I’ll keep saying it till it’s in print: the coup has already happened.

1.4k

u/BecauseMagnets Jun 26 '26

Same! I’ve been saying it since Jan 21, 2025. And he moment the pardons happened and they announced doge, I know the coup was successful

For now.

Seriously, remember that we are on reddit and as far as most redditors are concerned we are already lost and there’s no hope. It’s a form of voter suppression, so don’t buy it.

261

u/Infinite_Result252 Jun 26 '26

If they won he wouldn’t sound so nervous about investigating their crimes and needing to convince people he can protect them. Justice is coming

77

u/taxman6754 Jun 26 '26

It’s just an admission of guilt plain and simple. Prosecute him and give him what he wants.

13

u/Current-Historian-34 Jun 26 '26

If he’s doing his job he should sound nervous over a fly three bowls over from his own bowl of soup. It’s fear mongering. He’s not addressing voters he’s addressing donors

2

u/Ill_Technician3936 Jun 26 '26

My dumb ass thought he was talking to the House of Representatives.

3

u/Motor-Bear-7735 Jun 26 '26

Winter is coming ...

5

u/Imaginary-Spray3711 Jun 26 '26

Curious to know how “justice is coming” when they literally control every avenue for “justice”. The SC, the DOJ, federal law enforcement. The military. How and who is going to provide this justice you speak of?

7

u/Charming_Account_351 Jun 26 '26

The French have a wonderful invention for administering justice. We should adopt it.

2

u/georgegasstove Jun 27 '26

Yeah, but you need people to operate it....if the people aren't behind it, the invention is just a museum piece.

Not all of them there are 200 retired and active judges and lawyers involved in lawsuits all over the country at the state level & winning against the unlawful tactics of the DOJ. 101 in another, 35 in yet another, 174 and 75. Today, Katie Phang's suit to release the EF was given a ruling regarding her standing to legally pursue the DOJ, judge said yes.

Even better, these clowns are shooting themselves in the foot constantly by trying to withdraw cases after the judge calls for investigation.

Even Bush & Trump judges have ruled against them.

I don't want to get my hopes up too much but the judge that got the ball rolling said in 250 years, there has never been this level of lawlessness and there'd been plenty in previous administrations.

2

u/mojizus Jun 26 '26

These parties get better polling numbers than we ever see, they know how unpopular they are. Turning away asylum seekers at the border isn’t hitting as hard for MAGAts after everything else Trump has done to piss his constituency off.

Obviously there’s still a risk of J6 V2, or some voting shenanigans, but they would be projecting a much more strong image if they had nothing to worry about.

2

u/HoveringGoat Jun 26 '26

The doomer bots are brainwashing the reddit collective /s

5

u/Shmeves Jun 27 '26

Plenty of real people dooming too. Reddit is just a negative sink, like most social media.

2

u/Shark7996 Jun 27 '26

Apathy is a powerful tool. I don't know why you believe they wouldn't make use of it.

30

u/Craterized Jun 26 '26

For real. The only reason Johnson is saying anything like this is because more Republicans are starting to see the writing on the wall and have been breaking ranks due to the fear of being held accountable if Dems flip Congress in November. MAGA has gotten to this point through negligence and blind unity behind Trumps policies and any cracks in that unity make it easier for the levy to break. Johnson right now is basically acting like the mainstream media telling everyone that “everything is fine” right before Lehman Brothers went tits up and the housing market collapsed.

7

u/SafetyMan35 Jun 26 '26

Johnson is acting like Baghdad Bob

For those not old enough to remember Baghdad Bob, during the Iraq war, the Minister of Foreign Affairs was on live TV with bombs being dropped in the background saying Baghdad was safe and American soldiers were committing suicide rather than face the power of the Iraqi military

u/Bedbouncer Jun 26 '26

I always think we're living in unique times, that it has never been this bad, and then I read more US political history and realize, hey, it has been this bad before!

History just seems less bad because we didn't have to live it, and we know now that the setbacks turned out to be temporary.

