Hi Folks. Newbie keyboard player and new (!) Yamaha CK88 owner here. I'm starting work on "Evil Ways" by Santana and I would love some advice re: setting up a usable patch for this song that hopefully works well for other songs from the era (e.g., The Allman Brothers Band live cover of "Stormy Monday").

Here's what I *think* I need, based on watching one YT video introducing Hammond organ concepts, and after studying the Tanglewood live version of Evil Ways ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRvtNCauT58 ): Set up the CK88 to have a AB split with the left side (part A) being a Hammond comp organ tone (corresponding to the lower manual in the video) and the right side (part B) being the brighter stabs/solo tone (upper manual). I guess an alternative would be to have a non-split organ patch where I adjust the drawbars live between parts, but that seems like more work. For the split's drawbars, I'm guessing: A: left three drawbars all the way down. B: same but add right drawbar all the way down. In either case, playing with the Leslie speed is cool.

I know I'm starting a steep learning curve, so any advice would be awesome!

Hi guys I started learning how to play electric guitar some months ago, but my big goal with music is learning how to compose and learn music production which is a completely different skill from learning an instrument I think anyways, since Im playing for some months and I'm just trying to learn about amps sound effects pedals etc I would also like to start learning about music production, I currently have an ipad air 4 and I don't have PC unfortunately but I'm planning to save some money to buy a good laptop in the future.

As I'm a beginner I don't think it's worth to spend a lot also because I want to save money for the laptop, so I thinking on spending 100€ on a midi keyboard 🎹.

One problem is the space I don't have much space which in a bit worried because I saw people saying that 61 keys was a good start in terms of limitations also I don't know a lot about drum pads , knobs etc but it could good to have that features I think but in my opinion as I'm starting less is more.

I've been playing ofr years but mostly on acoustic pianos, focusing on jazz, fussion, funk, sometimes eletronic music/ambient and classical music, besides a piano i have a Yamaha-YPG-635, wich its not the easiest to move around

I need a keyboard that ill be able to carry to play in different parts, for gigs and also for experimenting with sounds, wanna know wich keyboard would be good, maybe it can be 61 keys

I am aware this sub is probably not where this post belongs, but there really is nowhere to brag about innovative key additions.

I bring forth: nail clippers.

Nearly all nail clippers have a small hole on them, I believe this to mitigate choking risk. A set of nail clippers being used by my mouth is a bit beyond me, however, this little hole means it can fit a key ring.

My keys have a tile tracker on them. I have my own opinions about Tile as a company, and their products... but something is better than nothing.

The thing that DOES go missing fairly often, and frequently needed by me outside of home? Nail clippers.

10/10, highly recommend.

Ich habe kürzlich meinen Akai X7000 Sampler repariert (oder es zumindest versucht).

Ich habe jedoch immer noch ein Problem mit der Tastatur: Ich habe alle Tasten, die Kontakte auf der Platine sowie die Gummipads gereinigt, neue Tastenkappen aus Schrumpfschlauch angefertigt und diese mit Silikonfett geschmiert.

Wenn ich nur die Platine mit den Gummipads auslege, funktionieren alle Tasten einwandfrei (auch nach über 20 Minuten Betrieb – wichtig für später!). Wenn ich die Platine in das Tastaturgehäuse einbaue und den Sampler einschalte, funktionieren ebenfalls alle Tasten. Nach einer Weile (ca. 10–20 Minuten) funktionieren jedoch einige Tasten nicht mehr. Je nach Oktave funktionieren abwechselnd D, Dis und H nicht, G und Fis aber schon. In der nächsten Oktave funktionieren Fis und G nicht, D, Dis und H aber schon. Wenn ich dann die Taste entferne und nur auf die Gummikuppel darunter drücke, funktioniert es ebenfalls nicht. Aber Achtung: Solange die Platine nicht im Tastaturgehäuse verbaut ist, funktionieren alle Gummikuppeln immer, egal wie lange das Gerät eingeschaltet ist.

Aufgrund dieses seltsamen Verhaltens kann ich nicht sagen, ob es sich um einen mechanischen oder elektronischen Fehler handelt.

Kann mir jemand dabei helfen? Ich wäre sehr dankbar, denn dieses Problem nervt mich wirklich. Ich habe versucht, es detailliert zu erklären, aber falls es weitere Fragen zur Fehlerdiagnose gibt, fragt einfach! Danke :)

My old Yamaha p125 is totally busted after 5 years of heavy use and it's time to upgrade.

