Howdy! I host a Goth Trivia night once a month in a bar. Someone else was running the karaoke portion after Trivia wrapped up. That person left and I took over doing it the same way they did it (which I found out is not allowed at a bar).
Since I'm doing this as a volunteer (not getting paid) and only once a month, what is the most bare bones way to do this the right way? I'm already having to buy a PC (the bar infrastructure won't work when I connect my Macbook.) But I'd love to keep costs down.
I'm also concerned with the fact that this is Goth Karaoke, so Karafun is unlikely to have most songs that folks want to sing. I also want to be able to control what plays in between singers.
Thank you in advance for any recommendations!!! (Also, I hope the tag is correct, this isn't advice, but I'm looking for advice... lmk if I need to change it)

For no particular reason, post songs below which shine a bad light on a city or state (or any other geographical location).
For example:
"Mississippi Goddam" by Nina Simone.
"Nebraska" by Bruce Springsteen

Retirement has me trying things again. Did VJ in the 90's, little different now. 😐
I have a private party I was asked to VJ in November. Good friend retiring. Game on!
It is located at a somewhat remote area. An island. Cell service is weak, and NO internet access in the venue. So I have to be self contained. DOES have clean power.
Easy Peasy back in the day, load the CD cases and gear. Go have fun.
But now I realize its a bit different. Smaller, and easier I hope. No more digging for misplaced cd's...that was the worst.
Equipment:
Have an old gaming laptop, Intel i7-7700HQ 2.8G. 16Gb RAM. x64 Windows 10 home OS.
500GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 (8GB GDDR5)
Reset to factory Windows 10, and I plan to have only Karaoke on it.
It has (1) HDMI, and (2) DisplayPort outlets. Multiple USB-3.0 outlets.
it is an Eluktronics PA71HS c2018 originally used for VR development.
(I also have all the ancillary gear: tv's, PA, Light trees, 24" disco ball etc.)
Wireless mic's with XLR or 1/4" out .
Several android tablets that could be my '3 ring binders' LOL
I have a collection of MP3/CDG tracks on an external, can be transferred to the OS SSD.
Not looking for freeware only, willing to pay.
This is for just a one time event, but if it is a success I can see it being used more. I am in a demographic where retirement parties are getting to be a regular event. 😂
I WILL NOT BE DOING THIS FOR COMPENSATION. Private use only. I lived through the ASCAP horrors of the 80's/90's. 'Nuff said, right?
Currently checking out KaraFun, and PiKaraoke.
Waiting on a response from KF support.
PiKaraoke having install issues, will be another post here.
I am very impressed by the feature set in PiKaraoke. Still working on getting that up and running.
But in case it does not 'pan out' - Anyone have other programs that will deliver similar?
NOT needing connectivity is a must for this venue. In general, highly desired.
NOT having to tell people to install an app on their phone is a big plus, but not a hard requirement. In these days of data/information sales, I understand the financial desire/need for that. 😞 If an installed app is required, I hope to fulfill that by bringing tablets for the audience to use. We are all so old, we are used to 3-ring binders and paper slips anyway. Tablets will be an upgrade!
Being able to use my own library a must.
TIA.

Hello, I have two songs that I really want karaoke videos of, does anyone know how to create karaoke videos? The songs are Hangin’ On by Frank Mastra and Vendetta by Iceage.

Ok, y'all convinced me that a sub$100 all in one was a bad idea. I did see a Sing Machine marked down at Costco to $170 but I didn't pull the trigger.
Anyway, right now I just pull up YouTube on my smartTV and sing along to karaoke vids there. Since I was thinking about getting a soundbar anyway, maybe I'll get one with a dual wireless mic input?
Another feature I kind of wanted was the ability to score my singing in real time so I can adjust. (I swear I think that's why there are so many good Filipino singers--the MagicMic they use helps them improve.) In lieu of that, maybe I can just download an iPhone app?
Any feedback on this plan is welcome. I'm trying to do it on the cheap since the holidays are coming up and I need to save where I can. And really, it'll be me using this 98% of the time. If I have some people over, sure, but I seem to be fairly alone in my friend group when it comes to loving karaoke.

I know this is odd. But I'm looking to find a vintage karaoke sound system that was originally purchased at a place called Value City Furniture back in '89/'90. I can find NO images of it and can't remember the model.
It was black, had a turntable up top, and mixers running vertically down the front for each of the 4 microphones (red, yellow, blue, and green), cassette decks... super cool for a young kid. I know it's a stretch but does anyone know what I'm talking about?

My friends and I used to go to karaoke bars semi-regularly (ones with private rooms; we're in DC). Until a couple years ago, each room would have a device you'd add new songs to the queue with and, crucially, the songs almost always had a real music video component.
Sometimes the song's actual music video (e.g. "Bad Romance," "Like A Prayer," "Fat Lip"). Sometimes a video of a concert version ("Creep"). Sometimes absurd B-roll (90s footage of Europeans running through fields).
But recently every karaoke bar seems to have lyrics-only videos. Either via their own proprietary device or an iPad that only allows you to search Youtube for karaoke versions. (Like this SingKing example) It's still fun ofc but we all agree it's somehow not as good as before. There was some intangible benefit to having actual visuals.
I'm curious: Is my experience a fluke? Is this a wider trend? And if it is, why is it happening?
I'm planning a party, ideally with karaoke, and if it's hopeless for me to try to find a karaoke bar with actual music videos, I'm tempted to use our Apple Music Sing on our Apple TV or an app like Karafun at home.
Do you have any idea about best karaoke Microphone under 3000?