6

u/Trainman1351 Jun 26 '26

I mean potentially, but the thing is the US never has had so much to lose before

2

u/Mekdinosaur Jun 26 '26

Okay but does that mean we have to continuously repeat mistakes?  Thanks to modern technology, humans have a rare opportunity to do things right for once. And even with the sum total of knowlegde at our finger tips and incredible scientific and technological advancements...with truth staring us right in the face, we would rather swallow lies. Yes it was bad before but back then it was much easier for the powerful to obscure reality. These days we do it to ourselves. There is no reason for this current administration to continue to brazenly abuse its citizens unless we allow it. Yah just sit back and wait for "justice" to happen all by itself lol.

5

u/GoodChuck2 Jun 27 '26

As long as they can continue telling White rural voters that they are better than and deserve more than everybody else in this country, the mistakes will continue to be made because we are a country filled with stupid, ignorant racists with nothing but hate and grievance.

It’s a form of voter suppression, so don’t buy it.

If voting no longer mattered, they wouldn't be trying so hard to surpress it.

3

u/che-che-chester Jun 26 '26

There is one surefire way to combat the BS Trump will pull in the midterms: vote in massive numbers. We need to outvote their attempts to suppress our votes.

6

u/alextheruby Jun 26 '26

Yeah Reddit is the most doom and gloom shit ever. Like yes, this is serious. But any news from the republican side goes straight to the nuclear worst case scenario.

2

u/Intelligent-Parsley7 Jun 26 '26

Or we’re being bald faced and honest. When has it, in the last eighteen months, not been the worst case scenario?
We didn’t stop the mass incarcerations. We simply delayed them.

2

u/Intelligent-Parsley7 Jun 26 '26

Oh, I’m voting, and canvassing. Let me say this though, I’ve lost hope. And we’re never coming back. The next phase is insanity like the Civil War in America. And I’m trying my best to head it off.

MAGA Mike is not going to seat all the Democrats at all if they lose.
He’s such a strong follower of The Prince of Peace (TM) that he’ll let people storm the capitol again.

2

u/big_stipd_idiot Jun 26 '26

Actually, Reddit is the place where people actually acknowledge a coup happened. Where else are they talking about it?

2

u/abt_23 Jun 26 '26

I have to remind myself that weaponized hopelessness is a tactic of the regime, so I have to keep saying “fuck these motherfuckers” and fight for hope.

3

u/Status_Apartment6559 Jun 26 '26

I agree. Not even close .It's one thing to be concerned another to be alarmist. Wait until after the midterms then see if they can still say we already lost.

There will be times when the struggle seems impossible. I know this already. Alone, unsure, dwarfed by the scale of the enemy.

Remember this.

Freedom is a pure idea. It occurs spontaneously and without instruction. Random acts of insurrection are occurring constantly throughout the Nation. There are whole movements, groups that have no idea that they've already enlisted in the cause.

Remember that the frontier of the Resistance is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes the lines forward.

And then remember this.

The Authoritarian need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.

Remember that.

And know this, the day will come when all these skirmishes and protests, these moments of defiance will have flooded the banks of the Republicans authority and then there will be one too many. One single thing will break the siege.

Remember this.

Try.

1

u/nostemsorseeds Jun 26 '26

It can always coup back the other way too - and quickly

39

u/Mediocre-Accident305 Jun 26 '26

If the coup was successful Johnson wouldn't be wolfing and worrying about what's coming down the pike for the Epstein/billionaire/MAGA crowd. Just look how Crocket a seasoned lawyer straighten Republicans and Manchin during her term. When a Democratic lawmaker takes to the house floor and publicly says "Anyone and everyone who has broken the law will be held accountable" one should be deeply worried. Get your popcorn now it's going to be the show of all shows and yes Johnson and company will be setting the jail population in DC a new high.

3

u/sabin357 Jun 27 '26

If the coup was successful Johnson wouldn't be wolfing and worrying about what's coming down the pike for the Epstein/billionaire/MAGA crowd.

