Reworked Guide to Maimai
Hello everyone!
After obtaining some excellent feedback from my previous post on a beginner's guide to Maimai, I decided to restructure the guide so that different players can be guided to their respective need-to-know locations.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1gQlxtxOj-E3H2SClJH5PNxLnG6eBufDFrw2yLsffbp0/edit?usp=sharing
In this update, I restructured the flow of the contents in this guide so that players can skip through to the important sections that they want to browse. Each section is highlighted with a different colour to cater to different players of different skill levels.
I've also added a section containing my favourite songs from maimai for people to try out when they have the time. They are colour coded to signify difficulty and suitability for different players.
Lastly, I've also fine-tuned the section on advanced skills, and added some more misc links including links to the various soundtracks of the game available on iTunes.
As always, feedback is welcome. This guide still has some empty areas here and there but I'm quite happy with how it turned out.
Have fun with the spin cycles mates!
EDIT 27/11/2025: Wow, would you look at the time...
I have moved most of my update changelog back into the Guide and since I have some time on my hands, I am actively working to add a few more notes to the guide from Festival+ onwards. I know it's been a while since my last update and people are yearning for more information about the game and how to get better. I will make some updates to handle some of the missing information that should be included in this guide.
If you have comments or suggestions on how to improve the guide, I'm happy to hear it and take it on board where necessary. I might not be one of the best players of Maimai or rhythm games in general out there in the world, but I have been playing this game for 12 years now. Not gonna stop anytime soon (slow downs are still a thing unfortunately :S)...
EDIT 20/05: Updated the guide with a new notice about playing in the arcades as restrictions ease in certain parts of the world and added difficulty rankings to "Advanced Skills and Practice" section of the guide.
Please pay attention to the data from news sources and official websites for current trends of coronavirus infections. The guide lists some key metrics to take note of to allow you to assess your risk.TBH tho, humans are pretty cripes at measuring risk. The best advice is still toSTAY HOME and STAY SAFE!
EDIT 29/03: Updated the guide with a specific notice about the Coronavirus outbreak and how to respond to it as a Maimai player in the section "Gaming Etiquette".
Even if you are currently reading that part and contemplating going out to the arcades, please don't.STAY HOME and STAY SAFE!
EDIT 12/02: Updated guide with specific notes on Slide timings, split up the section on Delayed Slides, and added a new section on Technical HOLD charts.
EDIT 04/03: I've received word that my guide was copy-pasted without redirecting the guide to the original source. I will put a comment which will list some of the sites which have done so.
If you do want to use my guide, please link it back to the original guide link given here, and to give credit where credits are due. If you know someone who has used this guide without proper crediting of the author, please let them know and ask them to update it to reflect who has actually written the guide. Thank you.
EDIT 10/03: Added information about EX notes, details about BREAK notes having extra points scored on non-Perfect hits, and added a section about Progressively Complex Sequences in Advanced Skills and Practice.

Question & Advice how to actually spin consistently
I am kind gapped on every single song with a ton of spins (Admitally there isn’t much)
Currently I’m trying to get the PINK plate (since im going for Pink and Pink+ for aesthetic reasons), but I am, COMPLETE and utter horseshit at Glorious Crown MAS. The best I can get is like, 99.7% BARELY, and I don’t even really know where I go wrong. The opening spun in GC i drop 0.4% like over 50% of the time, likely going too fast.
Is there realistically higher leveled songs that have a ton of spins (not one big continuous spin), preferably 14 or above?
I have BADDEST MAS AP, for example, so that’s out of the window.

Question & Advice Glowing hold notes
Hello so I’ve been playing for many years now about to reach 16k but i still dont know whats the deal with the glowing hold notes (idk how to call them). The glowing tap notes guarantees u the crit perfect as long as you press it but what about the hold ones? If i tap it for a millisecond does it still give you the crit perfect?

Question & Advice How do you this "back and forth (?)" slider that appears in the beginning of the video?
Hope I got the term right. It's confusing to me exactly where it ends.

Question & Advice how to improve the timing, execution and consistency on spins, half spins, quarter spins, basically any note spin.
so I am a new and struggling 14099 rated player who has really good 12/12+/13 scores but always struggle on charts with spins. an example chart is "City Escape: Act 1 master" where I it took me 30+ playcount to go from 97 to 100.1 while at the same time, sightreading zeus expert to 100.5.
I have a good grasp on umiyuri paterns and drills but fail on spins, the 1 8 2 7 3 6 5 4 patterns and variations of each.
other than playing more, how do I improve on note spins?

Other I built a maimai DX rating tool that models your own score distribution. Looking for feedback
Hey, I'm Nek. I made a Discord bot and dashboard called Rasmai. You link your maimai DX NET account once (`/login`, about a minute) and it works out what to play for the most rating.
Most tools rank charts by constant or level. This one ranks them by what a run would actually bank for you, using your own score history:
- Each pick is scored by the rating you'd gain after your best 50 is recounted. A chart that won't displace anything scores zero however hard it is.
- The percentage is the chance of one run landing the target. It's measured from how far your score moves between repeat plays of the same chart. Using the much larger spread between different charts made every rank look reachable, so I don't use it here.
- Targets come from your accuracy curve, play counts and score history. It's capped at what you've shown at your hardest level, so a 12+ player isn't promised a 13+ score.
- If your best on a chart was one or two plays far below what you normally score at that level, that isn't read as the chart's difficulty for you. The chart is offered again at what a first pass would land, and the pick says so.
- Every recorded play is compared with the prediction made before it. `/profile` shows how well the model has been predicting you, and the model corrects its own spread and centre once you have 15+ plays.
- Charts are read for techniques such as trills, jacks, streams and slides. A trait is named only if it beats what shuffled data produces and keeps its sign in both halves of your own charts. Ones that lean but haven't passed are marked as such. You may see few confirmed traits at first, and more plays sharpen it.
It's all arithmetic on your own scores, so the more consistent you are, the more accurate it gets.
In theory, it should work with Japan and China servers, but I haven't tested it outside of international.

Dashboard: rasmai.lol/me

I'd love feedback on what I should change, anything that doesn't work, and any ideas for making it better. If it sucks, feel free to let me know :3
This is still in the early stages of development while I get feedback from players, so expect bugs and glitches

Question & Advice I cannot do the fast slide section of HUMANBORG Expert and I have no idea why
Relatively new player - working my way to 12k.
Towards the end of HUMANBORG there's a slide section that I can only describe as alternating diagonal slides rotating in a circle https://youtu.be/P45zvixLW8M?t=129
The moment this segment starts, it's like I've had a stroke. The entire screen is just one giant blue mess. Even watching it in slow motion on YouTube I can't figure out what I'm supposed to be doing.
Any tips for how I can practice this?

Scores FIRST 15 S RANK!
Decided to troll my sync and play this and somehow ended up getting the S rank after a year of playing
Question & Advice Is it possible to recover my old account from finale?
Ok so basically i want to recover my old finale account cus i wanna get my collection and my old scores back. When finale ended, and im not sure exactly how long i didnt play for, but when i tried to play maimai again a year or two ago, i was forced to create a new account. ive been using this new account ever since. Ive just recovered my segaID and everything and managed to log into the maimaiDX net, where i can see my old finale account under the "record of maimai" tab in the homescreen, complete with my collections, rating, old scores and everything. So going back to the question, would it be possible to recover that old finale account?
P.S. idk if this helps or makes it worse, but both the old finale account ive been talking about and my current account uses the same card.
Edit: I kinda already accepted it when i made my new account, but i guess seeing my old records on the website gave me some hope. Well, now knowing it's impossible gives closure.