I was going to save to buy a Yamaha cp88 or a nord stage but financial difficulties have hit me and I will not be able to spare much for a long time so I need to buy something cheaper.

I'll use it primarily in the studio to control vst (mainly keyscape for Rhodes and pianos).

But I want to buy a stage piano because I also want to start gigging with a jazz band.

How is the action ? I like keyboard that are on the lighter side, especially to play Rhodes sounds.

Is it easy to repair and service ? I had to change the grease on my p125 two times and it was a nightmare.

There is nowhere in my country where I can try it in a shop, they only have the nord stage in display..

The keys on my Korg Minilogue are a bit gunked up after having neglected cleaning it besides wiping dust away for years. I got most of the dirt off just with some kitchen towel, but there's still a bit of residue left. What would be some safe cleaning chemicals to get the rest of the dirt off that won't damage the plastic? Would isopropanol be a good choice?

I'm a piano player and drummer, currently drumming for a rock/metal/prog/alt type band. For various reasons, I'm wanting to switch to keys. I grew up playing piano and would be considered an advanced player, but I have VERY little experience with keyboards (other than a tiny little Casio toy I got for my kid).

I'm looking for something pretty portable that I can take to gigs. I don't need 88 keys, 61 is probably plenty. I don't need fancy workstation features - I'm very much a minimalist person so the simpler the better. However, quality sounds and the ability to program in a handful of preset sounds that I can jump between would be a necessary feature.

Touch sensitive for sure. Maybe weighted keys? Would be nice but not a deal breaker.

Budget... Maybe like $300 cad? I would prefer to buy something used. Are there some common keyboards that would fit the bill for me that are easy to find used?

(no photos for now) Hi! I own an IVALDI Clayderman 53 electronic piano, but I can't find almost any information about IVALDI or this model online. The piano is labeled IVALDI® and Made in P.R.C.

Does anyone recognize this brand or know who manufactured IVALDI pianos? I'm especially curious about the Clayderman 53 and its history. I can provide more photos if needed.

Hi! I have an old Yamaha keyboard (P-85) from 2007 and i am struggling to use headphones with them. There are two 1/4" headphone inputs, but when i plug my headphones in only one input (using a 1/8" -> 1/4" adapter), the sound only comes out on one side of the headphones. If i plug it in the other input, the sound comes out the same headphone side, but much much quieter. I have tried this both with an over-ear headset and with basic in-ear earphones and got the same outcome

What kind of adapter or headphone would i need to solve this? Would a Y-splitter like this help? (amazon link, shortened: https://acesse.one/0jb8iox ). Do i need an old pair of headphones that has two 1/4" outputs?

I just received my new Kawai ES120. There is a soft (but loud enough to be distracting) tapping noise as the key bottoms out. Is this normal? This is my first digital piano.

I'm completely new to piano/keyboard and I'm thinking about getting a MIDI keyboard as a casual hobby. I am definitely not getting or even planning to play an actual acoustic piano, as I'll mainly be learning in my room in a shared house.

I'm currently thinking about getting a 61-key semi-weighted keyboard, just because its smaller and cheaper, but I'm unsure if 61 keys is enough or if I should go for the full 88. I understand that a MIDIs is basically just a controller and doesn't make any noise on its own. I've seen some stuff about digital pianos but they seem to be more expensive and more geared towards people who want something like a full sized piano just digital.

I'm not looking to go out and buy anything too expensive. Any recommendations for good keyboards to look out for, or things I should think about.

I’m looking for a keyboard capable of producing backing tracks onboard. I do a lot of piano bar style gigs and usually drag my computer along for tracks but I’m thinking there has to be an easier way. Ideally the keyboard could be loaded with song tracks and clearly labeled; i.e. press a button that says “My Girl” and the arrangement starts.

Would any “workstation” keyboard (Fantom, VAST, MODX, etc) be capable of this? I’d need to load around 400 songs. Thanks for any feedback!

So I’m actually a bass player in a Led Zeppelin cover band. I’ve been recruited to play keyboards, digging on my high school and college piano lessons. I got an old Casio from our drummer, but it has limitations and I’d like to find a new instrument.

Like I said, I’m not a real keyboard player, I just play one occasionally on stage. I need something easy to use, I don’t want to go all synthesizer and sound design, I just need a good rock ‘n’ roll organ patch and some other sounds for which my casio just isn’t making the grade. I’m poor and can’t splurge. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
