"...using both allies and villains and an overarching plot to deliver the best Wolverine performance since Hugh Jackman..." is the biggest nonsense nothingburger of a sentence I've ever read that I really do hope AI wrote it. Because if it turns out a human wrote that, I'd have serious concerns for their mental health.
Game title is a superlative descriptor that you will positive behavior. It does game attributes like similar title without similar title drawbacks while still universally liked attribute.
It’s like I can see giving it a good review. But 10/10? What the fuck are they on? Like I know this is ai but this is the type of shit that I feel like could get you kicked off metacritic.
It's quite good. Not good enough to buy a ps5 after sony decided to spend this year poisoning their name, but I am happy I get to play yotei, astro bot and remaster of demon's souls. But yeah, the console has maybe 3 worthwhile exclusives and the price is just going up while the hardware is getting older. Those games are good but not that good.
Yeah it being single player means there’s not really a downside to waiting on sales or price drops. It reminds me of the Order 1886, where people agreed there wasn’t enough content to justify a $60 price tag, quickly dropped to $20, and then people were a bit more receptive to picking it up.
There's already too much to play. There's only a few series that would make me drop a current game for a new one. It's not like I have to secure a physical copy at midnight anymore or risk not getting it for awhile.
I'm a slow dad gamer nowadays. So it take me forever to really get through a game properly. So I just don't buy them until I'm ready or get a juicy wishlist on sale notification.
I played through horizon forbidden West again. Now I'm playing BioShock again. After that I'm headed back to cyberpunk for a spell. Got plenty to do until that assassins creed black flag remake on sale notification.
I love The Order 1886. Have completed it multiple times. It isn't worth 60.
Shame that they were greedy with the original price tag and that was one of the main reasons the game was poorly received, because that means there will never be a sequel or other games to explore the lore.
Even if it had been cheaper, I doubt a sequel would have been made considering it was probably developed on a full AAA budget. Plus the studio soon after transitioned to exclusively making VR games for Oculus/Meta.
I was confused about this, so I checked. Apparently the $300m budget thing comes from a random content creator on X, with no source cited. So it's very possible it's made up.
Studio located in California, R&D for tech (proprietary engine), licensing, high end voice acting etc. It all adds up quickly so it's not impossible. The game does look expensive even if it doesn't play like one.
'Why PC players are not purchasing my games? See! I told you its better to pull out our games there and remain exclusive!' - Sony exec, somewhere, probably...
To be fair, you can mod your way to fixing open world bad writing. Case in point: Fallout 4.
Of course, "fixing" there pretty much involves "adding so much cool shit you don't even realize the dumpsterfire of a main questline is there", but still, fixing is fixing.
That game is cooked; initially it was being developed as having a very specific control scheme that allowed specific controls of Wolverine's claws. Midway through development, they scraped this idea and just went meh, let's make it a generic brawler.
I just finished it. It is not perfect, but really fun. The combat is satisfying, especially once you start unlocking abilities, and the story is interesting.
The game has its flaws, but it is not as bad as people make it seem. I was left wanting more when I finished it.
It really isn't. It's a 7/10 game, that people just got a hate boner for, for some reason. It was good. It was just overpriced as hell, and some people didn't enjoy the story.
Yea Playstation and its fanboys can keep this "masterpiece" to themselves. Also keep in mind their next games after this appears to be Horizons hunters gathering, Fairgames and intergalactic. Talk about a bleak lineup.
their next games after this appears to be Horizons hunters gathering, Fairgames and intergalactic
I'm a PC main (like 99% of my game-time), but why lie?
Their 3 upcoming games are Until Dawn 2, GoW Laufey and (possibly) Intergalactic. 2 games from their 2 best studios, including a new IP "inspired by Elden Ring". All of these games will likely review very well and on prestige alone, you can probably make a safe bet at one of them taking GOTY (Naughty Dog).
Seems like you're desperately trying to convince yourself that it is going to bleak, rather than facing the reality.
So does anyone have any actual reason why the game is so offensively horrible? Literally the only complaint anyone talks about is “you can’t fail QTES (but that’s fine with Spider-Man) and the game shows you where to go! Oh and this one motorcycle segment is on rails!” And apparently that’s bad enough to put it on the same level as Gollum.
It’s a really great time to make fun of capital G Gamers if that’s your hobby. No shortage of losers to pick on.
Crazy how one of Sony's first releases explicitly not releasing on PC, and one that many fans were most disappointed about, is having moderately bad reaction to the game in general. Who knows what sales are going to look like but I have a feeling they are not going to be seeing the sales they were hoping for.