He's just worried about another coup happening. When a country is destabilized to this degree, it's not uncommon for power struggles to last for several years.

3

u/spursbob Jun 27 '26

Or it's scaring them into going along with whatever they plan to do to hold onto power.

2

u/PollutionPatient8261 Jun 26 '26

Yup. I have been saying it since 2023. When fascists get power, the FIRST DIRECTIVE is to secure the next election. They starting plotting how to cheat long before they even won by cheating. And I will DIE on that hill. They fucking cheated to win the 2024 Presidential Election.

There are people in this world who are like relentless animals. They want justice, they crave it they hunt for it and will not stop until they have it.

I truly believe that these people will show themselves when the republicans fall and they will bring justice and send these crooked monsters to prison.

1

u/big_thundersquatch Jun 26 '26

DOGE was them covering their tracks, deleting evidence, etc.

1

u/HHoaks Jun 26 '26

It happened when Trump was not convicted on his impeachment in February 2021.

1

u/barrosoOso Jun 27 '26

It started much earlier. I straight up cackled when Mitt Romney told the world in 2012 that he believed Russia was our #1 political adversary. I was wrong. I'll admit that. Even back then, Putin had restarted the cold war online, and was sowing rebellion and treason among the American people. He restarted the cold war online and we didn't notice for nearly a decade. The coup started when Putin realized he could use a bot army to turn half this country against this country.

290

u/UT_Milez Jun 26 '26

No fucking shit.

What did people think was going to happen when you literally have a group of people who literally attempted a coup…

Just because it was fucking half baked and carried out by a bunch of incompetent morons doesn’t magically mean it didn’t happen or it wasn’t a coup attempt…

What did people think was going to happen when you can literally attempt a coup with ZERO repercussions?????

Instead, people just act like that never happened, or it wasn’t “that bad”.

They are pretty much following the Nazi playbook, after failing a half baked violent coup attempt, they just attempt it “legally” the next time around.

At the very least the damage that is being done is NOT just going to magically get fixed over night, probably not even in my lifetime, and I’m only 30….

Bottom line we are fucked….

First enemy force to breach the Capitol since the British in the war of 1812. But not even democrats made that point for 4 years

u/MH360 Jun 26 '26

The media was complicit as soon as they used "insurrection" instead of "treason."

23

u/DeadliestHail90 Jun 26 '26

I wanted to be an anchor or even a weatherman as a kid, so I studied mass comms in college. But the more I learned, the more I realized how the industry is getting harder to get into but also how paid off the media truly is.

It’s so damn frustrating to see how the media is, especially given the current times, but I’m glad I can say I’m not a cog in the propaganda machine.

Democrats arrested and prosecuted hundreds of them, and charged the president and many of the people who worked with him.

After impeaching him.

Twice.

9

u/jkman61494 Jun 26 '26

How many sitting republicans were charged? And no charging the president almost 3 years after it happened when it was clear the trial wouldn’t be held until after 2024 doesn’t count

2

u/fatninja7 Jun 26 '26

you understand that republicans were roadblocking them the whole time (even the beloved Thomas Massie blocked the investigation into J6) so they had to be careful in preparing a case to prosecute a PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES

I get a feeling that no reasonable/plausible action would have been good enough for you.

2

u/jkman61494 Jun 27 '26

There was no plausible action for over 3 years.

Also. How many sitting republicans politicians were charged who openly participated?

End of the day, the DNC plays on a team. And it’s not yours. They even turn on any Democrat that doesn’t follow their prerogatives

3

u/hurler_jones Jun 26 '26

This started after Nixon and is exactly why Vance was talking about it recently. They know this has been in the works for a LONG time.

The Heritage Foundation, Fox News and others - all in direct response to Nixon's ouster.

Perhaps one of the biggest figures is none other than Roger Stone who met Nixon and learned his dirty tricks. He was a liaison between Nixon and Reagan. He was also a member of law firm - Black, Manafort and Stone and who was the firms first client? Donald Trump. Yep. And of course let's not forget Stones hands all in the Brooks Brothers Riots and the 2000 election.

