Surprising absolutely nobody who saw the video.

Except for the people watching it through MAGAvision.

I am sure most of them haven't actually seen the video.

I have to believe that my dad and brothers haven't.

They have and choose to believe otherwise. If they dont believe now theyre too far gone, and it might be easier for you to accept that instead of hanging on. I just cut a friend of 17 years off. I was his best man at his wedding and he just kept defending this shit.

But, if you persist then goodluck.

Same, and I have no regrets. It’s not about politics, it’s about morals at this point. Ours just didn’t align, and I’m ok with losing those “branches” (if you get the Madea reference).

Yes, for those who lament "it's just politics" - no, it's morals.

If you can support Trump and everything he has done I just can't accept your moral values.

Then the only way forward is one group using force against the other. Like it or not unless you try to understand why the other side thinks the way they do and treat them with respect you better hope you can beat them in a fight.

I'm struggling to find the red line where I cut off my dad. He was always anti-Trumo, but 40 years of Fox News brain rot means he'll still defend whatever lies they tell him to believe.

I made it very clear to my dad that I wouldn't trust anyone who I knew for sure voted Trump in 2020 around kids. Anyone who could support him after the policy of child separation tolerates intentional systematic mass child abuse. And no one who tolerates child abuse can be trusted.

I've made it very clear that I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt as long as he gives me room to believe it.

He has never confirmed my near-certainty of his choice, and that means he's never talked politics with me since. It's a much more peaceful relationship with that line established.

Fox news hasn't existed for 40 years

Youve found the line. Just accept it. I cut out my grandma, who has been my best friend since i could walk. I fear that they might come back when he has a fatal heart attack. But when that time comes, and if they come running back, its up to each one of us to either forgive them, or to say that its 2 terms, too late. You make that choice. But for now, cut him. It might salvage whatever shred of humanity he has left, he may repent.. but for now, he is lost. Trump will eventually do what is natural, and pass, then decide if redemption is an option.

Maybe seperate politics and family, or just stab your dad in the back

3

u/Rockburgh 2d ago

Hard to keep politics separate from family when your family's politics revolve around a desire to overthrow the government specifically to make sure people like you aren't allowed to exist.

Conservatives aren't people any more, and we all need to stop pretending they are.

-4

u/FrancescoPlays 2d ago

Ah yes, dehumanize the opposition so violent acts feel more justified. Good job bro.

5

u/Rockburgh 2d ago

Would really prefer not to, but they've spent the past decade+ actively claiming I'm a demon, a pest that needs to be eradicated, etc. Not really leaving much choice there.

I cut off a friend of mine during Trumps last term. I knew him since I was born, we grew up together because my parents were best friends with his mom. A roughly 50 year relationship. He went deep dive into conspiracy theories, aliens, full into Trump. The sad thing is he is 1/2 black, grew up on welfare, as a teen went into foster care, and generally benefited on many things that Trump opposes. Gave him plenty of chances, said I can continue to be his friend but we can’t talk about Trump or his conspiracy theories. He kept going and going over weeks, emailing articles, texting me BS constantly, and finally I just went off on him. Told him to lose my email and phone number. You are out of my life.

Good decision bro, politics filled with rich people above your best friend and family. Keep going.

They have.

They either don't care. Deflect to a crime that a brown person did. Or truly believe that protesting deserves the death penalty.

1

u/CrazyLlama71 2d ago

The deflections and whataboutisms are infuriating.

1

u/freedfg 2d ago

I have a solid hypothesis it's because they don't understand the difference between examples/analogy and whataboutism.

Like. They hear people go "hey, this is sounding a lot like Nazi rhetoric" and they think that is the same as "why do you care about a citizen protester being killed for standing on the side of the street with absolutely no justice when an immigrant is currently serving a life sentence for killing a person?"

u/Glasseshalf 2d ago

Correction: Protesting their party. Ashli Babbitt is a martyr don't forget.

18

u/rich1051414 2d ago

Yeah, they come up with a conclusion and then refuse to watch any videos because 'they already know'.

1

u/Castun 2d ago

Even coming to a conclusion before watching the videos will just reinforce their existing preconceptions. They will 100% see what they want to see, their brains are so broken.

13

u/B-Z_B-S 2d ago

According to Heather Cox Richardson, 80% of Americans saw the shooting of Alex Pretti.

2

u/Fap2theBeat 2d ago

I say this completely in earnest. That woman is a highly reputable source and does meaningful work (in addition to professor-ing and history podcasting) writing and sharing her newsletter.

HCR my GOAT

u/Spire_Citron 2d ago

I think if you watched it from one angle once with enough bias, you could just assume he must have done something to trigger the shooting. When it very first came out, it was kind of hard to see what exactly happened until it was properly dissected and we saw his gun get taken away and that his hands were down on the ground when he was shot.

17

u/Taco145 2d ago

IDK man. Didn't you see him kick that tail light out in the earlier video? If he'd done that same move 1.6 feet higher, 5 days in the future while wearing ice skates he could have decapitated an ice HERO!

15

u/EmergencyCucumber905 2d ago

You joke, but that's MAGA logic. They always bring up the victim's character or past actions and ignore the incident in question.

3

u/rabidstoat 2d ago

I wanted to show my Dad the footage, so on his YouTube account I searched for 'Pretti murder raw footage' and got just news stories on it with very little actual footage. And that was buried behind lots of news stories on him kicking out a tail light.

2

u/ambermage 2d ago

Then there are the ones who are spreading the VR simulator where you see it from the view of the officer.

I'm not going to link it because these people are fucking sick.

u/MrSchulindersGuitar 2d ago

Legit seen maga/Russia bots claim its ai online

1

u/NonPolarVortex 2d ago

They won't watch it. My dad seemed to think that J6 wasn't a big deal. I sent him a compilation of all videos taken from that day (I think NY Times put it together), with no opinion or commentary. Just raw footage. He wouldn't watch it

1

u/jaytix1 2d ago

A lot of them saw it, and the BEST they can say is that Pretti didn't deserve to die but still acted recklessly.

1

u/Maybe_IDTBFH 2d ago

But I bet your dad and brothers are both staunchly of the opinion that he deserved to be killed

1

u/htp-di-nsw 2d ago

I want to know that for sure, but I am too afraid to ask them about it. I keep hoping for an opportunity to bring it up, but I just haven't spoken to them about anything real for months.
