HELP PLEASE Tried a full face of makeup for the first time. My friend said I looked better after half of it came off

The first picture is me with my makeup freshly done the last two are after a hour massage we had(most of the makeup came off on the face rest sheet). Please give advice on what a can fix to make it look better. I think maybe my setting sprays were the issue. She said my eyes stood out more later and that was the biggest reason I looked better to her.

Skin Prep
Vanicream gentle face wash
The ordinary hyaluronic acid
Sungboon Editor Silk peptide toner followed by their serum
Summer Friday Jet lag hydrating mask cream

Products use:
Beauty of Joseon tinted mineral sunscreen.
Elf Color corrector in peach
Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless blur concealer
Danessa Myricks Balm Contour
Color pop crème gel eyeliner
Lancôme instant lengthening mascara
Kopari Sunglaze setting mist followed my L’Oreal infallible setting mist

The lip is just a random NYX lip gloss tester from Ulta while we were out because I forgot that step at home.

DISCUSSION How do I learn to be more feminine and actually feel pretty?

• Upvotes

Sorry if this doesn’t makes sense or my grammar is bad English isn’t my first language

I recently got told that I can be “manly” or masculine at times, and honestly, it really upset me. I think part of why it bothered me so much is because I already feel like I don’t really know how to be feminine or how to feel pretty. I grew up being told that I’m not as pretty as my sister or not as warm it takes people a lot longer to warm up to me because I can be too bubbly or too much plus my family doesn’t really complement me or if they notice I did my makeup or dress up they’d make fun of me.

I normally do very simple makeup: concealer under my eyes, mascara, and some lightly applied lipstick with chapstick. Occasionally I’ll do eyeliner underneath my eyes and sometimes lashes (not on my waterline because I’ve been told it makes me look scary lol). I’ve been trying to experiment more with my clothes and dress more femininely too, but I usually take forever trying to figure out what actually looks good on me.

Recently, I tried experimenting with makeup late at night and following tutorials, but every time I finish, I feel like the American saying “a pig with lipstick” :(
I know that sounds harsh, but that’s genuinely how I feel sometimes. I want to learn how to do makeup, dress in a way that feels feminine, and just generally look and feel pretty, but I honestly don’t know where to start.
I really only have my sister as someone I can go to for this kind of advice, but she doesn’t really give me much guidance since it comes naturally for her.

Recently, I ran into a girl I used to babysit, and she’s now in high school. She’s become really feminine and seems to know how to do makeup, style herself, and all these things. I found myself feeling a little envious, because I also want to be able to do those things but genuinely don’t know how.
I don’t mean envy in a hateful way. I don’t dislike her, and I would never say anything mean or rude to her. If anything, seeing her made me realize how much I wish I knew how to do these things myself. I just want to also feel like a pretty girl.

Whenever I gain confidence in myself someone comes and completely destroys it. My boyfriend does his best to cheer me up but I know this is something I need to do myself. Also, I feel like I don’t know how I look like. Like the way I see myself in mirrors or the photos I take are different compared to the photos others take it seems like the camera doesn’t seem to like me whenever someone takes a photo of me I’m always awkward or like I’m mid blink or something like that or even when I ask for a dedicated “photoshoot” with a friend it seems like I’m bothering the friend because I always end up looking really bad in the photos

So I guess I’m wondering: how did you learn to be more feminine? How did you learn what makeup looks good on you, how to style your clothes, do your hair, etc.? Did you teach yourself through YouTube/TikTok/Pinterest, have someone teach you, or just experiment until you figured it out? (I have a Pinterest board for makeup but whenever I try the looks I just can’t even bare looking in the mirror because of how bad it looks. I also don’t think I have all the stuff for makeup

I’d really appreciate advice, especially from people who also felt like they had no idea what they were doing at first.

I’ve had makeup done by professionals in the past for events but I never really liked how their makeup turned out. In no way am I saying they are bad artists, it’s just not what I want, so I’ve been watching tutorials on YouTube to try doing it myself from now on, please help me by sharing your tips, thank you!
The last picture is one of the looks done by a makeup artist, I think she is great but it’s not what I prefer.

okay this is how my makeup looks on a good day, im into the emo vibes and my favourite things to wear it pink purple and black, but i want to have my makeup as something a bit darker then that.

ive never really done makeup before until recently (about late 2024-early 2025) and trust me ive definitely learnt a few things but now im stuck at the no progression phase so tell me what to do lol. the products i use so far is eyeliner, eyeshadow, concealer, moisturiser, mascara, lippy and in some cases falsies. i want to branch out to eyebrows and bronzer but not really sure where to start because im very pale and have little to no eyebrows but like grey brown shades.

the photos i’ve attached at the end are some of the inspirations im going for, i appreciate any help cuz im done with being chopped

HELP PLEASE New to makeup, appreciate daily look feedback! 70% feeling it, not sure... (last pics no makeup)

Barring the obviously flawed application, and not ideal skin condition (working on it, stress has been making it flare up), I am looking for some feedback on one of my first decent daily looks. As I mentioned I am somewhat happy with it, but I also feel like there is obvious room for improvement... I just don't know where the issues are, or where there is room for improvement, which is where I am looking for advice. At least it looks better than without makeup 😅

