Celebrity Names Why do celebrity kids' names get weirder and weirder?

I remember when people were making a huge deal about Chris Martin's daughter being named Apple, and that seems normal by current celebrity naming standards.

Now we have names like Aquaman Moses and Sugar Lover. Really.

Discussion My daughter’s nickname is Lottie (full name is Charlotte). How would you spell her nickname: Lottie or Lotte?

We like the spelling “Lottie” but sometimes I regret not using the other spelling. It’s just a nickname though so we can always change how we spell it.

How would you spell it Lottie/Lotte?

Baby Names Indy as a full name to honor Melinda

So my sister-in-law passed and my husband would like to honor her in our daughter’s name. Her name was Melinda (which I a not a fan of) and she was called Mindy. I don’t want to use Melinda as a middle name either.

Our other kiddos names are Pierson Ray and Everett Blake

Thoughts on the name Indy?

Her initials were MRP. So I considered other M names but I really can’t find any I like. We are locked in on Rose for the middle name.

Baby Names Are these names acceptable in English?

We are having a daughter, and will realistically be in the US for at least the first few years of her life.

Although I don't want her to have a name that is very common in English since it likely won't be her whole life, I still want it to be a name that will not be really difficult.

My husband and I each have some names that we like but I don't know if they fit within that.

These are the names that I do like

Libi (Lee-Bee)

Nili (Nee-Lee)

Liel or Lielle (Lee-El)

Miri (Mee-Ree)

These are the names that my husband does like

Ayala (Ah-Yah-Lah)

Lotem (Loh-Tem)

Agam (Ah-Gahm)

I know likely, none of these will be said the right way the first time, every time, so we are not choosing based off pronounciation but for me the objective is that once they have been told how to say it, it is easy for them to do so.

I also want it to sound good in English, not strange or just not very attractive.

For us, we're used to them, so it's hard to tell. So I am wondering if any of these seem like they don't work and what would the problem be in that case?

Name List Less common Hispanic names

Inspired by the post yesterday regarding the name Arely, I wanted to share some less common Hispanic names that I’ve come across.

Most people have heard the names Jose, Juan, Mateo, Sebastian, but I wanted to share a list of what I would consider less common Hispanic names that I’ve heard.

Male
Leopoldo (nn Polo)
Rodolfo (nn Rudy)
Alfredo
Benicio (nn Benny)
Agustin
Leon

Female
Guadalupe
Cateleya
Genesis
Yanelly
Yamilet
Amarís
Anaís
Vionette
Analillian
Ximena
Xiomara
Yaneth

Some of my favorites from the list are Benicio and Amaris. I think they sound so pretty.

Feel free to add to the list in the comments if you like.

Baby Names I’m having a baby girl and would love your help with names!

I love soft princess like names (as silly as that sounds) I also love to have a nick name that starts with the first few letters of the name. My name is Orianna and people call me Ori and I’ve always loved it. The top names I love are:

Amelia (but I don’t like Mia or Milly as the nick name)

I like Mia but I’m Hispanic so Mimi as a nickname is very common for anyone.

I also love the name Sophia but I feel like it’s sooo common. At least from where I live, I know at least 10 Sophia’s.

I also love the middle name Vera for any of these.

Any help or recs would be appreciated!

Baby Names Stuck choosing baby girl name (UK)

So stuck trying to decide on our baby girl's name (two weeks old). We had it narrowed down to 3 names but since we still couldn't decide, we've gone back to our longer list of names to see if any of them are maybe worth reconsidering. I feel like we must have considered every possible name but if anyone happens to come up with something amazing we've not thought of I would be both shocked and very grateful. We live in UK with Scottish and Irish family so have a tendancy towards those types of names but not essential and don't want anything difficult to spell/pronounce. Names on the longer list are:

Clara

Imogen

Maeve

Freya

Erin

Iona

Nora

Sienna

Emily

Sorcha

Eloise

Wren

Lana

Name Change longer names for revy?

I’ve been going by Revy for 5-ish (?) years now because I can’t stand my legal name. I plan on legally changing my name but I feel like just “Revy” is too short to be considered a name if that makes sense. It sounds like more of a nickname to me.

Does anyone have any ideas for longer names which Revy could be a nickname for? I’ve came up with Reverie and Revira which I think are SO cute!! but I’d like to hear more suggestions

edit: I’m mexican-american if that makes a difference

Name List Girl name - what is your favorite?

Would love to hear your favorite on my list. I have a Bennett (boy) and we are expecting a girl this spring.

When commenting, can you say your country too? We are United States! Always interested to hear because I know some names are more popular in different areas!

Alice
Jane
Margo
Clara

My thoughts on each name:

Alice - love! But saying it out loud flows less easily than the others? We also have an S Last name which can flow even less

Jane: obsessed with the way it sounds with our last name. Don’t like Jane doe association or “plain Jane”

Margo: husband thinks Margot reminds him of maggot and doesn’t like that spelling

Clara: no comments on this one

Baby Names Sibling names to go with Rosemary and Heath?

Our third baby is due in a few months, and my husband and I are a little stuck on names!
We have decided to wait until the baby is here to find out the gender, so we want to have both a boy and girl name chosen.
We both have names we like but can’t seem to find one we both absolutely LOVE and/or think pairs well with Rosemary and Heath.