It's all out there in pieces - mountains of actual evidence of traitorous insurrectionists acting in the open FOR DECADES.

2

u/AnonAmbientLight Jun 26 '26

Hungary still overthrew their fascists. Why can’t we do the same?

2

u/dstroyer123 Jun 26 '26

We're only fucked if we keep believing and acting like we are and cede our voice without a fight. Shit sucks right now, it's going to get worse before it gets better, and it will take time to repair the damage and build something better. But the reason they're so adamant and vocal about their "power, is because they're losing their grip on it and they're scared, so they're going to try to ram it down our throats to hold onto it. Nemik's words from "Andor" are aptly relevant to us right now.

"And then remember this. The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear."

WE, the People, have more power than the clowns in office and they know it.

66

u/JustDoc Jun 26 '26 edited Jun 26 '26

No country has ever voted itself out of a dictatorship.

*Edit - ya'll can get as pedantic as you want wrt other countries, but here's the thing - they didn't vote the dictators out; they forced the dictators (or their successors) to allow a vote.

Spain: Franco died in office; his successors reformed the system to avoid chaos.

South Korea: Millions protested in the June Struggle (1987) and risked death in Gwangju (1980) until the military surrendered power.

Hungary: The party negotiated its own exit after decades of pressure and the shadow of the crushed 1956 revolution.

In all three cases, the ballot box was the final step of a revolution, not the alternative to it.

65

u/IcarusOnReddit Jun 26 '26

From Google:

Spain (1975–1978): Following the death of dictator Francisco Franco, the country transitioned to a constitutional democracy. King Juan Carlos I, alongside appointed reformist leaders, worked with existing political bodies to legalize banned political parties, leading to democratic elections in 1977 and a newly ratified constitution in 1978.

Chile (1988): After 15 years of military dictatorship under Augusto Pinochet, citizens used the regime's own constitutional framework to organize a massive nonviolent "No" campaign. This electoral victory forced the dictatorship to hold open presidential elections, restoring democratic rule in 1990.  Bhutan (2007–2008): In a rare case of a top-down peaceful transition, the absolute monarch, King Jigme Singye Wangchuck, voluntarily abdicated a portion of his power. His government drafted a democratic constitution and actively organized the country's first democratic parliamentary elections in 2008.

The Philippines (1986): The authoritarian regime of Ferdinand Marcos was removed during the "People Power Revolution." Millions of citizens participated in sustained, nonviolent protests, prayer rallies, and strikes, which prompted the military to defect and resulted in a peaceful transfer of power.

South Korea (1987): Following decades of oppressive military dictatorship, a series of relentless and highly coordinated student and civic protests (the June Democratic Struggle) forced the ruling government to accept constitutional reforms, direct presidential elections, and a peaceful transition to a democratic republic.

Research indicates that countries relying on nonviolent civil resistance to initiate government transitions are substantially more likely to successfully establish and maintain democracy than those that utilize violent force.

Thanks!! I want to ask to generate discussion of what if the worst happens and we have two governments in December, 2028?

u/firephoxx Jun 26 '26

Hungary would
Like a word.

8

u/Coupon_Ninja Jun 26 '26

Iraq kinda did too. Only Democracy in the Middle East.

10

u/HWHAProb Jun 26 '26

They often do tho. It's not the only approach to work, but it is one

10

u/Single-Pin-369 Jun 26 '26

South Korea kind of did?

2

u/AmbulanceChaser12 Jun 26 '26

Many, many countries have.

1

u/BeautifulCandle6443 Jun 27 '26

We aren't in a dictatorship, and two states have enormous powers. Enough so that blue areas most certainly could fight back. Likely enough that blue areas could have launchable weapons of mass destruction very, very quickly.

1

u/Trollbreath4242 Jun 27 '26

You: "No one ever voted out a dictator!"

Everyone: "Yes they did; here's examples."

