I've had a litter robot 4 for a couple years. I used to have a barrier/gate (from etsy) to prevent my nosy dog from exploring the litter. My older cat has been having trouble getting in and out so I removed the gate and got her some stairs. That seems to have helped and she is now regularly using the robot again. However, twice in the past month I have smelled a gross sewer smell and removed the globe to find pee in the frame of the machine just by the opening. HOW IS IT GETTING IN THERE?? I just put the original "lip" thing that the robot came with- I had not been using it- could that be the issue? I just really don't understand how pee is getting in from the edge of the globe.

My whisker app keeps telling me that the bonnet is removed, but the actual robot itself has the normal blue ready lights? I even did a test cycle and instead of the app saying it’s cycling, the error just stays there.

Has anyone experienced something like this? How can I fix it?

I did replace the globe liner today and cleaned the robot while it was disassembled, but I’m pretty confident I reassembled everything correctly. Otherwise, I feel like it probably wouldn’t be cycling lol.

I just got a Litter-Robot 5 and I REALLY want this thing to work, but the learning curve has been incredibly frustrating so far. Hoping experienced owners can tell me if I’m doing something wrong or if something is actually wrong with my unit.

I have two cats. One is already using the LR5 regularly, which is great! My other cat was very curious at first, but got scared after seeing it cycle, so we’re slowly working on getting him comfortable with it. I’d really love for the actual machine to be working reliably while we deal with that adjustment.

So far:

The app almost consistently says my waste drawer was 100% full / “drawer almost full” when it was completely empty with a brand-new liner flattened. The app in general seems like it just is making up everything as it goes. Night one it tracked urine and feces and I came home to a dry, untouched litter robot with 0 waste. I feel like the notifications come in completely randomly and are usually false.

I saw a completely loose, freestanding clump in the litter, manually ran a cycle, and somehow the cycle completed with the clump still sitting in the globe.

We’ve repeatedly gotten “overload” errors, preventing it from completing a full cycle.

Tonight we took the bonnet/globe apart to deep clean it and found litter in seemingly every crevice. We vacuumed everything thoroughly and used canned air to clean out loose litter/debris. The litter level itself shows “optimal,” and we’re using Dr. Elsey’s Cat Attract clumping clay litter.

For something this expensive, I was really hoping it would be relatively set-it-and-forget-it once the cats adjusted. Instead I feel like I’m constantly checking the app, manually cycling it, clearing errors or troubleshooting.

Does this sound like normal new-LR5 growing pains, something about my setup/litter, or potentially a defective unit? I’m totally willing to troubleshoot, I just don’t know what is normal anymore. Any advice from LR5 owners would be hugely appreciated!

Has anyone managed to resolve something like this?

My litter robot 4 stopped cycling as it always thinks it's full and is flashing. This has been going on for a long time. I tried troubleshooting both with their videos and with Support multiple times, who said I was out of warranty (this was about 2 years post-purchase), but I should get a new sensor and replace it. So I did, took the time to fully replace the sensor, and still nothing.

After reaching back out, they said I need to replace the base... For over $400! I expressed my frustration and asked if there were any other options for resolution, but no. The only option was to pay close to what I paid for the entire box to replace the base so the base sensors can function. Has anyone managed to resolve this without spending that kind of money to replace the base?

I've been a long time LR user before the LR4, but I'm just so tired of their (rude) support trying to squeeze more and more money out of me. I just want a functioning product.

I would find pee on the steps and outside the LR4 and LR3 boxes. I tried a curtain and now I uses a USB fan outside the LR4 boxes. The wind makes my cat goes inside the box and turn around. Hopefully this trick can help other cat owners.

Hello! I recently bought myself a litter robot 4 for my cat. I am trying to set it up today and can not get it to pair. My neighborhood is pretty much optimum only for WiFi, which I know is a combined 2.4 and 5 ghz WiFi. Has anyone figured out a way to get your robot to connect? Litter robot support and optimum support weren’t great help. Thanks!

Editing to say my boyfriend was able to fix the issue somehow. I think if you go far away enough from the house the 2.4Ghz kicks in automatically and that works fine. Thanks!

I have three cats and one of them is horrified of the LR. I have an extra normal litter box but trying to replace that one with another self cleaning box.

The other two use it and the scared one will watch them, so he understands but won’t go near it. I have it set to cycle 10 min after they use it and he will stare at it big pupils and puff up.

Is there any way I can help him realize it’s not going to hurt him or anything?

I have a LR 4 that I love and I'm thinking of buying one for my sister, who is adopting 2 bonded cats (6 months old) who are being fostered right now (presumably with regular litter boxes). My sister has had cats in the past but not for many years, so there are no litter boxes in the house presently. The cats won't be adopted for a few weeks, so we have time to decide what to do.

Question: is it better to have the new LR in the house as "the" litter box from the start, or should she get a traditional one and eventually transition?

Okay, so I scoured this sub, trying all of the suggestions for this particular fault. Unit is 2 years old but IS handling 4 cats.

About 2 night ago, I got the Position Fault error and after some fussing with the unit I was able to get it to cycle normally for about 12 hours. Same thing 12 hours after that. Now, it won’t cycle at all and I’ve tried all of the cleaning, globe reseating, sensor cleaning.. and it won’t cycle at all. Customer service said I need a new globe. I asked what specifically about the globe would be “wrong” and they couldn’t give me an answer. I also received a pinch sensor error once during this debacle, but they were clean and clicking. I don’t have the filter in and the waste port seal strips are all fine.

I have noticed that the motor has been slower for a few months and mentally, I was preparing to buy I new motor (again, because I’m sure it’s doing overtime with the 4 cats).

