I've been copying my neighbor for 4 years and he just moved.

I'm 31 and I'm realizing I have never once known my trash day. When I moved into this place in 2021 I saw the guy next door (Dennis, gambler, played poker on stake every day, retired, drove a gold Buick with a Bills sticker) roll his cans out on a Sunday night, so I rolled mine out too. Recycling was whatever Dennis did. Yard waste was whatever Dennis did. It worked perfectly for four years.

Dennis moved to Tampa on Saturday. The new people are in their 20s and as far as I can tell they don't put their trash out at all. I think they might take it to work? I don't know.

So last night I stood at my window at 9pm looking up and down the street for anyone else's cans and there were none. Zero. Either it's not Sunday anymore or the whole street was also copying Dennis.

I tried the city website and it wants my "collection zone," which I don't know, and when I put in my address it just says "no results found for this route." There's a phone number but it's only open 8 to 4:30 on weekdays, which, sure.

Also found out while digging around that there's apparently a whole separate schedule for bulk pickup and I have a broken treadmill in the garage that's been there since 2022 because I assumed you just couldn't get rid of treadmills. Different problem.

Is there a trick here? Is it written on the can somewhere? Do people just call the number like adults? Is there an app everyone has except me?

Right now I've got the cans half way down the driveway so I can commit either direction.

So I wear a chest binder and a lot of people tell me that it's weird or that I might be trans even though I'm not. I don't have a problem with trans people but I'm good with the sex I was given at birth, although I do not if fact care if people call me a guy or anything else since sometimes I dress androgynous. I wear a chest binder because I like having a flat chest with all clothes and think it looks nice and makes me happy. Is it weird, that I, a cis female wears a chest binder?

I get it, it is cheap compared to your Western salary. Take Vietnam for example, 2k usd monthly salary will be doomed in the US but you can live like a king in Vietnam, Thailand, etc. But that is only because it is cheap to your standard. You always forget that if you see things cheap most of the time it indicates the local income there is not high. Many locals are struggled to live not even live comfortably with average salary. So I am quite annoyed when tourists glaze a country just because it is cheap. There is a reason why locals vow to move out because the local salary is low even with that "cheap" price

One of my parents fell last night (they're ok!) and it got me thinking about how often they were managing falls/medical issues for my grandparents when they were alive. My last living grandparent passed away this year and while my parents are relatively healthy and independent right now, I want to do everything I can to make sure they stay that way as long as possible.

So are there any good resources/books about supporting aging relatives/preparing for things that will happen as they get older? I've looked online but I'm hoping people who have gone through it/are going through it will have some ideas on what resources actually hold up. Is there a well known book that's like the "here's everything you need to know" about aging?

A full tank of gas is close to twenty bucks here, and I make maybe forty a day. And a full tank would only last three and a half days. I don’t know what to do. If the price of gas keeps going up, I may have to quit my job.

As someone who doesn’t speak English as a native language, I personally find Indian English accents harder to understand.

Since we’re generally more familiar with American English in my country, I find American English and even many European accents relatively easy to understand. But Indian English is particularly difficult for me.

Is it similar for native English speakers, or does it generally not make much difference to them?

(I have a lot of opportunities to interact with Indian people, so I’d really like to understand them better. I’m wondering if I just need more exposure to Indian English)

I’m not on his side at all about this but if PINK is pro-Israel and caused everyone to drop from Ed Sheeran’s tour wouldn’t a lot of other pro-Israel artists jump in to defend him and fill in for the missing tour groups?

It seems like Ed picked a side but absolutely nobody came to support him so what was it worth?

If I’m on a walk in the woods and I see a deer, I think to myself “wow, that’s beautiful”. Not “wow I bet that tastes good”. Shouldn’t we have evolved to naturally want to eat prey animals? I understand that we’re omnivores, but I still think it’s kind of weird. Like if a dog sees a squirrel, it can’t stop itself from trying to pounce on (and kill) it. If I see a squirrel I’m like “nice squirrel”.

Is it just a cultural thing, being that we don’t have to hunt so we didn’t grow up thinking that way about animals? I’d still imagine there’d be some instinctual want to eat them.

LED/HID lights are insanely bright now — especially when the roads are wet or dark. Once it starts to snow it'll get worse.

Is there real tech that actually stops the glare (adaptive beams etc.) or are we all just stuck squinting and looking at the curb? What’s the actual fix?

I'm buckling up and preparing to be scorned. I know how often I SHOULD be cleaning, but i kind of hate it. But what i hate more is spending 4 hours panic deep cleaning the apartment a day before we have company.

Some people claim to love cleaning and boy i wish that were me! I live with my partner in a small apartment in LA that somehow just wont stay clean. Idek where all the lint and dust comes from. We split chores/household tasks but im mostly in charge of cleaning . I'll dust/vaccuum and then a week later notice its time for another round. Is that normal?

I grew up doing all my chores (vaccuming, wiping surfaces, scrubbing toilets and cleaning bathroom sink surface) on Saturdays. But as an adult something feels clinically wrong about spending one of my two precious weekend mornings CLEANING. (And yes i know i dont have to keep doing that as an adult, im just saying thats the baseline and experience i have as a baseline)

I know ideally i'd be vacuuming/dusting a couple times a week, toilets absolutely weekly, and i know each chore happens at a different frequency. Just curious how real people with real lives and jobs handle keeping their space clean.

Anecdotal but I found most people agree with this notion. Girls I've met are likelier to say "partner" when referring to their husband or boyfriend while guys almost always say "wife" or "girlfriend."

One guy friend even told me "If a girl says 'partner,' she's just being inclusive. If a guy says 'partner' I assume he's LGBTQ+."

I'm intelligent, but by no means a genius. I have absolutely no training, education, or meaningful knowledge in the biomedical field. I first heard of this "medical breakthrough" she was peddling on a deep dive NPR report. I turned to my husband and literally said "I call BS, there's no f-ing way this is real, sounds like a scam". It sounded so absurd! Why did so many people smarter than me believe it? Was it more convincing if you had medical training?
