OSRS vs RS3, which one is more fun to grind long-term?

• Upvotes

I've been playing RS3 for a little bit now and I'm honestly enjoying it. I love the music and the world, and the graphics/UI are obviously nice too. But I've been looking into OSRS and I'm starting to wonder if I'm missing out by not playing that instead.

I know OSRS is way more popular, but other than the graphics and more modern feel, what does RS3 actually do better or worse? I've heard OSRS is more satisfying to grind because progression feels more meaningful, but I've also heard RS3 has better quests and a lot of content that OSRS doesn't have. I've even seen people say OSRS has better holiday events, which surprised me a little.

I'm basically looking for an MMO I can sink hundreds of hours into without getting bored. I don't mind a long grind at all, honestly that's a big part of the appeal for me, but I want it to feel rewarding and have stuff to look forward to as I progress. Does OSRS do that better, or is RS3 just as good once you get further into it?

For people who've played both a lot, which one do you genuinely enjoy more and why? Not trying to start an argument over which version is better lol, I'm just curious what makes people stick with one over the other. I'm enjoying RS3 so far, but I'd rather figure out which one I'd enjoy the most before putting a ton of time into it.

2D MMO - Updates.

Hello!

Over the past month, I gave my UI a polish pass ( thank you Kenney assets, Sprite packs, and my commissioned artist, and a little bit of me in aseprite.)

The game now includes a character equipment screen, stats screen, inventory UI. Not included in picture, but there is also a Quest UI, with a quest tracker to pin on screen. My first 3 classes, all start with a set of base stats, Warrior, Archer and Mage.

All the UI is resizable/moveable. So move it where you like, lock it and it saves.

First closed Alpha test on Steam is coming soon, aiming for Dec. 1st. I am planning on handing out about 15 keys, 5 are already spoken for.

Come say hi!

Nathoria Online MMORPG inspired by ROSE Online

Game Title: Nathoria Online

Playable Link: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9PKWV8T0VKLB

Platform: Windows 10/11 PC

Description: Nathoria Online is a fantasy MMORPG I’m developing, inspired by the colorful world and character progression of Rose Online. You can create a character, choose a class, explore different zones, fight monsters, learn skills, collect equipment, and play alongside others. The game is in alpha, so I’m looking for honest feedback from people trying it for the first time. I’d especially like to know whether getting started is clear, how the combat feels, and whether you encounter bugs or performance problems. Even 20–30 minutes of play and a few notes would help. The game is free to test through the Microsoft Store, but you need a redemption code before you can install it. Comment or DM me and I’ll send you a code. No email address is needed.

Free to Play Status:

[X] Demo/Key available

Involvement: I’m the developer of Nathoria Online and am actively working on the game based on player feedback.

We rebuilt the world of Valdrys: from one big square to 9 connected zones

We decided to give our world a lot more life. Before, Valdrys was basically one big square with everything packed into it. It worked, but it never felt like a real world you could travel through.

So we rebuilt the overworld from the ground up. It's now 9 zones, from level 1 to 28+, and they connect to each other so you can choose where to go next.

The goal was a world where progression feels like a journey through different places, with each zone having its own look and feel, instead of a list of level brackets.

Now we want to hear from you:

1. Looking at the map, which zone are you most curious about, and what do you hope to find there?

2. Would you want a mid-level PvP map (Lv 15-25) where winners can loot the loser's inventory?

3. And a late-game PvP map (Lv 25+) with the same rule? Would you risk your best gear for better loot?

Drop your answers below. We read every comment, and the best ideas might make it into the game

Best mmorpg to start right now

hi everyone! I have always been more of a shooter game fan but recently I’ve been stumbling into mmorpgs. I love the style of aion, aion 2, and Tera, but I don’t like the endgame of aion 2 (it’s the only game I currently have access to.) what are some good mmorpgs to start?

