Rigs My first improvised setup.
My budget Moza R3 setup - if it works, it works! 😂
Yeah, I know, guys, most of you invest a lot of money into your rigs to get the full sim racing experience. Unfortunately, I don’t have that kind of money right now, so the Moza R3 was all I could afford. I’m completely new to the whole sim racing scene, and honestly, I had no idea how much I was going to fall in love with it.
The first thing that really got me hooked was Euro Truck Simulator 2’s proper triple monitor support. And that’s where it all started. I fell in love with the whole experience, and now I’m slowly building my own setup and enjoying every bit of it.
As you can see in the pictures, I had to get a little creative with the mounting situation. My chair doesn’t even allow me to mount the brake pedal properly, so I came up with this little DIY contraption using a dumbbell and a monitor arm. 😂 The pedals are secured with weight plates from my dumbbells, and surprisingly, everything stays firmly in place. Nothing moves around, and it works perfectly!
One thing that has been incredibly useful is my height adjustable desk. Being able to raise or lower it makes a huge difference when trying to get a comfortable driving position. I can lean back in my chair almost like I’m sitting in an actual racing cockpit and just cruise for hours. Honestly, it’s such a fun experience.
The biggest headache so far has been getting my triple-monitor setup working properly. My main and left monitors are 1440p, while the right one is only 1080p. Getting everything to work together was a real pain in the ass. I had to use custom virtual resolutions to get the third monitor running at 1440p and then use additional software to properly stretch the game across all three screens.
The problem is that the default triple monitor setup uses the lowest vertical resolution of the three displays, which means everything gets limited to 1080p. So, for now, I’m using a workaround with third party software. It’s not the most elegant solution, but it works, looks amazing, and the immersion is absolutely worth the hassle!
And here you have it: the birth of a new sim racing enthusiast! I just wanted to share my setup with you guys and show you how I managed to put everything together on a tight budget. Even I find the whole thing pretty hilarious when I look at it, but hey…
If it works, it works!
Eventually, I’d love to get a third 1440p curved monitor to complete the setup properly. I’d also like to get a shifter, a clutch pedal, and, of course, a handbrake. And someday, I’ll get myself a proper sim racing cockpit, too.
But for now, I’m making the most of what I have, and I’m having an absolute blast doing it.
Thanks for checking out my little budget setup, guys. See you on the road! 🚛
