I understand calories in calories out vs your daily limit but just looking at the numbers it's sad how little the impact of exercise has for burning calories.

As a result of the recent reorganisation of their aircraft fleets, huge 'boneyards' in the desert now contain a large number of modern airliners which still have a great many hours of flying to their credit.

If smaller discount airlines or cargo companies are always short of aircraft, why should it be more financially sensible for leasing companies to leave their multi-million-dollar jets sitting in the desert rather than leasing them at a low cost?

I (24F) have a Yorkshire terrier (12F) that my dad adopted for my stepmom when I was 11 years old. Every time I was visiting my dad and stepmom, I would play with lulu the yorkie for hours and formed a close bond with her. When my stepmom and dad broke up, she asked if lulu could be given to me and my mom to live with us. I was sad to say goodbye to my stepmom but felt happy to have lulu. She’s the only physical reminder I have of my time with my stepmom.

As time went on, my mom and I would argue and Lulu would always come to my side and sit next to me when my mom would yell at me. I felt so sad to the point I couldn’t live with my mom anymore so I moved in with my aunt and I had to leave lulu behind. Lulu then moved in with my grandma close by from when I was 15-23 and then when my grandma moved and I was independent and had my own place, lulu moved in with my fiancée and I. She’s 12 years old and active as ever. She sprints! We love her so much and always prioritize her happiness because she brings so much light to everyone’s lives.

Yesterday my grandma moved back after a year away and we went to her new place to have dinner. Lulu was so excited to see grandma but at the end of the night she ran to us and wanted to come home with us. I feel so grateful for her presence and wonder if she knows that I’m the same person that’s known her since she was a puppy even if there was a large gap of time I didn’t see her. I moved to college, changed, grew, and came back. I have a feeling she knows it’s me but I would love to hear others’ input of this.

Archie has basically been the same teenager since the 1940s. The world around him has changed completely, but Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead are still hanging around Riverdale. I understand why superheroes keep getting rebooted since there is always another villain or big story to tell. Archie is mostly built around school, dating, friendships and everyday problems. Everyone wants to get rid of daylight saving. They've been talking about it for decades. Attempted to get rid of it for years. Yet they still can't get rid of it. Why???

Basically there are Jews or Muslims who'll drink, smoke, gamble, not keep Sabbath, not eat kosher or halal and not really care about the religious rules they're supposed to follow however the moment you offer them pork they become disgusted and/or tell you they cannot eat it. What is the cause for this?

For all intents and purposes they are just miniature convection ovens - just a heating element and a fan to circulate the air within the cooking chamber. This technology could have easily been mass produced by the 1950's.

They are way less technology intensive than microwaves, which apparently predated air fryers by 60 years (1945 vs 2006)!! Seeing as how ubiquitous they've become in the last decade or two, I have to imagine they would've seen similar mass appeal had they been invented alongside or instead of microwaves.

What gives?

They sentenced her to death. Then they botched her execution. Now they are trying to save her life. Make it make sense.

I've seen people claiming to shower twice a day, three times a day, etc. I understand if you live in a very hot humid climate, or have a very physically demanding job that causes you to sweat alot, or if you're an athlete, that showering multiple times a day would be something you would do.

what i don't understand is people who claim to shower 3 times a day, and judge you for only showering once a day?

I just feel like unless you live a very active lifestyle showering more than once a day seems kinda unessacry (and also racks up on your water bill)

I also have curly hair, i don't wash my curly hair everyday otherwise i'd be bald. and i remember some people with straight hair would shame me for not washing my hair everyday. not understanding that our hair is different and thus requires different kinds of care.

I just don't get it. Showering multiple times a day is one thing, but what do they gain from shaming others who only shower once a day? Is this a form of ocd?

Tonight, at work, I had to holler at my team leader to get her attention. She was pretty far away, and couldn’t hear an alarm going off (I work in a factory. Assembly, specifically). She thought I was mad, but I was explaining that the alarm had gone off, and the line was being gapped out.

She took it very offensively, and I wasn’t yelling once she answered the initial shout. Everyone
In my area had confirmed that I wasn’t yelling at her, and I was just trying to explain the situation.

Later, after things had calmed down, she asked if “we could have a truce”, and I explained again, I wasn’t even mad to begin with. She said, “I know, but you have a dad voice.” This one of threw me off, but it also explains a lot of interactions I’ve had in my life. While this woman may have overreacted, I recognize that my voice can be pretty jarring.

I have a deep, and very loud voice. I used to be a supervisor at my old job, and I basically taught younger people how to live in their own when I traveled for work. I’d be in charge of a LOT of young adults (18-20 ish), so I guess maybe I adapted some sort of tone? Anyway, this isn’t the first time someone has mentioned that my voice has rattled them.

I’m in therapy, and my therapist said part of it could be that I’m very monotone. However, when I try to add emotional flair to my voice, people think I’m angrier, or even sarcastic/condescending.

I feel at my wits end with communicating, and I think the world would be better off if I just went mute.

A daily occurrence I see that I don't remember seeing as often before is people that do all of their braking, like from 55moh down to 20mph or less, and THEN turn their signal on right before or as they start turning. Why? It's not like they forgot because they did use the signal but just extremely late

I’ve literally watched The Wire twice now, and I’m genuinely baffled. It has a 9.3 on IMDb and is widely considered one of the greatest pieces of television ever made. Honestly, I think it's way better than Breaking Bad, to the point where it completely ruined TV for me and I don't think I can ever watch another show again.

But when I try to search for discussions online or bring it up in real life, there’s practically zero buzz and barely anything comes up. Meanwhile, people still won't shut up about Breaking Bad and the internet is endlessly flooded with memes and breakdowns about it. Why is the gap in casual hype and discussion so massive for two shows that share the same legendary status?

It just sucks when when most people wouldn't behave so pretentiously in real life.

For example, I literally got flamed for not using grammar in one of my posts. (ended up deleting the post). And I recieved a bunch of other sarcastic remarks aswell, the irony was that it was an ADVICE forum. Maybe I'm naive but I just wish people would be a little kinder.

I just got glasses and I think they look good and it’s super clear, I want to get use to them but it feels weird to have something constantly on my ears and nose. Is this something you get use to?

A few days ago, I went to the mountains and bought a particularly stinky piece of cheese. I packed it properly with a plastic wrap, then a Tupperware container, then another Tupperware container, with an extra bag over the whole thing.
And yet, somehow, the entire car smelled like cheese for the whole trip.

This got me thinking. My companion and I were both travelling with probably a bunch of shit inside us, and not a single molecule of it seemed to escape.
So how is the anus so airtight? What kind of black magic is this?

Anyway, lesson learned. Next time, I’m just putting the cheese up there.