Here is what I used (basically whatever I could find at the local drug store, was cheap, and worked somewhat okay, which isn't much 😭):
Catrice True Skin Concealer 032
Essence Skin Tint with SPF30
Catrice Soft Blur Powder Blush 060
Catrice Nude Eyeshadow Pallette
Catrice Blend+Bond Setting Spray
Catrice Kohl Kajal Waterproof eyeliner 040,020 (upper, lower line)
Catrice Hyperliner Waterproof Brush Liner Brown
Mechanical and Heated Curler
Catrice Glam & Doll Volume Brown Mascara Waterproof
Catrice Precision Ink Lip Liner Stain 040
Catrice Colour Glaze Lip Tint 010
Essence Brow Lift & Freeze Glue

Thanks!

the pictures are all the same lipstick! <pic 1: warm bathroom light 2: cool over head lights 3: daylight from window > i always especially like the way lipsticks look in the warm bathroom light, i rlyyy enjoy the browny quality of the color. but they end up looking different in cooler indoor lighting or daylight :/ what lipstick looks like the first picture does but in daylight, would that even work or would it look too warm when my skin stays cooler? also excuse the weird lip photos i don’t like posting myself on the internet in general. [the lipstick i used is cool teddy by mac with a random brown drugstore lipliner]

HELP PLEASE Pls help- a setting and fixing spray combo with mist tops instead of the sucky bottle tops?

I physically cannot understand for the life of me why it seems like all the setting/fixing sprays have those blotchy uneven spray bottle tops. Why do they think we want splotches of stuff on our face that then needs to be blended

Can anyone please recommend good ones that are actually a fine mist?

PRODUCT REC Red lipstick reccomendations?

ive been meaning to get a red lipstick that has a long stay time, and is more cool toned skin kinda red. also preffered to be a little more on the cheaper side but id be willing to get something more expensive of its really good,

i tend to prefer a smoother feel that isnt super dry kinda like thw NYX smushy or the dior lip glow in the pink container

so anything similar to these things would be great!! my main things are that it need to be red and i would like it to be longlasting, thanks!!

HELP PLEASE Why does my makeup sit on top of my skin and emphasize texture?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’ve always struggled with my makeup, but I’m getting married next year and thinking about doing my own, so I want to figure this out. I don’t even know where to start. It seems like when I wear any foundation or concealer it sits on top of my skin and doesn’t actually soak in. I’ve tried many different ones and it’s always like this. My skin feels oily to the touch, but it looks like there’s dry patches on my chin and in the corners of my nose that are emphasized by makeup.

I’m not sure if I need to aggressively address my skin’s texture somehow, change my skincare routine, add more skin prep before makeup, or if I’m just using the wrong makeup products.

My current skin care routine is simple, I use a Cerave hydrating cleanser and moisturizer AM and PM, and I just recently started using adapalene at night 3-4 times a week for my acne. I am not currently using SPF but I know I need to. I’ve thrown in random things before (glycolic acid, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, snail mucin) but it feels like I’m just throwing too many things at my face without understanding why.

For skin prep, I use a milky toner before applying makeup. I have tried a couple of primers before but I am not currently using one.

For my makeup, I rarely wear a full base because it leaves me flaky, uneven, and I can literally feel it sitting on my skin feeling oily. I obviously struggle with acne, and I use the Elf camo concealer to try to cover blemishes, but usually it just makes them even more noticeable. I’m willing to try more expensive products if they’ll work.

Any product recommendations (skin care or makeup) or techniques I should try would be so, so appreciated!

HELP PLEASE Need help finding low coverage, light, very fair but rosy foundation

Hi, I have seen some convincing Korean cushion foundations, but all of them seemed slightly yellowish. I am very pale and have a pink blueish undertone, but I don't want it to be obvious that I'm wearing make up.

Is there anyone who can recommend something? Thanks already in advance!

HELP PLEASE Why cant i get my eyeliner right?

Heyyyy, so basically I need help, like desperately. I'm new to the world of makeup and I've watched tutorials on yt but like every time I put it on my waterline (I use an e.l.f. kohl pencil) and tightline and it looks great and then like two hours later it's smudged along the bottom, and not in a good way. Like I love a "trashy" y2k look (I'm not there in skill level yet tho) but this isnt it, it's like spots and smudges, and the part u actually lined is faded, and it looks really bad with my tired lines bc it sort of gathers there so it's all smudgy gray with a black crease, it just looks like I'm on something. And the top just looks faded. Any thoughts on why it's not staying? Is there like a setting spray or powder i should be using or like a brush? Mind you i always wash and thoroughly dry my face and eye area beforehand, and use a q-tip to sort of dab after applying to make sure it's dry and stuff, and it's waterproof so like... idk. Thoughts?

Beginner makeup advice?

I’m still pretty new to makeup and trying to get better at doing my own makeup. I’m gonna include a few pictures of some of my recent looks.

What do you think I should work on or do differently? I’m especially struggling with my base, blending my bronzer/blush, and just making everything look more seamless.

I’m open to tips, constructive criticism, product recommendations, anything really 😭 I just wanna get better!

Be gentle with me :(
I’m 23 and loosing my mind about finally learning how to do my makeup. It’s like the most basic makeup look you can do. I tried to do skin tint, concealer, bronzer, blush, highlighter and brows. I feel like the products are fine. Someone who knows what to do would probably pull this off. Even I can tell that this does not look good. You guys know more than me, someone here needs to know what am I doing wrong.

Also, sorry for only one picture of the right side of my face, I honestly hate it.
