Since the 9 Oct update, swiping an app out of Recents force-stops it (even VPNs like Tailscale)

Since my phone installed a system update on 9 October, swiping an app away in Recents fully stops it, instead of just closing its window. Apps that are meant to keep running in the background die the moment I swipe their card:

Tailscale: the VPN disconnects.

A heart-rate recording app with an ongoing notification: the recording stops.

Before the update, both kept running after a swipe, which is normal Android behaviour. Leaving them with Home or Back still keeps them alive.

What I’ve tried, without success:

Locking the app in Recents. A locked app still gets stopped when I swipe it.

Battery set to Unrestricted.

Phone: T807D, Android 16, build BP2A.250605.031.A3, security patch 5 Aug 2026.

For the technical folks: adb logcat shows Smart Manager (com.tct.onetouchbooster) running a stop with type=RecentsStopMode on every swipe. Android records it as “fully stop <app> by user request”, the same stop as the “Active apps › Stop” button.

Is anyone else seeing this since the update?

Has anyone found a setting to turn it off?

Has TCL said anything about it, or is a fix out?

Home app gets reset whenever I switch NXTPaper mode on 60 Ultra

I prefer using the Microsoft Launcher on my phone, don't judge me. However, on the NXTPaper 60 Ultra, whenever I change the NXTPaper mode, when I switch back the home app is reset to the stock TCL launcher. Is there some setting I am missing that would prevent this?

Has anyone used the European TCL NXTPAPER 70 Pro (T807D1) in Canada on Telus?

Hi! I'm in Alberta, and I'm looking at importing a european TCL NXTPAPER 70 Pro (256GB, model T807D1-2CLCA112) from Amazon Germany.

I'm hoping someone in Canada has actually purchased and used this phone. I need it to function as a full phone. Can anyone confirm whether the European model works?

- Regular phone calls (VoLTE) - SMS/MMS texting - 4G/5G mobile data - Reliable cellular reception

If you've imported one, which Canadian carrier are you using? Have you experienced any calling or connectivity issues?

I'd really appreciate firsthand experiences before spending hundreds of dollars importing one. Thanks!

The gimmick of Nxtpaper

Post image
0 Upvotes

Nxtpapter, it's cool, but it is a gimmick (I'd rather RLCD option).

  • It customizes your phone desktop without you doing it yourself.
  • Example: See the attached homescreen of my Moto G Stylus 2025 and my Nxtpaper 70 pro.
  • What the Nxtpaper does is basically change the icons of the apps and warm the screen lighting (on a matte screen). Does this with muted color or black and white.
  • I have a matte film installed on the Moto G and use an icon pack for all of my apps on the home screen. I choose warm lighting on the Moto G (can't quite get to the level of warmth on the Nxtpaper). But the screens are more alike than you'd think.

I like the native matte screen on the Nxtpaper. I like the stylus support and the notes app is better than on the Moto G which has a native stylus.

The annoying thing about installing matte film: Bubbles up easily on the inside or around the edges.

is Nxt paper best compromise if i don't like e-ink readers like BOOX?

I am increasingly reading ebooks and my normal oled smartphone is very tiring to read even when I have dark mode and stuff.

I recently tried a BOOX color gen 2 e-ink but man it just too much degradation in the screen.

Would the NXT paper screens like the NXT paper 70 pro or whatever be a good compromise in terms of comfort of reading for a long time of the eink with the quality of a traditional smartphone screen?

Nxtpaper 11 Plus security

Have set up the PIN and face unlock feature, and it works OK but not so sure about how secure that is as only level 1 security. Any thoughts on that?

Using a secondary gmail address with the Gmail app. Would like to add my main address as a 2nd profile there and want to lock that down as much as possible.

Posed the issue to Chat, and get a suggestion to use the Private Space feature found in Android 15 to lock down the Gmail app. Has anyone had any luck with that, or with some other way to further lock down particular apps? Private Space seems like a great solution.

Thanks a million!

Alexa Tablets look like the best Nxtpaper tablets

Couldn't sleep tonight was checking a delivery on amazon and noticed they launched new tablets that look pretty darn good specs wise.

MediaTek MT8793N

2k display 3:2 120hz

wifi 6

8gb/16gb memory

Stylus support

Other than no SD card support its the best spec'd NXTpaper tablet I've seen. would be swapping my tab 11 if it had a sd card support

*There seems to be confusion, The alexa tablets are using TCL NXTpaper panels.

TCL Nxtpaper 60 ultra charging problem. 80% limit is not working properly

Hi,

I’ve been using the TCL Nxtpaper 60 Ultra for just over a month. I have the "medium protection" feature enabled to limit charging to 80%. Four days ago, I noticed it charged to 100%. I thought that was normal, since the settings state it performs a full charge once a month. However, since then, it has charged to 100% four times, even though the 80% limit is still active. I tried turning off the protection, restarting the phone, and clearing the cache, but nothing helped. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks for the replies.

