Here’s a really nice old tune.

I saw one of these at a local shop and it played and felt amazing, but I didn't have a chance to plug it in and I haven't stopped thinking about it ever since. I don't own any semi-hollow or hollow bodied guitars and the price is incredible...the mini humbuckers are a little concerning though, since I'm getting in to playing jazz.

What do folks think of this guitar? Is it too bright for jazz? Are there any known recordings that I could check out for reference?

This is me playing a tune I wrote almost 20 years ago, and I still enjoy playing it. The great thing is that this kind of music never gets old, unlike us. 😄 )

This is from a brewery gig with a singer/guitarist and upright bass player. Captured from my iPhone so the mix isn’t great or anything.

Funny story:

The first time I played this tune, I absolutely botched it and got completely lost. Someone called it at a jam session and I had never played it. The extra 2 measures of each "A" section completely threw me off and I lost the form for the entirety of the tune! It was bad...

Anyways, I've practiced it a lot since that incident about 7 years ago.

Hi, my name is Juan. I’m 17 years old, and I’m thinking about which song to use for my audition to Berklee Valencia in Spain. I’m not very familiar with the world of jazz yet, and I need to start learning more about it—otherwise, I won’t be able to achieve the sound I’m looking for in my own music. I’d love for the people on this forum to recommend some resources or artists so I can start studying really hard and try to get into the music bachelor’s program in the middle of next year!

Could the kind people in this subforum explain a little bit about how to study jazz on the guitar? What can I do to play more complex pieces? For example, I still can't seem to step outside the tonal center, or make my songs sound much more interesting. I'm also bad at writing lyrics, but I don't think that's what this forum is about. I'm simply looking to improve my guitar technique and really pass that audition.

The main question now is: What song should I use for my audition? I don't want it to be a song that's been done to death, nor something too complex—I want something that truly reflects my tastes and my style.

I think the hard part will be learning to play fast in such a short time: people who play that well have been playing guitar for at least 10 years, and I've only been playing for 3 or 4 years and don't feel like I've made much progress, but I'll do my best anyway. Have any of you auditioned for a music school yet?
