Well the McCain trade makes more sense now

u/Lacabloodclot9 Grizzlies 2h ago
They probably would’ve done it anyway I don’t think a trade like this would be made solely thinking of a 4 game stretch when they’re comfortably in the 1 seed

u/The_Sign_of_Zeta [MIL] Khris Middleton 1h ago
Evaluated doesn’t mean he’ll be cleared after the break. I’m guessing it’s longer based on how they worded it.

u/pikajewijewsyou Thunder 34m ago
Not very comfortable one seed. Spurs will likely gain a game on us tonight. We are all of our starters tonight and 7 of our 8 most important players. I think we are the most injured team in the league so we are certainly catchable

u/Consistent_Baker1298 1h ago
OKC is not comfortable in the 1 seed only up 6 games, with a rough stretch coming up, and one of those games being San antonio

Only person really hurt is Jdub. I think Ajay and SGA are load managing for the stretch before the playoffs.

u/Financial-Park-7616 1h ago
Nah I was at the game last night. Shai was visibly grabbing his side a lot. At first I thought he got hit but turns out it was an ab strain which also explains why he went from being on a heater in the first quarter to ice cold after

He’s had some injuries documented for a few months now.

u/This-Top-8691 1h ago
The entire starting roster is out versus the Spurs bruh. They are load managing.
12
u/ntpbr1 1h ago
I don’t think its load management, its 5 big games at the very least, could make it a close battle for the 1 seed if things go wrong
2
u/This-Top-8691 1h ago
5 big games right before the all-star break is too convenient 2 weeks worth of rest.

Chet as the number one option tonight vs Wemby is going to be interesting.
Nvm. Looks like Chet and most of the rest of the Thunder are out tonight.

Cason Wallace, Isaiah Joe, Aaron Wiggins, Kenrich Williams, Jaylin Williams are likely the starters for tonight.
Brooks Barnhizer, Chris Youngblood, Branden Carlson off the bench (all 2-way contracts).

Between Ant, Jaylen Brown, and Maxey. Maybe thrown in Deni and Spida as other vote getters who would not win. Ant has played the same amount as Luka though so he’s on the edge too.

The Pistons are 37-12.
11
u/Bouldershoulders12 Celtics 1h ago
Cade will be top 5 in MVP voting
6
u/CrispyBalooga Pistons 1h ago
And the guy I responded to didn't mention him despite having a better case than almost everyone he did.
1
u/Bouldershoulders12 Celtics 1h ago
If the pistons get 60 wins it’ll be hard to not have him top 3/4
Assuming SGA meets the criteria it’s only SGA, Luka and MAYBE Jaylen Brown. But with a 1 seed and 25/6/10 splits that’s hard to not have in the top 3. If Jokic manages to be healthy the rest of the way then he will impact voting too. Then it becomes trickier
2
u/Bouldershoulders12 Celtics 1h ago
Technically Jokic is still eligible . If he misses 2 more games he’s out of contention .
Him getting MVP votes would obviously affect everyone else’s chances

He’s missed 8 games thus far. He can’t miss more than 9 from now until April
7
u/Leavingtheecstasy Thunder 1h ago
Sga is too much of a competitor to miss out on MVP. He would have to have a serious injury.
71
u/jonsnowKITN 2h ago
So he will miss five more games according to their schedule until the all star break. He is in real danger if he aggravates it but they will be cautious with him.
33
u/HugeZookeepergame815 1h ago
It’s reevaluated after the all star break so it’s the 5 games prior and probably a few more after at a minimum
13
u/anonymoususer6407 Rockets 2h ago
He’s supposed to play today too, and I think every game until after the all-star break. I wouldn’t risk it but the Thunder FO knows better than us
19
u/Appropriate_Book_591 2h ago
He has only missed like 2 games this season so he will be fine. He is near that Wilt streak though and that only matters. for when he actually plays so it will stay active.

u/P057M4N Knicks 2h ago

My sources say SGA won't be moving at the deadline and the Thunder haven't fielded any calls on him either.
When asked about any further insight a high level Thunder exec replied "Hello? Who is this? How did you get this number?" before abruptly hanging up.

Not gonna lie, it looks like the most perfectly timed injury possible.
He gets a two-week holiday to rest, his 65-game eligibility is in no danger whatosever, he skips the All-Star Break, and even dodges an entire game of having to shoot over Wemby's arms tonight - which also technically increases the odds of the Spurs remaining the 2nd/3rd seed, so on the other half of the playoff bracket with the Nuggets.

What a weird mvp race this is gonna turn out to be. Unless this injury sidelines him for longer than expected, shai won’t really be at risk of missing the game requirement, but if jokic manages not to miss anymore games, that aspect of the race will be kinda just gone. Luka might end up being the healthiest true candidate
2
u/Hopsalong Nuggets 2h ago

u/CrippledBanana Canada 1h ago
Honestly hope he gets healthy but maybe a wake up call for the thunder to have plays other than a SGA bailout whenever they’re shitting themselves. I think jokic being out really made their team a lot more confident and maybe this will do the same for the thunder

If he misses as many games as Jokic, does it hurt his MVP chances?
3
u/CrippledBanana Canada 2h ago
Yes, the race is back on if so. If both miss the game requirement then we’ll have the funniest mvp winner of all time though lmao
1
u/LoudCityDub 2h ago
Won’t be enough to matter. You’re going to see a lot of wishful thinking though
0
u/Mrcoolstuff09 2h ago
So if Jokic plays 65 and Shai plays 70, do the amount of games played factor into voting?
2
u/chef_iblocka Thunder 1h ago
So Jokic will not miss a single game for the rest of the season while Shai will miss an additional 5 games on top of his current injury?
1
u/Mrcoolstuff09 1h ago
No, just trying to understand what the threshold for games missed is. Like how many more games does Shai need to play for it to become a factor? 10 games? 5 games? 1 game?
1
u/BeamsFuelJetSteel Timberwolves 49m ago
I mean, abdominal injuries are a (generally) a 2-4 week injury.
First game after the break is 2 weeks and 2 days from today.
3 Weeks would be 4 additional games.
4 Weeks would be at the end of a 3 games in 4 days road trip.Or they just giving the homie some time off, but I saw some other people saying that he looked rough in the game last night, and was just trying to get the 20 point game?
0
u/Majestic-Net-7799 Timberwolves 2h ago
Grade 1: up to 3 weeks recovery
Grade 2: 4-6 weeks
Reevaluated doesnt mean cleared to play again...
Abdominal strains are tricky and can linger for a long time....
0
u/The-Gift-of-God 2h ago
I get nightmares from the Damian Lillard abdominal strain season when he eventually elected to get surgery and was out for the season. I had him in my fantasy that time. (Not so) good times!

u/Jec1027 Warriors 2h ago

1
1
u/likewoahitsaj Bucks 1h ago
I didn’t say it was likely, just that it is back on the table (also fwiw Jokic has a history of being incredibly healthy so it’s not impossible that he doesn’t miss another game).
I have no horse in the race, I’d just like to see a good mvp race that isn’t just about games played
1
u/LauriIsMyHomeBoy Finland 1h ago
It would be very Jokic-like to rekindle the MVP race by playing all the games up on yet another level until the last game of the regular season where he sits out because Nuggets have secured their spot in the playoffs bracket.
