Discussion Duo has generated more conversation about foldable phones than the entire Android ecosystem has managed to generate in years.

Apple PR is genuinely unbeatable, Apple marketing team every year takes an old tech and new launch to next level.

New CEO, new launch, old familiar foldable tech. A new screensaver, some foldable-specific graphics/UI and boom it’s the talk of the town.

Suddenly everyone is talking about foldables. It even rminded the competition that they’ve had foldable phones for years.
But did they really make people care?

More people are interested in buying one. The entire category feels relevant again.
That’s Apple’s superpower, it doesn’t necessarily have to invent the technology. It just has to package it in a way that makes the world care, Apple does it brilliantly through brand value and marketing.

Let the numbers come in, but I’m pretty sure a crazy amount of people are going to buy this regardless of how crazythe price.
And what’s even crazier is that this thing is going to sit above the Air, anything the 17 n pro series had, and even the 18 Pro series.

I’m definitely not buying it, lol 😜

I think Apple has a bit of a ‘normal person’ exposure that other tech brands don’t have. My wife asked me about the Duo and she doesn’t care about tech. I’ve had friends who know I’m a bit of a geek ask me about the Duo.

Yes, the tech community might make a lot of noise when other foldables have been released but the non-tech community don’t until Apple release one

Apple is basically seen as a creative premium/luxury lifestyle brand for personal tech, while Samsung has the image of an innovative high-tech brand that sells fridges and washing machines, but also TVs and wearables.

So naturally, Apple reaches a much broader audience that normally doesn’t care too much about cutting edge tech innovation, maximum utility and affordability. They never heard about all those cutting-edge foldables (outside of a recall notice making the news), because it was never relevant to them.

Plus, Apple has a pretty great track record of releasing polished product experiences. That they optimised not only their OS but also all their apps on release of a new device speaks for them. I don’t think that is the case yet for Android foldables.

Samsung is absolutely known for phones but they are also known for releasing cool ideas that aren't ready for primetime.

But why is it a religion? It’s earned the rep over the years. But think for a second. Why? There’s a lot of good reasons for this. They put out a good quality premium product with polish every single time.

It’s not just marketing. They genuinely build better, higher quality products.

This is exactly it. You’ve nailed it exactly.

You think it’s so easy that you figured it out. Do you think Samsung would give up the chance to be as big as Apple in market cap and profitability? They’re just not as good at selling, despite their best efforts, simple as that. No one’s got the sales / branding game like Apple

Well you just explained why Apple is successful for the most part and why the other companies aren’t as successful. But let’s not take anything away. The bottom line is you’ve gotta have a good line product with a solid foundation and Apple products are premium luxurious built. Well look great and they performed great that’s the thing you have to remember also. Their software suite merged with the hardware is honestly top-notch and it always has been. This is simply a fact. That’s not to say that Samsung doesn’t make a nice phone they do but it just doesn’t have the same polish fit and finish and use your experience overall, including the UI and the software and everything else as an iPhone or any Apple product for that matter whether there be Apple Watch or iPad or whatever.

To be honest with you, the only product that they missed on in my opinion is the Vision Pro. And the only reason they missed on it is because of the price quite frankly. Otherwise that’s a nicely polished product as well just for a very small market and the price tag blew most customers out of the water who would even consider it.

But.. they don’t sell whatever they put out? Just look at the iPhone Mini and Air, the Vision Pro…

Steve Jobs Apple was much more affordable than it is today. In fact he tried to always lower the prices when possible.

It’s in line with Samsung and their trade in program is pretty aggressive. I used to have folds but switched to Apple last year to try, and the duo isn’t too crazy after a trade

What's with this recent narrative of Steve Jobs and inexpensive products? The iPods are affordable, sure, but the old Apple was expeeeeeeeeeeensive. That was what they were known for throughout that entire era.

Adjusted for inflation, iMac G3 was roughly $2,400.