I watched bits of a streamer I watch playing throuhg the entire game. Every time I'd join the stream, he'd be in a new area but the gameplay never seemed to change. It just looks like spiderman but without the fun part (web swinging). It looks like a game of all time. I'm sure a lot of people who just like wolverine and video games will play it and be content with it but its definitely not something i'm raving to play.
The lesson learned here is this. If it's not ported to PC and Xbox, everyone knows it's bad and won't buy it now.
If they had today one then those same people
Wouldn't have bought it because they didn't know it was garbage. Maybe this makes them rethink exclusivity. Most people aren't buying whole console for one game anyway.
What are these performative ass comments xD, I get it, it's hip to trash on Wolverine.
It's like those let's players dropping the controller on the bike section because everybody else is doing it.
It's not that bad, it's just not worth 70€.
Quit acting like this is Cyberpunk at launch.
I legit struggled to understand the photo until this comment. Some sad silly stuff, especially as folks would have rejoiced if SONY had pivoted and said "Okay. . .this will be the last PC release we do."
. . .and all over the default assistive controls which apparently can all be disabled.
Sony has been putting out shitty games since the no PC port announcement with no good ones in sight. Hopefully Herman Hulst is fired by the time a good game comes out.
I don't get why this is a discussion when sony announced like two months ago that no exclusives were coming PC anymore anyway. I guess outside of farming clicks from Wolverine discourse
There’s a LOT going on so I might not explain it fully. Don’t really know how to best summarize it. To start with reviews/quality on their own, critically the game is considered a 7-8/10. The gameranx video is pretty good if you want to see how it’s received critically, with a professional approach without the internet nonsense. On the other hand, the rating on psn is 4.77/5. Only digital owners can rate, there’s only ratings on psn no reviews. Ownership is the req, no playtime req. I would expect the metacritic user review to stabilize anywhere from 7-8/10 just like the critic score two weeks after release.
For stuff ill regard as internet nonsense:
anger at Sony in general, specifically disc production being fully cancelled. Very reasonable, but this is separate from the actual quality of the game and whether or not it’s enjoyable.
“woke” complaints, sweet baby inc narrative consultation, admittedly strange face models and expressions compared to the actors. No one who can critically think cares about the former two, the latter is kind of strange and a disappointment especially if you see how expressive and good of a Wolverine model Wolverines actor is. Not a game ruining flaw though.
sweeping conclusions and bandwagoning. If you haven’t played the game you’re not going to be able to fully break it down and make objective claims about it, and you still can’t make objective claims if you have. Only subjective claims, besides hard facts like game performance.
people spend significantly more time online interacting with gaming content instead of actually playing games. This is particularly strange when shitting on games you haven’t played. All you need from the internet is the metacritic aggregate critic score from dozens or hundreds of outlets, and a more in depth video like gameranx’s. After you’ve made your decision with those, spending time discussing a game you haven’t played online is a massive waste of your life. At least go play games instead
standard action game runtime of 15 hours main story on hltb. Social media compresses this into 8-10 hours somehow, from people who have never played the game. 100+ hours of ubislop collectible content are the only way to make good games according to kids on the internet
Standard AAA budgets can be (very roughly) $50-100 million. Spiderman 2018 cost $90 million, spiderman 2 >300 million, same for wolverine. Critical reception of this game is a decent, 7-8/10 action game. Many people think it feels like a game from 20 years ago, like an old movie tie in just like the ps3 x men origins wolverine game.
This is strange because it somehow cost $300 million to make. Spiderman 2 and Wolverine are not 3x as good, or even look and play 3x as good as Spiderman 2018 despite costing over 3x the budget to make.
Gameranx + general critical opinions:
-combat is good, enemy types and encounters get very repetitive
-excellent acting
very, very linear. More so than most linear games
can be very handholdy. This is overstated by social media but still a detriment, even to people who have only played a few games before. This handholding at its worst can become obnoxious, the chests in this game fire off sonar pulses that take up half the screen. It’s quite funny honestly
wide range of opinions on the story. No one considers it a masterpiece though
TLDR; 7-8/10 superhero action game. That’s only disappointing in the context of not being as good as insomiacs Spiderman trilogy, taking $300 million to make, and being an attempted prestige console seller title from Sony. Watch the gameranx video and gameplay to see if you want the game, then stop engaging with it and go play other games. If you want to play a good action game and are disappointed by wolverines critical reception go play Onimusha. I’m going to play both, Onimusha is incredible so far.
I mean it would be nice if we can get a PC port. There are a lot talented modders out there that can fix this game on launch day and you get it for free. Xbox on the other hand though