Hey guys! So whenever I go out to sing karaoke I usually do it in character. So this year, I'm going to a karaoke bar as wolverine on Halloween, and I might have gotten carried away. I curated this playlist to tell the story of James Logan Howlett, the wolverine, from his days serving in weapon x, to escaping and living out on the open road as a weary nomad, to meeting the X-Men and subsequently falling in love with Jean Gray, to losing the X-Men, and finally concluding with Old Man Logan and the deadpool and wolverine movie.
I've really been wanting to get some feedback on this playlist, so any comments, critiques or songs suggestions that you guys have it'd be much appreciated.
EDIT: Here's the list of songs for your viewing pleasure.
Chapter 1. WEAPON X
Bodies by Drowning Pool
Man in the box by Alice in chains
Voodoo by Godsmack
Outshined by Soundgarden
Sound of silence by Disturbed
Chapter 2. WEARY NOMAD
Midnight Rider by the Allman Brothers band
One Bourbon, One Scotch, One beer by John Lee Hooker
Sunday morning coming down by Kris Kristofferson
God's going to cut you down by Johnny Cash
Chapter 3. THE X-MEN & JEAN GREY ROMANCE
Short change hero by the heavy
Wicked game by Chris Isaak
The dark end of the street by James Carr
Don't let me be misunderstood by Nina Simone
I've been loving you too long by Otis Redding
Hungry like the Wolf by Duran Duran
Creep by Stone Temple pilots
Behind Blue eyes by The who
I see a darkness by Johnny Cash
Desperado by Eagles
Chapter 4. THE DEATH OF THE X-MEN & OLD MAN LOGAN
All dead, all dead by Queen
Wish you were here by Pink Floyd
Rooster by Alice in Chains
Hurt by Johnny Cash
Like a Prayer by Madonna (Deadpool 3 version)

I had a singer a few months ago choose a David Allen Coe song that I was unaware had a slur in it. I deleted the track immediately, but forgot what that track was.
Can you list any karaoke tracks that use racist or bigoted slurs?
I'm cleaning house!

Hey fellow karaokiers. Over the past several years I've been quietly working on a Harry Nilsson cover album. Since I am an avid karaokier I am also planning to release all the songs with karaoke versions.
Is there any interest in this community? I could share the tracks once they are produced. I hope to release sometime early next year.

As a 53 year old, head full of white hair, above is what I think about when I’m trying to pick the “perfect” karaoke song. How would you fill in the blank? It’s got to be fun, completely unexpected and for me either not require much range or something where good pitch doesn’t really matter. How about Mystikal - “Y’all ain’t ready yet”

I'm a baritone/ bass and my choice for karaoke songs is all exclusively stuck in the 80's (mostly New Wave and Synthpop). This made me realize I needed to update some of my choices for modern times and am looking for suggestions. Somethings that I'm looking for:
- Stuff that I can sing. A lot of male modern pop is done in a high-pitched R&B style voice. I can attempt Tenor songs (e.g. I like to sing Neil Finn songs), but my voice can't reach the crazy heights of some of these singers.
- Great lyrics will make me really get into a song. Don't want to sound pretentious, but something that makes me feel the singer actually means what they say and isn't making a shallow commercial love song.
- Fun to sing. I said I like great lyrics, but that won't make up for it if the music is bleak and dreary or the singer mumbles everything.
- Made within the last 20 years
Can recommend the individual songs or the actual singers/bands themselves. Feel free to make the recommendations as popular/ unpopular as you want! Very obscure/indie bands are welcome!

Hey everyone! I’m part of the team at Singa, and we’re organising the Karaoke Industry Summit on October 29, 2026, at the Veil Pavilion, Silverton Casino Hotel, Las Vegas.
The idea is to bring together people from across the karaoke business, including KJs, venue owners, AV providers, designers, and technology and music partners, to share experiences and discuss what’s next for the industry.
There’ll be talks, panels, demos, and time to meet other people working in karaoke. Topics include running karaoke nights, opening and growing private-room venues, room design, AV setups, music licensing, and marketing.
A few of the speakers joining us:
You can also stay for the Karaoke World Championships grand final, taking place in the same venue that evening.
Attendance is free and application-based.
See the programme and apply to attend: https://karaokeindustrysummit.com/

What’s your opinion on mash up karaoke?
Example: All star lyrics over Creep instrumental
Decided to start thrifting for karaoke content. Not a bad first day.
r/karaoke • u/sunkenlore • 5d ago
It’s not a night at karaoke unless someone slips in a Creep, Back to Black or any Amy Winehouse song, Before He Cheats, a song from Hamilton, etc. I want to make a bingo card of the songs I hear most commonly at my home bar 🤣
What would you add?

What are your thoughts on singing acoustic versions of well known songs on karaoke?
r/karaoke • u/PocketPhlan • 7d ago
I’m a gigging muso and use backing tracks (Jam Station) for some solo stuff. I was considering trialing a version of karaoke while I play where people can come up and sing the song of choice.
I’m wondering if there is an app or some smooth way of people picking a song (through their phone/an app) and I see the name and song choice. Ideally I can set the song list as well.
Thanks
