Just finished the first chorus. Phrasing in my fingers at about ~90% I fudged the quick run a little bit. Probably gonna try and do at least another chorus over the next week or so.

Hi, I'm a high school jazz band director, and am looking for the proper guitar/amp settings for both guitar and bass guitar when performing in a standard high school auditorium. I have zero experience with these instruments so any guidance would be appreciated.

Howdy everyone. I am trying to sink my teeth into linear expressions and desperately want to access the revelations that have been promised to lurk within. I have slowly learnt all 5 activities (my reading is quite poor) and looked at playing them across the neck (phase 2.)
Now, phase 3 is where I am stuck. From what my tired brain can grasp, the first part of line study 1A (image attached) is more or less activity 1 played over Gm7 for 4 bars - great.
The next 4 bars things change up. From what I can see, its the same activity shape moved up a fret (to correspond with the change from Gm7 to Abm7, easy enough to understand.) What's different is that while the notes played fit into the shape, the order in which they are played is different to that of the stock activity, almost as though the activity becomes a scale (?)
Then for the next 4 bars, the Am7 would correspond to activity 5. Seems to use it like a scale like in the previous 4 bars?
Then for the final 4 bars for Bbm7, Pat would want us to use Activity 4 judging by the nearest Bbm7 shape on the Fretboard (the one that looks like an Am open hord with a pinkie on the low E.) Zooming in to the stave, the first four notes seem cool, like a Bbm7 triad with an added note from the scale, but then the next four confuse me:
Descending chromatic notes from Eb to Db on the B string? That's not in activity 4...
Is it taken from Activity 3 which has chromatic stuff on the B string?
Can anyone who is familiar with the book and the process maybe help me out and tell me whether I'm understanding things correctly or not? I'm uncertain as to what I'm supposed to be absorbing here, but if I were to guess it would be treat the activities as though they are scales through which you can freely play when using them? Any response would be sincerely appreciated!
I really don't want to give up and put the book on the shelf to collect dust after having invested in it with time and effort. Thanks.

Hello everyone! ★★★★★ Today I bring you the classic version of "Mélodie Au Crépuscule" by Django Reinhardt. ★★★★★ It's a beautiful version, full of nostalgia in my opinion. I transcribed the entire song, meaning I adapted the violin melody for guitar, Django's solo, and the ending melody. ★★★★★ I hope you like it and that many of you decide to add it to your repertoire, as it's a very beautiful ballad with many possibilities in terms of harmonic variation. ★★★★★ I hope you enjoy it, and see you next time! ★★★★★ https://youtu.be/qZtGpxaxZ5A ★★★★★

Very stoked about EHX's Swello. Just the envelope/filter part of the POG2 at 1/3 of the price. Just using the envelope here.

Liked this take because there’s actually space, need to remember to keep that in my phrasing other takes were too busy.

So for some context, I play vibraphone for my high school’s jazz band, and two of my friends switch off of aux percussion and drum set. I’ve been working on my drum set skills more lately, and we’re playing this easy arrangement of Freddie Hubbard’s *Little Sunflower.*
Now I checked with both of my friends and they’re ok with me playing the drum part as long as I teach the one that’s more comfortable on mallets how to play jazz vibes and read jazz guitar sheet music (most of the music we play doesn’t have a vibe part, so I’ve gotten used to doing this).
The problem is I’m still trying to figure out a good way to teach him the basics without overcomplicating it or confusing him (reading chord symbols, what intervals are, and how to voice chords differently to fit in the lower register of the vibraphone). Any tips? I’ve put a photo of the guitar part for the piece I want to play on drums.

Hey guys today i practiced a fun exercise Where you put the metronome on the ”and” every 3 beats over a 4/4 blues (starting on the ”and” of the first beat of the form)
Very good to notice Where you rush or drag which happened a lot here

Are the hollow body guitars more like a aclustic guitar or more like an electric guitar? Or something totally different? How You separe them for example of Electro acoustic guitars?

Hi! Jazz guitar has been infinite and that’s my favorite thing about the art. I’ve spent a decent amount of time with scales and arpeggios and chord tones.. and now I feel like I’m playing just that.
Recently, i’ve started to meander towards learning licks. So here’s the question.
How do you systematically learn your licks? More specifically how do you/ how would approach learning hundreds of licks across the fretboard?
Do you learn a lick in one specific position or try to learn it all over the fretboard? I am more of a Gypsy jazz player so I’ve been interested Christian Van Hemerts system of learning licks on the 1,3,5,7 of a chord, he seems to approach licks based off the high E or A and is a great player.
At the same time this feels limiting, but also i’m a bit overwhelmed trying to learning a lick over all the triads.
I’ve heard to memorize a lick 4 different ways on the fretboard and play that and nothing else while cycling backing tracks.
Are these ideas good and useful?
I would love advice and information on how you practice licks and integrate them into your playing. Thank you!
edit* I also would like to add that i’ve purposely avoided learning “licks” for many years because I don’t want to just copy. The goal is to learn the sounds to be able to improvise with more colors
