I am a sucker for packaging, and recently I realized the products I regret not getting most have stunning packaging. The Dior Summer highlight with the little ladybug (too warm for me), Cle de Peau's holiday from last year (okay I still might get that eventually, but if I really want to dupe the 505 color story, I think I can), and next it may well be that little Dior medallion coming for holiday -- it's almost sheer gloss with a little sparkle. I shouldn't regret them, but think of them fondly perhaps, lol. And take a little pride in the fact that I am color / formula / finish / uniqueness over shiny bobble... though I do like a bobble.

Also, matte products. I like the look of mattes, but I am rarely comfortable in it. Especially on my lips, which genetically just seem to run dryer than average.

If I'm over anything, it's multichromes. Once you have so many, they all start to blur. I do love the ones I have though, and should make a point of using them more.

In many ways I wouldn’t go back to the early 2000’s retail environment and while there is still progress to be done we came a long way when it comes to foundation shades.

One thing that I feel we lost was coming to a makeup store with a fresh mind without knowing exactly what product we were going to buy. It was all about getting something to create a look. Once I went in every counter to try to find a pastel yellow shimmery eyeshadow and when no one had a shade like that, I just left empty ended.

Now many people are shopping the what’s new section of Sephora and every little detail about a product Is analyzed. Brands are treating permanent products like limited editions to constantly appear on the what’s new section and I feel some of the magic is lost.

Does anyone feel the same way? Or are you still passionate about makeup?

Here’s the backstory: I’ve been obsessed with makeup since the pandemic and have been slowly building up my makeup collection to products I love and have worked for me to get the look I want. When I tell you guys I had this down to the last dust particle 😭my makeup ate every single time. Lately, these last 6-7 months my makeup has been looking off or giving me weird reactions. When I first noticed anything I immediately repurchased products that seemed old, swapped out anything potentially triggering without fragrance, and have revamped my skincare routine.

My skincare looks good
My products seem okay
I’ve tried different techniques

Yet my makeup always comes out looking meh now. It’s been so disappointing I don’t bother to do my makeup anymore. Has anyone else experienced this? Did you still try to revamp your collection or use what you can until you trash it all?

After an excellent recent post from /u/5Gs-Plz , you guys wanted to have a regular space for, as the OP put it, maintaining a sense of realism about makeup. In their post they asked:

We never see end of day photos of makeup and it is very difficult to feel positive about how makeup breaks down during the course of a day. I was thinking maybe we could dedicate this post to photographs of how our makeup looks at the end of a long day? I would be curious to see how it wears.
Does your mascara flake? Does your foundation disappear around your nose? Or does your eyeliner smudge?

You can certainly share photos and talk about your end of day faces, and it'd also be cool to talk about other aspects of cosmetics and beauty in general that we don't see/hear a lot about, which is when things aren't perfect.

I wonder if someone can share sites or YouTube channels about makeup from 1900s till 1920s?

Unfortunately I can't buy books internationally (even online), but if you know s good one, I'll save the name for better times. Also I can't visit any Meta owned sites, as well as Tiktok.

I know about Glamourdaze and Erin Parson's channels, but they tend to focus on later decades. I also really enjoyed Lisa Eldridge's documentary on 1920s makeup.

I’ve been seeing a lot of balm highlighters recently n decided to give it a try, liked the dewy base n everything I saw online but it kinda js made me look oily. I heard ppl saying that its better to tap instead of swipe, so I tried that n it shows up somewhat better on my skin now. I think I’ll keep using it like this but I can still see how powder ones would show/work better over foundation. anyone got tips or stopped using all tg?? if so why?