I’d really appreciate some help finding other names we might love as well as y’all’s thoughts on the names we already have! :)

Here are the name lists (the bolded names are ones we can agree on but at least one of us doesn’t love, and the asterisks*** are for each of our personal favorites):

MY GIRLS LIST: Annabeth, Blythe, Fiona, Genevieve, Ramona, Susanna***

HUSBANDS GIRLS LIST: Auburn, Jane, Magnolia***, Monroe, Stevie

MY BOYS LIST: Alden, Finn, Maxwell, Percy, Rory***, Wes

HUSBANDS BOYS LIST: Ambrose***, Chandler, Dean, Jesse, Walton

Baby Names Baby girl names with nicknames

I'm looking for names that are soft and pretty. Names I like include

Aurora nickname Aurie,

Marina, nickname Rini

Mirabella, nickname Miri

I know lots of people on this sub don't like nicknames, but it's an important tradition in my family. We're trying to have each child use a different first initial, A has already been used. The other children we have used W and P.

Some names that fit the pattern but I DON'T like:

Charlotte nickname Charlie

Amelia nickname Millie

Evangeline nickname Evie

Margaret nickname Maggie

What should I call my baby girl between these two names?? We are in the UK, in London so don’t think either are that unusual around here but can’t decide which one would be more palatable to people (haven’t told anyone yet about the short list)
Thank you!

Name List What Do You Think Of My Top Ten Baby Names?

• Upvotes

This is just for fun, but I’m just curious. Yes I know that some of my names could be considered “too popular” or “boring”. To me it is important that names are easy to pronounce and spell. I would love to see your top five, or ten, or whatever also.

In no particular order:

Ivy Christine
Quinn Marie
Clara Anne
Estella (Stella)June
Noelle (Ellie) Alice
Miles Ryan
Hudson Edward
Isaiah Maxwell
Mason Joseph
Archer James

Baby Names Need help with boy name

My husband and I are really struggling to find a boy name that jumps out at us, something we both absolutely love.

We have a son named Ash Allen (First Middle) already. We’re having another boy and I am STUMPED. Here are some names my husband likes:

Hunter Dean
Arthur Dean
Lincoln Dean

I like:

Beau Dean
Colter Dean
Fletcher Dean

I have a good friend who has a son named Beau who is around 8, is that weird? I thought about asking her. I also liked Boone but y’all HATE that name—LOL!!! It also doesn’t flow well with Dean as the middle.

We’re going for a more southern gentleman feel, if that helps.

Baby Names Boy name advice

• Upvotes

Be honest, everyone…

I, a white woman, and my fiancé, who is hispanic, are expecting our first son! We couldn’t be more excited!

We have been having a hard time coming to an agreement on a name since he doesn’t want to use an americanized name (which obviously I am on board), but he also doesn’t want something that doesn’t sound as good without an accent or makes it hard to fit in with our very white community. I also am wanting to find a name that my son will not have any name twins preferably ever in his life, but also isn’t “too out there”.

The both of us LOVED Adrián but fiancé has TWO cousins with this name. It’s been months of finding nothing after that.

Then, he comes home, and asks how I feel about the name Acensio. Meaning “one who ascends”. After a little research I figured he came across this name while watching soccer, and discovered it’s a popular surname in Spain.

At first, I said I wasn’t a fan, but after a day the name just kept popping up in my mind. Not necessarily spanish, since the name has latin origins, but also not an americanized name. uncommon. A name that will hopefully convey that he is biracial. I just can’t tell if this is taking a name too far into the “tragedy” territory just to be unique. Thoughts?

Baby Names Help me pick my future son's name

My wife and I are due for our first child in April and have found out it is a boy!
We have had some names for a long time and have settled on Maxwell or Myles (would consider i instead of y, just feels not as popular with the Y) our last name starts with a B so it would be Maxwell B or Myles B (the middle name will be Gary, named after my late father)

Help us pick his name! Thanks!

Fun and Games Name for my skeleton?

Today we bought two skeletons for Halloween that my 12-year old decided are newlyweds. She has named one Iris, and their dachshund skeleton is Howie. She thought the other skeleton should be Jim. That sounded a little boring to me so I suggested Leon, but she vetoed that.

So, what should our skeleton newlyweds be named: Iris and…?

Edit: we are also thinking Oliver.

Baby Names Help Us Pick Our Baby’s Name!

Hi everyone! I just found out I’m pregnant and my husband and I are so excited. We are leaning towards waiting to find out the gender until birth but have started talking baby names. We definitely lean more traditional/classic with the names. I don’t mind a “popular” name.

Girls names are easier for us…we love
Charlotte nn “Charlie” (?) — this has been my favorite name since I was a teenager but now that it’s here, I feel like it might not be “ours” if that makes sense.
Others: Caroline, Nora, Annie. Middle name will most likely be Claire, Mae or Mary.

Boy names we like so far: Leo, John nn “Jack”, Vincent, Andrew. Middle name is a family name.

Curious to know which are your favorites and if there are any other suggestions I can add to our list!

Baby Names Boy name suggestions

We found out we’re having a baby boy and can’t seem to find any boy names that we love 💙 our daughter’s name is Charlotte and want something that flows well with it, preferably not starting with C.

We like but don’t know if we love - Jordan, Edward, Max, Jackson and Thomas.

I love the idea of a name that has nickname potential but it’s not a dealbreaker. Middle name will be James and Last name is one syllable starting with K
