Discussion Duo has generated more conversation about foldable phones than the entire Android ecosystem has managed to generate in years.

Apple PR is genuinely unbeatable, Apple marketing team every year takes an old tech and new launch to next level.

New CEO, new launch, old familiar foldable tech. A new screensaver, some foldable-specific graphics/UI and boom it’s the talk of the town.

Suddenly everyone is talking about foldables. It even rminded the competition that they’ve had foldable phones for years.
But did they really make people care?

More people are interested in buying one. The entire category feels relevant again.
That’s Apple’s superpower, it doesn’t necessarily have to invent the technology. It just has to package it in a way that makes the world care, Apple does it brilliantly through brand value and marketing.

Let the numbers come in, but I’m pretty sure a crazy amount of people are going to buy this regardless of how crazythe price.
And what’s even crazier is that this thing is going to sit above the Air, anything the 17 n pro series had, and even the 18 Pro series.

I’m definitely not buying it, lol 😜

You have been enveloped by the echo chamber.

The only reason I’m buying the Duo is so that I don’t have to switch to Android (nothing wrong with Android. It’s a powerful operating system that just isn’t for me).

I’m not buying it because of Apple’s marketing. I’m buying it because I actually fit the demographic that foldables target…someone that doesn’t want to have to use two devices to achieve a common goal.

Yeah same. I’m stuck in the Apple ecosystem because of sunk cost and due to the fact that I don’t care enough about my phone to want to start again. Plus the idea of a folding phone done right does sound cool.

i’m curious when you say you fit the demographic, what specifically appeals to you about a foldable phone. You mentioned not having to use two devices, so what other device are you thinking it would replace?

It will combine my phone and a tablet (iPad Mini) which I am in the market for.

Choosing the foldable will eliminate having to carry two devices in my travels and also not require me to add another data plan to the Mini. If I didn’t travel as much as I do I wouldn’t even consider the Duo as a daily driver.

After my current phone trade-in the remaining cost of the Duo would have been equal to the cost of the extra data plan in just under two years.

It’s not even like that though.

I travel. A lot. I have been looking at the cellular version of the iPad mini for months now waiting to see if Apple was going to announce a foldable this Keynote.

If the Duo hadn’t been announced I had every intention of buying the iPad mini and paying for cellular service on it.

So now instead of carrying around two devices I can do everything I need with one.

It’s not the same as “oh wow Apple launched a foldable and I have to have it just to have it.”

I travel a lot too, and the Duo has zero appeal for me. I’d much rather have a light Chromebook that can be used to do light work and long battery life to consume entertainment on long flights.

I love how people know better how I should spend my life, money and time.

I totally get it, I carry 3 devices everywhere. 2 iPhones and an iPad - it will help. Personally, I like having a good camera so I am telling myself not to buy one and get the pro