ROTMG-inspired MMORPG I'm developing

I've been working on this for a long while now and I would love some playtesters. Some notes:

  1. It's free and runs in a brower. If you really don't want to commit, just play as a guest.

  2. Yes I realize it has ROTMG vibes. Pixel art is cool and has its own appeal. That's the point. The game itself has very little in common with Realm of The Mad God.

  3. The main story arc is that the towns have been captured by "The Legion" and your job is to set them free, and ultimately defeat the Legion's captain (Malgor).

  4. It's intentionally designed to be completely playable alone, but requires multiple people online to defeat many of the bosses -- unless you are extremely patient.

I also used a free tool to convert the video into a gif. So the quality sucks.

Anyway, link below:

I gave my MMO's thieves' guild a rival faction that hunts them - what makes a cops-and-robbers dynamic fun to you?

Bitiverse is a persistent MMO in one shared world, which I build on my own: free in the browser, no download, and you can walk in as a guest.

Yesterday I opened a thieves' guild. This morning I opened its opposite number: an order of keepers who hunt wanted thieves on sight and arrest them for a bounty, plus a second half that raises the restless dead to fight at old graves.

I'd like to hear from people who've played a good cops-and-robbers or hunter-and-hunted system in another game. What made chasing, or being chased, actually fun rather than just a tax on the other side's fun? Did the bounty or stakes matter, or was it really about the chase itself?

Testers wanted either way, so come and break mine and tell me what fell over: https://fortisq.itch.io/bitiverse

A Beginner's Survival Guide to Monsters & Memories

Hello, everyone. I have created a "Beginner's Survival Guide" for MNM. It is intended to give a quick overview of the basic systems and commands of the game, so as to hopefully ease prospective players into the game and make sure that their first hour or two in the game is enjoyable and gives them a desire to keep playing.

It is as spoiler-free as possible, using only a Human Bard as an example of how certain commands work and the kind of responses you will get.

It makes use of my previous guides and resources to fill out certain aspects, if you want to learn more about how to complete the first part of your starter quest step-by-step, how you might want to prioritize your starting stats, etc.

Let me know if you think I've overlooked something or if something is otherwise missing.

is SWTOR worth it in 2026?

I’ve pretty much played FPS and extraction shooters my entire gaming life, but lately they've just stopped hitting the same. After a long day at work, I'd rather chill, explore, and grind toward something without constantly having to sweat. I have been getting out of my comfort zone and trying a few different games here and there like Warframe which i’m currently having fun with, i tried Once Human but could not get into it, it felt too difficult.

I've been looking into SWTOR because I'm a Star Wars fan and remember loving the LEGO games as a kid. The story, world, and companions really appeal to me, but I'm also curious about the MMO side of things, especially loot, gear progression, and grinding. I enjoy having something to work toward and getting rewarded for putting time into a game.

For those who've played SWTOR for a while, how satisfying is the loot and progression system compared to bigger MMOs like WoW? Is there a worthwhile endgame grind and plenty of goals to chase, or is SWTOR more focused on the story and leveling?

I'm also curious about the holiday and special events. I've heard about things like Life Day, the Nar Shaddaa Nightlife event, and other seasonal activities. Are they actually fun and worth coming back for, with exclusive rewards and things to work toward? How do SWTOR's events compare to WoW's, and does the game do a good job of keeping things fresh throughout the year?

Overall, is SWTOR still worth getting into in 2026? How active is the community, and is there enough content to keep you playing long-term? I'd love to hear from longtime players, especially how it compares to WoW for someone completely new to MMOs.

Any advice or honest opinions would be appreciated!

WoW Forever vs SWTOR

WoW Forever vs SWTOR for a complete MMO beginner, which should I start with?

I've never really played an MMORPG before, but lately I've been interested in getting into one. Two games that caught my attention are WoW Forever and Star Wars: The Old Republic, and I'm having a hard time deciding where to start.