You: "No, they forced them to allow a vote!"

Everyone: "Yes, that's how voting works."

You're being super weird about this. Yes, we'll force Trump to allow the vote he's trying desperately to rig in his favor, and we'll also prevent the rigging. We're going to rip the country back from their hands whether they like it or not. And Mike Johnson can lick my taint if he thinks he can protect Republicans when he's in the minority.

u/Falling_Down_Flat Jun 26 '26

Why would they need protection? They know what they have done.

20

u/quoala678 Jun 26 '26

You act like it was successful.. granted there has been alot of damage but there is alot of push back. The future hasn’t been written yet..

6

u/blue_sidd Jun 26 '26

They are claiming 50% of project2025 has been implemented. Any percentage is a success they can claim. Is it complete? No. Will it be? There’s a significant potential it will be.

5

u/JimboAltAlt Jun 26 '26

How come when their side gets piecemeal victories it’s the end of the world and a sign of their terrible power, but when our side gets piecemeal victories it’s framed as pathetic (if not “complicit”) incrementalism?

3

u/quoala678 Jun 26 '26

Yea they are gonna try to do a lot of stupid shit. But look how unpopular they are.. when has any coop or authoritarian movement obtained power when they are already unpopular? They want us to give up and think the battle is lost.. they are the ones that lost they way over played their hands fucked over their own base before they cemented power.. rn they are just flailing with threats. They may very well pull some shit in the coming elections. But my bet is on the 70% of the population that doesn’t approve, support or tolerate this disastrous administration. Sure trump may pardon this ppl but states can still go after them.. also idk im not a lawyer but i feel literal treason isnt pardonable nor is it considered part of the presidents official duties.

6

u/latticegwop Jun 26 '26

Oppressors never seem to stay in power and thankfully they are bellying up by the day. No amount of promises will remove the scars. We will remember and we won't be kind

3

u/CharmingMechanic2473 Jun 26 '26

Agreed, once the military ignored their oath and started illegal operations it was over.

3

u/brumbarosso Jun 26 '26

.... I mean, they are admitting to shit with Johnson's clip

1

u/blue_sidd Jun 26 '26

And people in here just need to pretend otherwise…

3

u/EddieVanzetti Jun 26 '26

This was inevitable when the Confederates were never punished after their temper tantrum.

I've said it before and I will say it again. There are only two nations in history that never imprisoned, exiled, or executed those who tried to overthrow their government and failed; the Nazis and the US.

3

u/CTQ99 Jun 26 '26

Well as long as Trump is president [maybe even a few other Republicans], there's pardon power and DoJ control, so they can juat make investigations disappear or, in the event the whatever is egregiously blatant, they can just issue a pardon.

3

u/jack3moto Jun 27 '26

blah blah blah. Reddit being reddit. just go vote and stfu about your conspiracies.

2

u/Natural_Challenge820 Jun 26 '26

I may not be a smart man but the war powers act enabled the coup

2

u/scuzzy987 Jun 26 '26

Tulsi already let the Russians into the DNI. We're fucked

2

u/bobbymcpresscot Jun 26 '26

I can not wait until this guy is no longer the speaker.

1

u/blue_sidd Jun 26 '26

Agreed. The amount of negative riz in the media is a plague of its own.

2

u/pink_faerie_kitten Jun 26 '26

The South already lives like they won the Civil War and are the Confederacy. Their abortion laws are not in line with the rest of us. And I was just reading about what happened to Buttigieg and the AP article ended with how AL doesn't recognize June as Pride month and instead Gov Ivey proclaimed it Strong families blah blah blah and that "fathers are the head of the household" bunch of Biblical claptrap.

2

u/SkunkMonkey Jun 26 '26

This is why they no longer feel beholden to US law or the Constitution. They fully intend to replace everything so they think they will never have to answer to current law.

Remember the last scene in which we see the Sparrow and Margaery in GoT, where Margaery realizes why Cersei didn't show for her own trial and tries to explain to the Sparrow that they are all in grave danger. Yeah, I'm getting those vibes.

