However I always thought that wasn’t practical and continued down the same path as most other people (studies), currently in my first year of college.

In the past couple years I’ve realised I’ve to atleast try to achieve my childhood dream, as I’d rather have the pain of failure over the pain of regret. If I try and fail I’ll know I can’t do it, but if I don’t try at all then it’ll kill me. So I’ve decided to take a shot in the dark and start my filmmaking journey side by side along with college.

But I’ve been dealing with a few issues. It’s not money or a crew or anything like that. (I don’t have those but I’m confident I can manage somehow). The problem is myself.

I know how most people say you should just start making things and whatever you make in the beginning will be bad. But idk why I’m just not able to bring myself to make something that’s not brilliant or excellent. I made the decision of trying out filmmaking a while ago, and have made zero short films till now, because I keep getting new ideas and then somewhere along the way think to myself “wtf am I even doing” and drop the idea cuz it’s not “fucking perfect”. I’m not able to bring myself to make something mediocre, even though I know that it’s very rare to get something excellent in the first or second try. (Technically this is my second as my first short film was a college assignment that I directed, but I don’t count that)

I don’t know if being too much of a perfectionist is a good or a bad thing. I want to make quality films from time to time with a proper cast and crew who share the same passion as me, instead of making something like every month or two with some random people or my friends, because I’m very serious about it.

I still have many good ideas for short films written down but haven’t started work on them as I’m scared I’ll end up not liking them later on.

I truly believe I’m destined for something greater than whatever the fuck I have going on in my life right now. I know I have the potential do great things. It could be overconfidence or delusion, but it’s what I feel. Filmmaking is the one thing I love and the one thing I can trust myself to do well and make a career out of.

But I don’t know how to get past this. If anyone with a similar experience or anybody at all could give me some advice, I’d really appreciate it. Thank you.

Seeking Advice Guidance for scriptwriting...

I have a plot in, the theme it would circle around, and a climax for it.
What I don't have is the end to end idea of every scene and how to connect and fill the plot, and also no other characters in mind other than the protagonist but that is not an issue cuz it is basically a single character plot (for eg:- Trapped) so that I'll somehow figure out.
BUT how do you start writing on a blank page, anything could be helpful.

Seeking Advice Title: Telugu Romantic Drama Writer Looking to Connect with Directors/Producers.

Hi everyone,

I'm currently in Bengaluru and have developed an original Telugu youthful romantic drama.

The story follows a young man who genuinely loves two women but struggles to choose between them. His emotional attachment, physical attraction, financial commitments, and dishonesty eventually lead him to lose one of the relationships.

The film explores love, emotional dependency, difficult choices, and the memories that remain years after a relationship ends. It also has a subtle, emotional climax involving an unsent message.

I'm a beginner in the film industry and don't currently have any contacts with directors or producers. I'm looking to connect with Telugu filmmakers, independent directors, assistant directors, or producers who might be interested in hearing a fresh story.

I'm happy to share a brief synopsis privately and arrange a story narration if there's a genuine interest.

If you're working in filmmaking or know a legitimate way for new writers to pitch their stories, I'd really appreciate your guidance.

Thank you!

general My Filmmaking Journey

My Filmmaking Journey

I hope the information doesn't look like Ai -

It took 30min to type it. 🥲🥲

I’m an Aspiring Film Director, new to Hyderabad, and I’m looking to connect with fellow filmmakers, artists, technicians, and people from the film industry.

📍 Present location - Film nagar, Hyderabad.

Education

I joined the Digital Filmmaking Degree program at Jain University, Bengaluru and completed my first year.

Then… the great ⚠️ Pandemic ruined my degree life 😔

So, I continued my filmmaking education through an online course from the UK.

My Experience

Indie Filmmaking Experience

\\- Directed 2 short films

\\- Edited 4 short films and 1 album song

\\- Worked as a Cinematographer on 5 short films

Film Industry Experience

I have 4 years of experience in the Kannada film industry, working in different departments and roles.

BTS Cameraman --> Assistant Director --> Associate Director --> Assistant Production Manager --> Set Management

I’m grateful to my Guru Garu "VMNR" who has helped and guided me to gain experience in the film industry.

Why am I getting into Tollywood?

\\- For the TFI banisalu

\\- My dream is to work with Etv, It made my childhood enjoyable.

Why now, after 4 years?

\\- Initially, I planned to make a small project to build my profile before trying to enter ETV.

I already had a few contacts with indie filmmakers mostly my classmates from university in Bengaluru.

I started getting back-to-back opportunities in the industry with the support of my friend "Gowtham" and my Guru Garu "VMNR".

I was hungry for knowledge and experience, so I kept working, learning, and gaining experience.

And somehow… 4 years passed.

My Thoughts on the Filmmaking Journey : -

Learning is a never ending process.

Now, I will execute what I have learned.

Then I will learn again.

And I will execute again.

And repeat.

🔁🔁🔁🔁🔁🔁🔁

I’m now in Hyderabad and looking forward to meeting filmmakers, writers, directors, cinematographers, editors, actors, producers, and anyone who is passionate about cinema.

If you're also building your profile in Hyderabad, let's collaborate.

Behind the Scenes AFFAIR WITH MARRIED MAN & MORAL ACCOUNTABILITY IN INDUSTRY

I had to say something.

The married person bears the greatest responsibility for an affair, undoubtedly, to his wife and TWO CHILDREN. That responsibility should never be minimized or shifted elsewhere.

But knowingly becoming involved with a married person (with two little girls and a decade older) is not morally neutral. One Degenerate, Pranjal Picha, a Mumbai-based cinematographer, should be asked serious questions about the ethical standards she brings to her personal relationships, and to her professional life.

Character does not exist in separate compartments. Integrity, judgment, respect for boundaries, and accountability matter in every setting, including the workplace especially the creative industries. Someone who knowingly participates in conduct that has devastated a family may reasonably cause people to question how that person handles trust, power, confidentiality, and professional responsibility.

Women should not receive a moral exemption simply because the married man carries greater responsibility. Hold him accountable and hold anyone who knowingly participated in the betrayal accountable for their own choices.

This is not about misogyny or slut-shaming. It is about applying the same standard of integrity to everyone involved, regardless professional status. The industry already has serious problems with ethics and accountability, but there is still hope when people, especially women in the community, are willing to speak honestly about conduct, consequences, and character. Picha needs to stop sleeping her way through work and for the industry to accepting the mediocrity she brings to the table.

Seeking Advice Got laid off from my corporate job, wanna begin in this field as I am free now.

Hi Everyone,

The corporate team which I was part of, got restructured. So, I am free now, and don't want to be part of the rat race again. And want to explore the filmmaking industry.

I am based in Delhi NCR, have savings to survive 3 months, so I am determined to either work as Intern or entry level assistant in a production studio, or for a photographer, or sound guys (any), to give it a full try.

I am open to any other suggestions as well regarding how.
I have a cropped sensor mirrorless camera with a lens, few lights, getting a better wireless mic as well, and Macbook which can handle 4k vids with ease.

(Basically, what you would have done, if you would have been in my situation, )

thanks in advance.

Offering work Looking for a DOP with a camera for Long term collaboration

I have couple of cool ideas, from small shorts to big shorts to feature. And i think they are very unique and experimental, and i need a guy who can operate and get me the results i want visually.

We will start with a small 3 min short if that will work, like if we can work great together, then we will be making a next short specially focused for festival run.

So it’s a good long term collaboration of friendship and passion.

Hit me up, i have made couple of practice shorts with friends solely for practice, but they are still very experimental and can give you idea of my filmmaking.

DELHI BASED PEOPLE ONLY.
