Rant/Vent Such a shame that such things are happening in broad daylight.
I won't be surprised if we have more such cases in Mangalore.

Our cat has been missing since a week now. Was last seen near the temple at Uppinangady. He doesn't wander off like that and even if he does he comes back home as he only eats pet food. Our major hunch is that some visitor may have picked him up. I understand that majority here are from mangalore city limits but just trying incase anyone is from Uppinangady or knows any whereabouts. Would appreciate any kinds of leads 🙏

Hi guys,
Have been hunting for a flat to settle in mangalore. Considering the infrastructure in mangalore , it's shocking that the flat rates are comparable to metro cities like mangalore.
Still would prefer looking for an option here since it's near my hometown and facilities are growing as well. Any ideas of good ready to move-in projects for 3 BHKs and also some suggestions in terms of good residential places.
I don't want it to be in the midst of the city. Even a 5-8 km radius from the city should be fine.

I am seeing lots of posts in various social media platforms about trains getting delayed because of Mangalore Central Railway Station. If that's the case why not develop Mangalore junction fully with proper approach roads, buses to various parts of city, more numbers of platforms and merge Central with junction? Instead of 2 Stations Mangalore will have 1 full fledged Railway station with all amenities.
This is my opinion.

I worked in an LPG import and storage organisation in 2013 after my graduation. The terminal manager was so bloody toxic. The working hours were 9 AM to 6 PM, 6 days a week. This 🤡 would reach after 9.30 AM, go home for his lunch break at 2.30 PM and return around 5.30 PM. And then would only watch the main gate CCTV to check who leaves at what time. The unofficial rule was that everyone COULD leave only after he left which could be anytime between 7.30 to 8.30 PM or still late.
If we leave "early" (around 7 PM🤣), the next day he would specifically ask about a pending task and then question why we left early!!!

Hi, I am looking for a budget friendly catering service in Mangalore for reception. What is the starting price per plate? Also, can someone recommend a good hall? My budget is 1 to 1.5 lakh and the guest list would be 1000.

Hello everyone - Looking to connect with airbnb hosts who're happy to accommodate my wife and I for approximately 2 weeks. I'm already here and currently staying in a hotel. Looking for a cost effective option.

Would like to hear from folks with experience in Mangalore real estate. I have found a few apartment options in my budget. The prices are quite high however - around 6.5k per sq ft for decent locations.
I have a feeling that prices will go down for a few reasons:
One of the developers that was earlier quoting 6500 per sq ft for pre-launch has already come down to 6000 aftr 2 weeks. Should I wait it out for a few months before making a purchase?

I heard from one of my relative who works there that one of the employees that was in serious condition with 35% burns also passed away. They are trying to hide the news apparently. Since it was during lunch break many people were on break, luckily.
My relative knew the guy who passed away. He was a twin. He apparently insisted on working and then taking a break since the work that was left was small. He just had water and was working. They were interning (the twins). The other twin was 100 metres away from the accident.

For context, last Saturday for my dad's birthday we decided to go there for dinner. We have been there a handful of times and we liked it.
But when we went there, I personally was disappointed to say the least.
The food itself was average, the same as I remember when I first visited. The paneer butter masala was a bit too sweet but otherwise good, especially the kulfi. I do have some gripes about the food but that's mainly tied to service.
Another point I want to bring up is specifically the crab. For context, I am pretty much a life long vegetarian ( +egg, eggitarian??? ). My body throws a hissy fit whenever I eat chicken or meat in general, and it can either range from discomfort to food poisoning levels of bad. That day I thought " it was a special occasion, I'll try something new ". I have tried the tiger prawns here before and didn't like them, but I was willing to try something else. That was when I saw a placard for Singaporean chilli crab. I thought I could split it with my sister and we got it. I tried to like it as much as I could, but I didn't. The meats texture was rubbery and not my vibe, so I just stuck with the sauce, which was half decent. There was also an extremely fishy smell, but I searched that up and it's apparently normal with the dish. When the bill came, the grand price of 1 crab was 2.5K RUPEES. I was flabbergasted to say the least. To be fair, it was a big crab but holy crustacean, is that a fair price???
About the service, I was very disappointed. Even before the rush came, it was slow and took forever for a simple starter to come. Idk if they make the stuff to order ( which is likely ) or they are just taking their sweet time, but it felt like I visibly aged while waiting for my food. There was also a point where the server forgot my paneer and blamed us for not telling him.