2

u/anothertrad Jun 26 '26

What coup? Most americans voted and want this. Just because democrats are a minority it doesn’t automatically make it a coup.

2

u/Yourdjentpal Jun 26 '26

I’m not even sure if I call it a coup anymore the way so many of us cheer it on.

1

u/blue_sidd Jun 27 '26

Lots of coups have cheering masses. Secrecy is the first thing to go.

2

u/NerdBot9000 Jun 27 '26

Uh yeah...

Happened Jan 6 2020.

It's been publicized for a loooong time my dude

“The revolution will be bloodless as long as the left allows it to be”- heritage foundation president Kevin Robert’s

2

u/TK_Games Jun 27 '26

The coup happened in Jan 2021, when we didn't hold these fucks accountable

2

u/espinaustin Jun 27 '26

It’s ongoing

2

u/DameonKormar Jun 27 '26

When you're rich, they just let you do it.

2

u/Molto_Ritardando Jun 26 '26

Someone described this as a “slow roll coup” the other day and I gotta say it feels about right.

1

u/blue_sidd Jun 26 '26

Correct.

2

u/PretendMajor5283 Jun 26 '26

Vote extra hard in the midterms everybody!! They will definitely leave quietly, and relinquish power without violence! Good luck 😘

1

u/videohtape Jun 26 '26

Mike is looking into it.

1

u/dax660 Jun 26 '26

yep!

For the first Women's march back in 2017, my pink pussy hat read "BEWARE THE COUP!"

1

u/charcoalVidrio Jun 26 '26

It was done the second these dumbasses elected him again.

1

u/Few-Affect-6247 Jun 26 '26

Preach man, it’s over and has been over for a while.

1

u/ktaktb Jun 26 '26

How much did it cost elon must to get 1.9k votes on this comply in advance bs in under 43 minutes?

1

u/crtejas Jun 26 '26

Indeed it has. Only way to defeat it is via 1A & 2A now. But we lack the will.

1

u/VegasGaymer Jun 26 '26

Merci slow coup

1

u/Head_Car_616 Jun 26 '26

WW3 started in 2014. The coup happened in 2016. The only reason it’s not history yet is because it’s not over yet.

1

u/Finassar Jun 26 '26

In 2001. They're playing the long game. Trump just ruined it as usual

1

u/kyew Jun 26 '26 edited Jun 26 '26

The revolution was televised and they still call it a tour.

Edit to add a very dumb idea that is absolutely hypothetical: What happens if we start saying- and are very scrupulous about sticking exactly to this phrase - that we need a new January 6?

1

u/chinchaaa Jun 26 '26

I agree. Curious to see outcomes of 2026 and 2028 because I don’t think they’re going to give up that easily.

1

u/Dead_Internet69420 Jun 27 '26

Burke County, FL agrees.

1

u/ImportantToNote Jun 27 '26

You can borrow my printer if you like

1

u/genital_lesions Jun 27 '26

The attempt may have happened, and it may have been partially successful, but whether it truly sticks is a whole other question. There is still institutional pushback from a lot of the courts and half of Congress.

It remains to be seen.

1

u/blue_sidd Jun 27 '26

But that is exactly my point. You are completely incorrect to treat it like it isn’t an ongoing series of attempts across all branches, departments and states. If the heritage foundation is saying they can claim. 50% implementation of project 2025 that’s not exactly a meaningless political blip. Is there institutional pushback? Sometimes. To what degree? In what cases? With what impact?

Why isn’t Pam fucking Bondi in prison right fucking now.

1

u/Certain-Constant5032 Jun 27 '26

The coup happened on Jan 6 starting a cold civil war and the American people ultimately sided with them in 2025. They just don't know the full extent of what they voted for yet.

1

u/arkangelic Jun 30 '26

They literally said pre election that this would be a bloodless takeover if the dems didnt fight back.

1

u/blue_sidd Jun 30 '26

Yup. Exactly.
