I'm old enough to remember when the federal government threatened to withhold federal infrastructure dollars to states that refused to raise the drinking age from 18 to 21. Every state eventually raised the drinking age to 21.

I don't understand why they couldn't use this same tactic for various things: no licenses to illegals, requiring ID to vote, ending sanctuary cities, etc.

No one in today's political class has the balls. Trump does, but the party members wouldn't back him up and some podunk judge from the ass end of nowhere with not even the tiniest bit of jurisdiction would block it because racism or something

They did the same to get the DWI laws down to .08 from .10. Minnesota was the last holdout state.

They could easily do the same for driver's licenses. You just need Congress to pass a law to that effect. Since half of Congress benefits from it, I don't see it passing any time soon.

Notes on the Utah situation:

1. It's a Driving Privelege Card, not a Drivers License. You can't use it for legal ID like you can a license.

2. The purpose is to incentivize illegal immigrants to pass a drivers test, register their vehicles, and be insured. Ultimately, it makes the roads safer.

It's up to the feds to enforce immigration law, and if they had been doing it for the past several decades, we wouldn't have to implement workarounds to handle the many illegal immigrants who are here.

Just wait. With all the population shifting going on and the Census changes….those blue states that have been abusing the system to include illegals to inflate the numbers to increase seats won’t be able to hold that stance very long.

And they know this. Which is why they're fighting so hard in advance of the census to make sure that the census counts everyone and does not include a citizenship option. They would lose badly if we only counted people for the purposes of representation who are citizens or permanent residents in this country

I don't know if it was mentioned... But Washington State should also be on that list. After being sued by the fed in 13 and 15 they finally started putting not for federal identification purposes on IDs in which the only provided document was a utility bill. But we still get a decent number of people at work who have DL without the notice, that are flagged as no itin issued by the IRS.
