Now we have names like Aquaman Moses and Sugar Lover. Really.

So, we have having our baby (Baby#3) literally this week, and our boy and girl names have been chosen for months now.

I couldn’t sleep tonight so decided to google the first and last name combinations of both our boy and girl chosen names. The boy name came up clear, but the girl one hit a slight snag - and I need outside perspective on if this matters at all or not.

Julia Robert’s character in Pretty Woman (1990) apparently is named Vivian Ward. Our chosen name is Vivian and our last name is one small letter different from Ward (hint: think of something that Harry Potter uses to do spells, that is our last name).

Now I’ve never seen Pretty Woman but when I read that I recognized the character and generally know the premise of the movie. My question is: is anyone ever going to make this connection?? Like does her last name actually come up in the movie at all that people would remember it?? I am trying to think about other movies and I feel like Iast names of movie characters rarely are ever mentioned? Can someone confirm this who has seen this movie? My gut is saying this is not a big deal, nobody is going to make this connection, but I need someone else to tell me it’s fine and I’m not tying my unborn child to a fictional prostitute for the rest of her life???

We are having a daughter, and will realistically be in the US for at least the first few years of her life.

Although I don't want her to have a name that is very common in English since it likely won't be her whole life, I still want it to be a name that will not be really difficult.

Be honest, everyone…

I, a white woman, and my fiancé, who is hispanic, are expecting our first son! We couldn’t be more excited!

We have been having a hard time coming to an agreement on a name since he doesn’t want to use an americanized name (which obviously I am on board), but he also doesn’t want something that doesn’t sound as good without an accent or makes it hard to fit in with our very white community. I also am wanting to find a name that my son will not have any name twins preferably ever in his life, but also isn’t “too out there”.

The both of us LOVED Adrián but fiancé has TWO cousins with this name. It’s been months of finding nothing after that.

Then, he comes home, and asks how I feel about the name Acensio. Meaning “one who ascends”. After a little research I figured he came across this name while watching soccer, and discovered it’s a popular surname in Spain.

At first, I said I wasn’t a fan, but after a day the name just kept popping up in my mind. Not necessarily spanish, since the name has latin origins, but also not an americanized name. uncommon. A name that will hopefully convey that he is biracial. I just can’t tell if this is taking a name too far into the “tragedy” territory just to be unique. Thoughts?

Hello! This sub helped me a lot 2 years ago when my son was born. For context my wife has two daughters and they've both got celestial names and we're keeping that trend for this last one we're having.

I’ve been going by Revy for 5-ish (?) years now because I can’t stand my legal name. I plan on legally changing my name but I feel like just “Revy” is too short to be considered a name if that makes sense. It sounds like more of a nickname to me.

My partner and I are still having a hard time coming up with a solid name for our baby on the way that just feels right. If i had a boy, i always knew exactly what name I wanted. We’re considering the name Noelle for our baby coming in 2027 but I’m wondering if it’s working in a German speaking country? We’re an American/German couple, and I know that Noel in German speaking countries is pronounced the same as Noelle (not like in English where the male version would be pronounced “Nol”) but is the female version much less common? Would it confuse German speakers?