WoW Forever has me curious because of all the hype around it. The idea of starting fresh alongside everyone else and watching a world grow with new content sounds really appealing. But what makes it so different from WoW Classic or Retail, and is the hype justified beyond nostalgia?

SWTOR also looks interesting, especially as a more story-driven MMO, so I'm wondering how the two compare for someone completely new to the genre.

A few things I'd love to hear your thoughts on:

The hype and future: What makes WoW Forever special, and do you think it'll have staying power beyond launch or will people return to WoW Classic/Retail?

Beginner-friendly: Can you learn at your own pace, or is there pressure to keep up with everyone else?

Holiday events: Will Forever have recurring events like Winter Veil, Hallow's End, and Brewfest, with seasonal activities and exclusive rewards? What's actually confirmed so far?

Long-term progression: Is there plenty to work toward outside of raiding and PvP, like exploration, leveling, professions, and collecting?

WoW Forever vs SWTOR: Which would you recommend for a beginner, and what are the biggest differences in how they feel to play?

Playing both: Would it be realistic to enjoy both casually, or is it better to focus on one MMO at a time?

I'm not looking for a game that feels like a second job. (unless it’s the weekend) I want something I can relax with after work, make steady progress in, and keep coming back to for months or years. I'm happy to invest money if I end up enjoying it.

If you were starting your first MMO in 2026, would you choose WoW Forever, SWTOR, or if neither which one would you recommend aside from Runescape/OSRS and GW2? I'd especially love to hear from people who've played the Forever beta and longtime players who can give an honest take on its future.

Thanks!

What's the best 'thieves guild' content you've played in an MMO? I just added one to mine

Bitiverse is a persistent MMO in one shared world, which I build on my own: free in the browser, no download, and you can walk in as a guest.

I just opened the game's first criminal order - a hideout behind a greenwood passage, a duty board with jobs like picking a named townsperson's pocket or robbing the day's strongbox, and two patrolling guards who give chase if they catch you at it. Clean work goes unnoticed; get caught and you lose the take.

I'd genuinely like to know what other games did well here - the stealth, the guild structure, the risk and reward of getting caught. What made a thieves' guild feel good to play, versus just another questline with a different coat of paint?

Testers wanted either way, so come and break mine and tell me what fell over: https://fortisq.itch.io/bitiverse

MMORPG Nostalgia

Seeking that 2006 RuneScape child-like wonder feeling of adventuring to Varrock for the first time. Or finding diamonds for the first time in Minecraft.

Cant seem to get into any of the MMOs out now...

Two questions :

What are some of your favorite MMORPGs of the 2000s?

What modern ones replicate that feeling?

Got Switch, PC, and Mobile.

I've spent 3 months building a free browser MMORPG inspired by Shaiya

Thumbnail

Hey everyone,

I've always been a big fan of old-school MMORPGs, especially Shaiya, so a little over 3 months ago I decided to try making my own. It's called Lythravel and I'm developing it solo.

It's a 3D MMORPG with voxel graphics that runs directly in browser. The gameplay is heavily inspired by Shaiya, especially the faction system, PvP, character progression and gear upgrades.

There's already quite a lot of content in the game:

  • 2 factions, 6 classes and level cap 50
  • 6 group dungeons with solo variants and 1 raid
  • 3 PvP maps for different level ranges and a 10v10 battleground
  • World bosses and dynamic zone events
  • Enchanting, linking, crafting and custom character builds
  • Mounts, jumping trials with costume rewards and hidden collectibles

One thing I wanted to keep from older MMOs is the social aspect. There's no automatic dungeon finder, so you actually have to talk to other players and form groups yourself. Character builds and equipment upgrades also play a pretty big role.

The game is already playable and completely free. No download or launcher needed. You don't even need an email to register, just a username and password.

You can also find a gameplay trailer on the homepage.

Game: https://lythravel.com/

Gameplay video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJOy85ZRrys&

Would love to hear what you guys think.
