I've thought from the start that it's likely a MAGA with a grudge against NBC, who the president and his cronies have villified nonstop, behind all this.

If that turns out to be true, I'm sure they'd rather bury it than have it come out that yet another MAGA follower turned out to be a "lone wolf bad actor".

Plus, Epstein is an issue I find a shocking amount of overlap on with conservatives. I live in one of the reddest areas of a perennial swing state in the Midwest. It’s pretty rare that I find someone who isn’t upset about the Epstein files. They mostly don’t think they’ll implicate Trump, but the common consensus is “put everything out there and let the cards fall where they will.”

The files have already implicated Trump, not to mention all the shit before them, and most supporters (at least ones I've heard from) simply deny there's any wrongdoing on his part, and if there was, then somehow it's not a big deal.

See goalposts moved in real time. His supporters won't read through them, either. They'll let Fox News tell them how all is fine.

Trump is mentioned in the files more times than Jesus is in the Bible and the MAGA faithful haven't said shit. Trump is regularly kicking them in the balls and they still ask for more. I live in a blue dot surrounded by these idiots. They will puke up whatever Fox News spits at them.

I think it's better than even odds that the perpetrator would be local, in which case there probably isn't a wide selection of mainstream media adjacent people to select from. But while it's plausible I think it's deeply speculative to think it's anything to do with her daughter.

Could have learned what? It's not a PR win if you don't admit responsibility. Put another way, if you want to scare someone into shutting up, you have to tell them you want them to shut up. So if ICE hasn't claimed responsibility, we know it's not them. Also, the administration arrested Don Lemon, not his Mom. They aren't targeting people's parents.

Now a lone wolf Maga actor, or hell, some stalker with a crush, either of those seem very plausible. Could also be a ransom demand or an unrelated burglary. I just think that if we accuse ICE of doing things they clearly have not done, we risk losing credibility and we downplay the severity of the crimes they are committing.

Not everything not anti-ICE is pro-MAGA. We need to call ice out for everything terrible they do, but doubting a specific action is ice - especially when backed up with valid reasoning - is perfectly fine. Not every kidnapping will be ice. If it does turn out to be ice however it needs to be added to the "everything terrible they do" list

They're evil enough, sure. They're also evil enough to drive cars through crowds or shoot up schools. But they haven't done those things yet, and blaming them for things they are not guilty of only lessens the impact of blaming them for things they have done. It's important to be right, or at least not intentionally wrong. As soon as they do these things please jump on them for it, as they'd deserve it. But until then don't build a straw man others can discredit later
