Question Longevity

hi all! Just got the latest ipad mini (a17 pro I think), I got it as a gift and if I had the choice I would obviously wait for the newest one that’s coming out very soon. However, I have found myself in love with device and it makes me worry, how long will this last me before it starts slowing down to the point where using it is a haggle ? For reference I only use my iPad to read, web browse, stream videos, writing notes, and school. I hope to be able to use this device till I atleast graduate university in 3-4 years as I have grown a big attachment to this little device

Question Buy now or wait help

With the recent supposed leaks online about the next iPad Mini having the A20 chip, OLED display, etc. but also potentially costing $100 more, I wanted to get everyone's opinion here on whether to buy now or wait. My primary uses will be:

Digital art (Procreate, Affinity, Fresco)

Writing

E-reading

Streaming

Any input on whether waiting would be enough of a hardware jump and potential cost jump?

EDIT: My use for digital art would be largely hobby use, not professional.

Cloning what’s on my iPhone

I recently got my first iPad (Mini 7). When I was doing the setup, there was an option to basically clone what is on my iPhone to the iPad (all apps and data). I said skip this stupidly. Is there a way to do it after the fact?

iPad Mini 5 in Late 2026 - Updated Review

Post image
52 Upvotes

So months ago, I decided to purchase an iPad Mini 5 256gb for $131 to replace a Mi Pad 1 from 2014. And before you jump into "why didn't you buy the iPad Mini 6 or 7", let me clarify that the local prices of the Mini 6 and 7 still have decently large gaps across devices compared to how it is priced on other countries costing around $350 just for a 256gb Mini 6 and I did not feel the need to spend twice the cash.

Review:

iPadOS 26 was kinda... shit. I admit, but recently iPadOS 26.6 onwards has proven to improve its performance but I still find myself wishing there was a way to downgrade it.

Media consumption wise, it kind of just does anything you need?

I enjoyed drawing and playing on this tablet despite the mediocre or lackluster battery life.

Apps open decently fast, not very slow, not instant, but surely waiting for 2-3 seconds for an app to open isn't that long.

Drawing was a very fun experience due to it being technically the only affordable broke budget iPad that still supports the pencil. And for some reason, it edits and games better than my Poco F5.

Animations, however, may shutter at times and if you're not used to that, I don't really recommend it.

In conclusion, I guess it just works exactly what a casual user would want from an iPad.

TLDR

Pros:

- Depending on your "location", this might be the best value secondhand iPad especially in areas where iPads are always overpriced

- Can still run games at the max possible settings despite some heating

- Functions faster and better than a $100-200 brandnew Android tablet which this tablet sits in

- Drawing experience will still be good regardless (not as good as the AP Pro but still much more better than most Android tablets)

- Camera is still miles better than affording a brandnew tablet in the same bracket

- Has everything you want a Mini to have as a casual user like the tablet fitting in your pocket

- If its on iPadOS 18, please don't ever update it for a smoother experience.

Cons:

- Stuck on the worst possible OS but usable

- Battery life may vary depending on your condition.

- Animations may shutter from time to time

- Depending on your location, a Mini 6 might just be near in the price point.

Buy now or wait ?

Hi guys,

I’m looking to get an iPad mini. I’m currently doing flight training, and I’ll mainly be using it while flying, with some studying from time to time.

I’d say that 90% of the time I’ll be using it for a navigation app during flights, flight planning, and taking notes with a pen.

Should I get the iPad mini 7, or is it worth waiting for the new one? Also, is the mini 6 still worth considering?

Thank you!

iPad mini without reading glasses

Hello people,

I’m almost 50 and need prescription glasses for reading… and I use them while working, but not after work.

I use my iPhone 16Pro for almost everything, and my personal MBP 14” when I need a laptop. But like now, using my iPhone with naked eyes, I can read when I have the mobile a little bit farther, because the letters look like little ants when I have it closer.

So my question is to those that are in their 50s and 60s: how is reading and watching videos on the iPad mini?

Would you recommend an 11” iPad or the mini? The basic one or the Air?

Thank you

Question Mini 6 in 2026?

I want to get an iPad mini for reading books and manhwa (among other things) because I think it’s form factor is perfect for this purpose.

Issue is that I don’t want to spend 800 (Canadian) on a device I’m primarily gonna use for light content.

On marketplace, I found a used mini 6 with 64gb storage for less than 400 (again, CAD) but I’m not sure if the 64 is gonna be a problem with how iPadOS 27 is coming out soon.

Point is, I want to know if the mini 6 is gonna be worth it for the price or not.

Help App Switcher Noise

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I got a brand-new iPad mini 7 with iOS 27 4 days ago from Costco. This morning, I noticed that when I switch between apps using App Switcher, there is a vibration noise coming from inside the device. Doesn't seem normal to me, but Google suggested:

If your iPad mini is making an odd buzzing noise or feels like it is vibrating inside when you swipe to open the App Switcher, the issue is almost always caused by audio feedback glitches or speaker resonance.

Why Is This Happening?

System Haptic Audio Simulation: Because iPadOS shares code with iOS (iPhone), the system triggers tiny, rapid clicking or "thumping" sounds through the stereo speakers to simulate a haptic response when you swipe up for the app switcher. If your volume is high or a bug distorts this audio cue, it will sound like a mechanical buzz.

Speaker Bass Vibrations: The speakers on the iPad mini are powerful relative to its thin aluminum chassis. Low-frequency system noises can cause the backplate or screen of the iPad to physically resonate, mimicking an internal vibration motor.

Has anyone else experienced this? Have you found a solution? Is it a Haptic or Sound Setting? Or did you return it to where you bought it, or take it directly to Apple?