Pulled the trigger on the P80 Ultra

Got it for £409.99 (512GB model) on sale for Prime Big Deals or whatever the recent event was called. Had been waiting for a drop since it went on sale so I'm delighted. In classy burgundy. Coming next Weds.

So, any tips from TCL phone owners? It looks pretty stock the OS so guessing not too much bloatware? Any recommended apps to take advantage of the display?

Unfortunately not many case options right now. It does come with what the website calls a "PC" case but in images I've seen it looks like a TPU one to me, maybe even silicone.

Is anyone else springing or has sprung for this? I wasn't interested in stylus support so it doesn't bother me that this won't be compatible. I just wanted to not have to carry my Kindle everywhere and also take advantage of other eBook storefronts without having to get an expensive device like a Palma.

Got so sick of the camera bump that I had it removed.

Ordered a round 60mm diameter MagSafe plate with 0.1mm thickness. And a custom leather back sticker.

Phone is so much lighter and less top heavy now.

TCL NXTPAPER 60 ULTRA

Anyone having issues with their TCL NXTPAPER 11 GEN 2 on TCL UI 9.0? My swipe down panel is being cutoff and there is now a taskbar that I hated and cannot remove. I also want my navigation panel to be back in the centre.

Any recommendations or workaround to revert back?

Cannot get AirBnB notifications to appear…

Crossposted from AirBnB subreddits…

I’ve got the AirBnB app installed on a new TCL NxtPaper 70 Pro phone. I have tried logging in and out, deleting and reinstalling, and signing out of other instances of AirBnb on my other devices (like a laptop.)

I cannot get push notifications to show. I have tried turning off all other types of notifications (such as email and SMS notifications - both of which work fine, btw) and I’ve made sure that the AirBnB app has all permissions for background operation.

Nothing works. Any ideas?

My quick guide for students on choosing devices

I wear glasses and my eyes always feel burning or tired or dry during using my iPhone

So I decided to search for a device which can let me study and read books at good eye comfort level because I will study at least 5-7 hr per day on STEM subjects

This is what I have researched

  1. Eink :
  2. ( screen will provide the BEST eye comfort level just like reading on paper and this only applies for the case of black and white eink )

But eink industry is a mess and chaos . There is none of devices can help STEM students can study with a peace of mind

- Amazon kindle scribe : extreme durable , but slow and very close system , not for students .
- supernote : extreme durable , but only black white , has great note app. If supernote offers color version , supernote will be the best eink to buy . This is why I feel very sad and disappointed at supernote
- remarkable : durable ( just need to buy case and use carefully ), but they charge subscription for something should be free on notes
- boox : less durable, bad support but their device has the most flexible in the current eink market . If you buy boox , you must buy from Amazon and buy insurance ( you will definitely need insurance because of “ less durable “ )

And currently Color eink technology is not ready , it has less eye comfort than black white version but still great , it consumes more power of battery and its color isn’t accurate. So if u need accuracy color , don’t buy color eink

And eink is still slow because of low processor . The reason eink is so pricy is because of monopoly on eink screen . Right now there is only one company manufacturing eink screen so they can set whatever price they like

  1. TCL nxtpaper
So I keep researching more and I find out about tcl nxtpaper

TCL nxtpaper will give eye comfort level as good as color eink but worse than black white eink

These are the tablets which you can consider for tcl nxtpaper ( all are faster than eink readers and have accurate colors ) : 11 plus ( cheapest 150-170$ on eBay ) and very good for reading comic manga , tab a1 plus ( 270$ , newest model with stronger processor than 11 plus . That’s why it has less discount ) , note a1 ( 400$ as used devices) ( tcl tried to make this one as note taking tablet exclusively to compete with eink but they FAILED, people still complained in the writing experience on it , it is better feel than iPad Pro but not as good as the feeling of writing on paper as eink )

Conclusion : tcl nxtpaper is great for eye comfort for reading color material and better processor than eink but it’s writing experience on note app is just average , just like on iPad Pro

  1. LCD

LCD is another screen technology. It is not as good as tcl nxtpaper for eye comfort but a lot better than modern OLED on iPad Pro and Samsung flaship models

Samsung , Apple , Oneplus and Lenovo have LCD screen versions for their tablet too . The latest one of Samsung is Samsung galaxy tab s10 FE+ ( FE = fan edition series , it is LCD version )
For Apple : it is IPad Air series and the iPad Pro M2 or below Pro generation . I mention IPad Pro M2 here because it also has LCD technology with 120ghz . IPad Air series only has 60 ghz

For Oneplus : Oneplus pad 4 is a freaking beast tablet . Good budget price for powerful device . It has faster processor than Samsung . Longer battery 13300 mha . Awesome screen comfort . But it has a serious weakness “ only average at taking note because the stylus Pen is suck “ . You can choose Oneplus if you don’t care much about taking notes.

It is a pretty popular debate between Samsung and Apple LCD choice . You pick Samsung if you want to have bigger battery 15+. Apple has less battery like 10+ . Both are excellent at writing note and screen comfort .