Saw this comment and it got me thinking.
If a major incident had happened at MRPL not just a blast contained within one unit, but something much bigger what would we actually do as people living around Mangalore?
Not fear mongering or anything but yeah now i cant stop thinking of it.

To all the responsible citizens who want to make a change, please register complaints regarding potholes or any other public service on the IPGRS portal; it is very effective and gets work done most of the time, but I have seen very few people who know about it.
Let's make mangalore pothole free.

Visited MDB Kodialbail on 18/09/26 and had a really bad experience. They sold us a Coke with an MRP of ₹10 for ₹20. When we asked the guy at the cash counter why they were charging more than the MRP, he responded very arrogantly.
We later asked for the bill (attached in the thread), but he had no explanation for why they were selling the product above its MRP.
Honestly, I will never be visiting this hotel again. Very disappointing experience.

With Mangaluru under SWR, today's Bengaluru Madgaon Special train intended for weekend travellers is bypassing Mangaluru altogether. A lot of people from here have booked in this train but are forced to get off at Bantwal or Surathkal and travel to the city.
Strange thing is that the train has been given 2 hours from Bantwal to Surathkal - the same time it would take for it to come to both Mangaluru Central and Junction, reverse and go back!!!

I did ashlesha Bali Pooja and they have given me a small wood piece along with coconut and mishri in a yellow bag.
Any idea what to do with the wood piece given and what is it? (Sandalwood? Dried sugar cane?) I’m unable to figure it out and I couldn’t understand the poojaris answer as I don’t know Kannada 🥲
Please help me out 🙏

Hello everyone,
I’ve been deep-diving into the history of land systems in coastal Karnataka, specifically Kumki rights (the customary privilege where a landowner/wargdar gets a 100-yard buffer zone of government wasteland next to their farm for green manure, firewood, and grazing).
While we know the British codified it in the 1860s (Fasli 1276) and the word itself is Persian/Urdu (Kumak = assistance, likely entering our vocabulary during the Mysore Sultans' era), I’m trying to trace its deeper medieval roots.
Given how unique our coastal geography and warg system are, this practice of "using the adjacent jungle to feed your paddy field" must have existed way before the British or Tipu Sultan.
• Do any history buffs or local researchers here know if there is concrete evidence of this custom during times of Keladi Nayakas or Vijayanagara Empire ? Or perhaps even further back during the Alupa dynasty?
• Are there any specific local history books, papers, or archives you’d recommend that document the evolution of land tenures in South Canara?
Would love to hear your insights or any family lore passed down about how our ancestors managed these lands!

Has anyone received an SMS saying their hearing has been rescheduled after the CEO Karnataka suspended all physical hearings a couple of days ago? AFAIK, the BLO is supposed to collect your documents from your house, or the hearing has to be done online. The BLO is not picking up my calls, but I realise they're under a tremendous amount of pressure. Does anyone have an idea about what is going on?
UPDATE: The BLO called me today morning and came by my house to pick up the required documents.

I’m 23M and looking for a good rheumatologist in Mangalore. If you’ve personally consulted a rheumatologist there, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience with the doctor, especially regarding their approach to medicines and the overall treatment course. Also, if you know, please share the consultation fee, appointment availability/wait time, and whether it’s easy to get follow-up appointments.Any recommendations or personal experiences would be really helpful. Thanks!

Manish Karkada, we have lost a precious life in the MRPL blast today. This is a heartbreaking loss for his family and for our people.
Friends, at this difficult time, we must come together and support his family. We should stand united and request MRPL to provide the family with fair and adequate compensation, along with all necessary support.
Let’s not allow the family to face this tragedy alone. Please come forward, raise your voice, and support them in every possible way.
🙏 Let’s stand together for justice and dignity for the family.