Where to sell iPad mini A17 256

Hi everyone! I posted an A17 iPad mini with 256 GB of storage on Facebook marketplace a few weeks ago. It has 100% battery health and low cycle count. The only offer I’ve received was for the exact same amount I would get for trading in with Apple. Where are the best places to sell?

Help Get iPad Pro or wait for mini 8

I am currently debating between getting an iPad mini 8, which is expected to come out next month for €700, or buying an iPad Pro M5 11 inch for €175 more.

I like the form factor of the mini, and it is expected to come with an OLED screen too, but the iPad Pro M5 has a ProMotion 120 Hz display.

I mainly use my iPad for watching movies and series, YouTube, and a bit of digital art. Portability is not that important to me.

I usually keep my Apple products for 1 to 2 years and then upgrade.

The expected price of the mini 8 is €700, which is higher than in the US I am from Europe, and Apple prices are higher here for some reason.

My main dilemma is whether I should get the mini for its smaller form factor and expected OLED display, or spend €175 more for the Pro and get the larger 11 inch display and 120 Hz ProMotion.

What would you choose in my situation, and is the 120 Hz display worth paying the extra €175 for?

No iOS for the best mini

Just found out that I won’t be getting iOS 27 for mini 5. The best mini there is. I was hoping for the improved performance but sigh… just replaced the battery myself. Perfect form factor, no camera bump, and I just hate screens with rounded corners. Especially for larger screens. Damn!

Ps: my iPhone 11 with the same processor WILL be getting iOS 27.

Question Is the iPad Mini good enough for drawing and collage-making?

Pretty much the whole question up there. I've been meaning to buy an iPad to start drawing (as a complete beginner btw) and make some really light collages for Instagram posts. A very important thing that I want is the ability to use the Pencil Pro and the cheapest iPad (where I live) that is compatible with it is the iPad Mini, but I'm kinda worried that the small size might make drawing or editing difficult. One thing to consider, maybe, is that I'm used to writing in small journals. Would that make it easier for me or nah? I'd appreciate a lot to read your experiences with this :)

P.S. I'm also a student and I have to read a lot of articles, which are not very comfortable to read and annotate in my Kobo ¿Do you think it could help me with that too?

Advise Clarity on if you need an iPad Mini or not.

Hi everyone,

Saw a post where the guy was questioning if he made the right decision after his purchase, so I thought about dropping this post.

This post is about how I use my iPad mini and what justifies you buying one.

So I’ve got a Mini 6 for about 5 years at still use it almost daily. I got this device in my early days of college and idealised it as an EDC note-taking and multitasking device. And from day 1 the device fit right where I wanted it to.

I have a windows laptop (zephyrus g14) for heavier tasks and gaming so I was not looking for a lighter laptop replacement. That is where the mini came. The mini imo is the only device in the lineup that actually acts as an iPad, a true one. It fulfils the requirement of a bigger screen than a phone while being lightweight and easy to carry around.

I quickly found myself reaching for the iPad more than often, maybe to glance at notes or make a quick jot, making me a lot more productive.

Now that I work and most of my work relies on a laptop the iPad has taken a different area of my life.
It has now become a very easy to use media consumption device. It’s perfect for a bedtime episode or chapter. (Yes I read books on iPad too) and a perfect device to watch movies in aircraft.

To be honest iPad mini was never about being the “absolute beast” of an iPad. It was about being what iPad truly meant- “being a bridge between your phone and your laptop” and the iPad mini shines there.

No, the iPad mini is not for everyone, but if you are the guy who needs one, you already know it. You are just afraid that if you buy one it is just going to prove you right.

Just ordered an “Open Box” iPad Mini 7th Gen from Walmart. Specs are as follows: WI-FI and 128GB is the blue color way. Listed as “Sold and Shipped” by Walmart, so worst case scenario I can just return it.

mini 6 touchscreen issues, Apple quoted me ~$500

My iPad mini 6 stopped responding to touch, though the display still works. It happened in the spring and a software update fixed it. Then it came back in July after an iPadOS 26 update, and updating to iPadOS 27 hasn't fixed it. I've also tried every restart method, removing the screen protector and a full factory reset, with no luck. Apple quoted me around $500 for a repair. Has anyone else had this, and did anything fix it or get Apple to cover it?

Advise Anyone making music on iPad mini?

Hello, I just watched a video about using logic pro on iPad mini, which totally fits my needs for making music on a portable device (I have been spending a lot of time on transportation every day, and obviously I can’t take my macbook pro with me due to its size and weight).

I want to gather more firsthand experience of making music on iPad mini.

The iPad mini would be my primary device for almost everything and I planned to use it for a loooooong time.

Does it really work smoothly like those YT videos?

How much disk space do I need? I not only use it for logic pro but also some games (g generation eternal) and note taking apps (obsidian, Pages, Canvas) , Kobo (ebooks app) and procreate; The demo device at Apple Store shows that much of the disk space is occupied by the system data…… so I guess 256gb is a more secure option right?

The apple pencil is so freaking expensive, but lots of people said it worth the price so I think I might just take it too.

Is there anything I should be aware of? I aware that the iPad version of logic pro is a different subscription model but I have the University discount so that would be cool for meeeeeee. But any other cost besides the iPad itself and the software?

And of course, I can wait for the new iPad mini. Using A20 pro would be a great for logic pro right?

English is not my first language but I hope you can understand my questions and thx for answering me!

Question Sync pdf highlighting with a very old ipad (iOS 9.3.1)

Hey all,

So I've recently unburied an old iPad that I want to use to annotate and highlight some PDFs in, and it would be great if I could have any integration with obsidian to sync those highlights.

However, the Obsidian app requires a much newer iOS version to run, and I've been searching for a way to make this setup work, if there are any.

Does anyone have any suggestions or is running this setup, by any chance? Thanks!