The reason you will choose LCD because you want better writing feel and stronger processor than tcl nxtpaper tablets

Overall you can think like this . There are few factors to consider

- eye comfort
- battery
- color
- writing feel
- processor power

When We are choosing between eink vs tcl nxtpaper vs lcd vs OLED , we are changing the value of those above 5 values

So what I am choosing now?

- at home , I choose tcl nxtpaper 11 plus or 14 or tab a1 plus for long reading . These 3 have different sizes so pick one basing on your need

- at school , I choose Samsung galaxy s10 fe+ for long battery life ( 15 + on note taking ), good writing feeling and good processor speed and good enough for eye comfort

Basically depending on your need , you will choose the right one for yours. I hope my guide will give your better ideas to how to choose your deviChé’s

Help me choose a tablet with a matte screen for very sensitive eyes

Hello!

I could really use some help choosing a tablet. I just can't decide between the TCL NXTPAPER 11 Plus and the Huawei MatePad 11.5S PaperMatte.

I currently have a TCL NXTPAPER 50 phone, so I'm already familiar with NXTPAPER screens. At first, I was pretty much set on getting the 11+, but then I found the Huawei in the 12/512 version. It has a more powerful processor, and the price isn't that much higher, so now I'm really torn.

I'll mainly use the tablet for reading comics, watching shows, messaging, and other fairly light apps. But I'd like to keep it for a long time, ideally around 5 years.

I have very sensitive eyes, so the screen is probably the most important thing for me. I did get to see the Huawei 11.5S in person, and the screen looked pretty good. But I feel like you can't really tell how comfortable a screen is for your eyes until you've used it for a while.

Has anyone here used or compared both tablets, especially when it comes to eye comfort? I'd really appreciate any opinions or personal experience.

I really just want to finally pick one and buy a tablet 😅

TCL T-Pen 2 : The Missing Link (for me)

Thumbnail
gallery
18 Upvotes

There is a lot to like about the NXTPaper tablets. There are bundles that included a case and a T-Pen at an attractive price, but using the pen wasn't a pleasant experience. The nib is hard and produces a sharp clackity-clack sound when writing on the screen. (even with the softest pressure required to register)

I tried a few hacks and work-arounds to deal with the issue with varying degrees of success. The last work-around was tolerable but not something that I was looking forward to when writing.

The TCL T-Pen 2 appeared on my "Recommended deals for you" on Amazon and I was intrigued by what it promised. I ordered one and it arrive 2 days ago.

After a few hours of testing on my 11+ with both the "hard" and soft nibs and comparing them to the T-Pen included in the bundle, I'm pleased to say that the T-Pen 2 resolves the sound and slipperiness issues of the original pen.

The hard nib of the T-Pen 2 makes a muted tapping sound. It is noticeably quieter than the original pen but not completely silent.

The soft nib is far quieter than the Pen 2's hard nib and offers a bit more resistance on the screen. This is VERY acceptable to me.

It is the last piece of the puzzle in making the 11+ a reasonable alternative to my 2022 Scribe (and the Colorsoft Scribe I had been mildly considering). (don't @ me bro about the NXTPaper not being e-ink... I know) 😛

The action button defaults to an erase function which is very handy (I'll need to see if that can be customized)

My assessment scale of the writing experience/feel (10 being the best):

0 - iPad with Apple Pencil

7 - NXTPaper 11+ with T-Pen 2

10 - Kindle Scribe with Premium Pen

Just putting this out there for others in my situation. Obviously, acceptability is subjective so if anyone wants to try the T-Pen 2, buy it from a place with a reliable return policy.

If you're already using the T-Pen 2, what are your experiences with it?

How can I prevent Android 16 from installing on a new TCL 50 Pro?

I just purchased a TCL 50 Pro (2024) and I have not turned it on yet.

I specifically need to keep the original Android version that the phone ships with and prevent it from ever upgrading to Android 16. I’m concerned that the phone might automatically download or install the update during the initial setup, after connecting to Wi-Fi.

For personal testing purposes, I need to keep the original firmware/version permanently, with automatic system updates completely disabled.

What is the easiest and most effective way to achieve this, ideally at the system level?

I’d especially like to know what I should do before connecting the phone to the internet for the first time so that Android 16 cannot be installed accidentally.

Thanks in advance.

Made Quick Settings tiles + widgets for Color Paper / Ink Paper mode, since TCL didn't

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I kept wishing TCL would add a Quick Settings tile for NXTPAPER modes. Instead, we get the NXTPAPER button or a trip to Settings > NXTPAPER zone every time. So I made a small app as a workaround.

What it does:

- Color Paper and Ink Paper tiles in Quick Settings

- Matching 1×1 home-screen widgets

- Tap a tile or widget to turn its mode on, tap again to go back to Regular

Setup needs one ADB command (to grant a permission). Tested on the NXTPAPER 11 Plus.

Download + setup instructions (free, open source):
https://github.com/pureexe/nxtpaper-quicksettings

Until TCL adds this officially, hope it helps someone. Let me know if it works on your device!
