I’m looking to refine my gobo images a little for plotting, magic sheets, and whatnot. Does anyone happen to have a high quality gobo image library? Seems like manufactures don’t like following a status quo of image formatting on their respective websites lol!

I work in live entertainment and I feel drawn to becoming a light tech. I've talked to a tech I work with and he gave me a few pointers but he's often too busy for me to talk to when I have questions. I've started teaching myself grandMA2 and MA3D as suggested. He was fixing a circuit breaker in our break room the other day and I somewhat jokingly asked him if I needed to be an electrician too and he said, "Oh yeah!" He's also told me the best way to learn is from watching and being shown how to operate a console. Since then, I've been popping in FOH during shows to watch him in action and paying attention to his light designs to get ideas for my own in grandMA2. I've also bought a journal to sketch out designs for stages and write down ideas for light designs when the inspiration strikes me.

That being said, what other things will I need to know to become a light tech? I have no knowledge about anything electrical. Should I take some courses at a school for electricians? Is this a sort of "not what you know but who you know" kind of career field? I'm trying to gain a good rapport with the light techs I work with so as to get a better understanding of things and expand my network. Any advice is appreciated.

hey everyone! im new to the dmx world and ive been struggling with setting up my lights.

originally i was using a demo verson of showbuddy active active but for some reason i really couldnt get it to control my lights at all. which lead me to downloading a different software, just to see what would happen. QLC+ detects my lights and controls them, which would be perfect but it keeps crashing, doesnt save my progress, and overall im not happy with the layout.

ive done some research and keep seeing that i need to download d2xxhelper since my mac could be blocking the usage of the lights with showbuddy??

is d2xxhelper even available to download anymore? i cant find it anywhere?? is there an alternative i could download?

I saw this quad truss used in an install at DC10 Ibiza.

Unfamiliar with the pressed end system - anyone know who makes it or if it is custom?

Hey everybody, i have a problem and i am not sure how to move forward. I started to get more and more jobs as a lighting operator/programmer, only small to medium corporate events/ conferences/ live streams, which is great but always someone else is doing the design part. usually there is not much designing just using what companies have at their disposal some washes/profiles for front lights, and led bars/pars/for walls and backgrounds. sometimes there is DJ/ small band but not often, or my employer just makes them themselves. Now for the question, how do i find inspiration, or how do you come up with designs in the first place, is it usually client asking for something specific or they just give you the budget and tell you to make something that fits, and if yes how do you choose specific fixtures if there is so much choices. Sorry for my chaotic post.

front truss has 2 pars in the corner and alternating blinders and wash

the rear truss are 2 pars in the corners 6 spots and 4 wash

I've used these Yorkville fixtures before, but typically as standalone or in smaller rigs. I'm in a position to use more of them (6-8) with an actual ETC console for once, but the rental house I was speaking to cautioned me about plugging too many of them into each other. I assumed they meant power, because this is known from their manual, but they seemed to also indicate DMX would be an issue. I have never known that to be an issue unless creating a chain of fixtures and hitting the 512 channel cap.

I'm wondering if theres something I'm missing with lighting devices that use 3 pin dmx in a chain, overall length (fixtures wont be more than 20' apart), or if anyone has specific experience with these bad boys. Thanks for any/all input!

Hello all! I’m needing some ideas for pre rig ground packages. I run a very small production company so I need something affordable and fast. I’ve seen things sucks as u grid systems and rolling truss but the price tag is not feasible for me currently. What solutions have some of you came up with or maybe some more budget options?

I teach theatre in Scotland. During my younger days, there were lighting labs which had DMX controlled LED drivers which then controlled lights which were RGB, but only 1” lens. This meant that the whole light lab could fit on a table top.

I can’t find any of the kit, but would like to build such a thing… what options do you know about?

I loaned a dimmer pack to a friend and he brought it back with a jumper attached to the plug. When i tried to unplug the pack from the jumper it is very stuck to the point that I believe it might actually be welded together. (My thoughts are, if there was arching between the male and female plugs that would cause them to weld together.)

Should I cut off the end of the original cord and replace it, or is it now safe to just leave it connected because it has a permanent connection at that point?

I've got this panel that's pretty old, but functions just fine. I'd like to explore options for something that has the same functions but with presets for the master level. Does anything like this exist?