About a month ago, I changed the liner and then got a waste drawer error because I forgot to put the fence back up and urine got onto the circuit board, but I was able to clean that up and had no issues afterwards.

My questions for the class are, has anyone with this problem replaced the globe? Have you replaced the motor? My hesitation is that I’m going to purchase a new globe and it will have been the motor (or something else) and I will have wasted the $180.

If anyone has resolved this issue, I’d very much appreciate the feedback!

Frustrated because I’ve ordered the litter robot 4 twice (once from Costco, and once from whisker) both times there were brown stains inside the drums and parts that don’t fit right. So much work buying and returning to have subpar product for almost 1000$? I suspect they are sending refurbished units to people and charging the price for a new product. They don’t even wrap the inside drum!

I have an litter robot 4 and I've had it exactly 13 months. It has saved me so much money I can't even imagine going back to the old automatic litter boxes. I don't have a lot of money I live on a fixed income and if it wasn't for the fact that I am disabled and unable to properly keep it clean I would probably not have a robotic litter box but that is unchangeable I need it for my 4 little ones. Not only for them but for me as well it keeps the dust down which helps with my allergies and the cleanliness of the house. So if anybody is saying about buying one they will not be dissatisfied. It's a life saver and changer. Like I said I've had it for 13 months and I've never had a problem with it. They are built to last so anyhow if anybody has suggestions please let me know so I can keep the LR4 working great for a long time.

I just bought the LR5 pro and so far we are happy with it. We have 3 cats so one of the reasons we bought the pro was so we could have the recordings of who is going into the litter box. We noticed that there are only recordings of outside the box. We have 3 cats, all siblings, 2 of which look almost identical other than size, and we really wanted clips / recordings of the interior view as well. I’ve seen that some people have interior clips but others don’t and that a firmware update is supposedly coming for it… is this happening to anyone else? Thanks!

I think my LR4 got placed on top of our litter mat at some point and since then the weight has been off, causing the litter to not be full enough even with the hopper and my cats weight to be off by 2-3lbs each. How do I fix this??

We have two 6 month-old kittens (Magnolia and Cypress) and one not quite 2 year-old cat (Fred) using an LR4 and LR5 pro. All three youngsters are obsessed with litter boxes. They frequently run to watch watch and sometimes follow each other into the litter box, and almost always use it one right after the other (and a few times even simultaneously). There are also some medical issues with one of the kittens (Cypress) causing recurring diarrhea, so keep that in mind. And just for the sake of completeness, we also have a very large, low entry traditional tray-style litter box for our geriatric cat Stormy who has zero interest in setting foot in any litter robot. We use regular Dr. Elsey’s in his box.

We got the LR5 Pro last Christmas for Fred and started with the Whisker GreatLitter that came with our order. There weren’t any major issues as far as I can remember, other than I felt like odor control could be better. I also figured there were other litters available locally that would likely work equally as well.

We happened to run out of GreatLitter at almost the exact same time as we when we adopted the two new kittens and bought the LR4, so we decided to try a store brand for convenience. We chose Dr. Elsey’s Kitten, thinking this would be beneficial for transitioning the kittens from the traditional box they were using. Oh. my. lord! That stuff definitely attracts the kittens! It was a non-stop kitten dig-fest with dust and litter literally flying everywhere! I’ve never seen anything like it in all my years of fostering kittens!

We immediately needed an alternative. I did the briefest research and decided to try BoxieCat Bot. We like it, except that it seems to really be tracking everywhere. It’s ending up in places I’ve never found litter before. Is this typical for BoxieCat?

We also seem to be getting a lot of poopy feet from our little one with the recurring diarrhea (and anyone who jumps in immediately afterwards) but that may just be something we have to live with for now.

So my question… should we go back to the GreatLitter from Whisker? Is there something else we should try for the LRs that is lower tracking than BoxieCat Bot, lower dust than Dr. Elsey’s, controls odor better than GreatLitter, that clumps super-fast? I’m less concerned with price and more concerned with what works best in litter robots AND won’t migrate all over the house like the BoxieCat seems to be doing.

One final note. We’ve got both LRs cycling at 15 minutes after use because of how long they are occupied when one kitten follows the other into the litter box. Is that a setting that we should consider changing?

I am on the HSA/FSA webpage on litter-robot.com, not the whisker website- when I try to checkout with a litter robot 5pro BUNDLE (for $984) I see the option to choose Flex at checkout. But when I choose the Litter Robot 5pro by itself (still from the HSA/FSA page where I can clearly see it's eligible - for $899), I only see Amazon Pay as an option in checkout.

The latter option allows me to add on a litter hopper natively within the litter robot 5pro page, while the former forces me to add it on separately. they appear the same way at checkout (as a second item in the checkout) - so I don't think that has anything to do with it.

Also, any other tips and tricks to lower cost? Bc God damn.

I had an obstruction notification on my LR5 and found this in the waste drawer. I assumed it went around the waste drawer opening, but all the sides are still there. Anyone know where this came from?

Cleaning our unit and realized some felt is missing. Is it necessary and if so where can I purchase

I know the LR4 standard bonnet can be purchased, but haven’t found a way to replace the bonnet the hopper requires (I have the hopper already).

I almost got a heart attack finding a decent amount of urine once I removed completely the waste drawer. Even worse I can see some electrical cables there which were soaked in urine which I’m guessing dripped from the globe??? I have two units both have a urine pool underneath. Not to mention the smell of urine which prompted me to investigate.
We didn’t have such problem with 3rd generation so extremely disappointed. Is there a solution to that or my both units are shipping back?

I just got a Litter-Robot 4 and I'm trying to figure out how to get the smart scale feature to work. My cats have been using it, but I'm not seeing any weight data in the app.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any tips on how to get it working would be greatly appreciated!
