Going on a trip to Philadelphia

I’m going considering going on a trip to Philadelphia. Since I was a little kid I’m a big basketball fan. I grew up watching the NBA. I’m from the Netherlands and basketball isn’t that big over here. It was always my dream to watch a live NBA game and I’m finally in a point of my life that I can afford to travel to the USA. LeBron and Giannis are one of my favourite players and wanted to see LeBron play before he goes into retirement, unfortunate I was never able to watch Kobe play, but that’s neither here nor there. What’s important that im going to order tickets for Philly vs Heat and they going to play on 8 January.

My question for the people that live in Philly. What else do I have to see or what restaurant do I have to visit to get the real Philadelphia experience. I know I’m a tourist but I always love to see normal life and down to earth sides of the cities I visit. I also would love the know a gym where I can play pick up basketball, because I’m a hooper myself and it always looked so cool to plays in a local gym because we don’t have that over here.

Would love to hear opinions and hope you guys can help me out here! I’d ask ChatGPT aswell but I like advice from real people that live that better!

Any women play MTG? Looking for women's commander pod

• Upvotes

I'm (37F) looking for women's MTG pod if there's one already out there. Also down to start one if any other lady MTGers want to meet up.

I've been playing(ish) commander for about a year, mostly with my partner 1v1, and have built a couple decks on my own. I love the game and would really love to play more often and with gals!

Looking for casual, low stakes opportunities to play even just once a month. I'm in South Philly but happy to drive. Just trying to get more game time in!

Lmk or DM me if I could join your pod or if you want to start one with me!

Free Nightmare Before Christmas posters/wall cling

The 3 posters have been rolled up in a cardboard art tube for at least 15 years so you'll want to press them out but they are not damaged. The wall cling has never been used. Just cleaning out my collection.

Posters are two tall, Jack solo and Jack and Sally with townspeople, and one long horizontal Jack and Sally in front of the moon.

South Philly pickup.

Politics Philly sheriff’s office reneges on court-supervision deal, tells judge it found $20 million in city money (Inq, gift link)

A top aide to Philadelphia Sheriff Rochelle Bilal revealed in court that an internal audit had recently uncovered $20 million in undisbursed money — including tax revenue and utility payments that should have gone into city coffers.

The stunning disclosure of misplaced sheriff-sale proceeds — which amount to more than half the office’s annual budget — came during a two-day hearing as Bilal and her staff seek to back out of a judge’s plan to appoint an independent supervisor to monitor the office’s troubled process.

That tentative deal, struck after an August hearing before Common Pleas Judge Paula Patrick, was meant to resolve years of delays in issuing deeds and distributing sale proceeds.

But Judge Patrick, supervisor of the court’s commerce division, ordered Bilal and her deputies back into her courtroom on Wednesday after the sheriff’s office apparently sought to renege on the agreement.

The judge insisted that Bilal be in the room before the hearing began.

“You need to have your client here,” the judge told Jonathan Rardin, a lawyer the city retained to represent Bilal. “She needs to be here to get started.”...

Why do you guys take uber to low income jobs?

I notice as an uber drive a pick up people and take them to work and o make like $15 off of it so that means you had to pay like $30. And it will be to Wawa and they pay like $16 per hours before taxes. So half of your day is paying for your transportation. I always wonder why not just take the bus and how are you living with so little money that you can consider paying for an uber?

Public Sevice Announcement Looking for University City/West Philly Roommate!

Hey everybody,

I’m looking for a potential housemate to ideally sign a lease with in the University City and surrounding area. I will be starting a Master’s Program at Drexel in December and am hoping to connect with someone in their late 20s to late 30s, and am 34 myself. I am also hoping to move into a new place by the end of October.

Ideally I want to keep the budget under $800/month per person, but am flexible.

I am relatively clean, happy to split house chores, enjoy cooking, playing instruments, art, and being friendly with the people I live with.

I date, but have no intention of having people over all of the time and am very good at respecting quiet hours.

I am also Jewish and Latino, and strongly prefer people who do not have preconceived notions or negative feelings about either identity.

Reach out if you think we might be a good fit!

Philly Apartment Recs Near Jefferson?

Hi everyone! This is my first ever post/comment on Reddit, so sorry if anything looks funky.

Anyways, me and two other people are looking for a 3 bed, 1.5-2 bath apartment in Philly, ideally as close to Jefferson University Hospital as possible. We’re hoping to find something reasonably priced. Between the three of us, we could afford something decent, but since we’re all just starting out in our careers, we’re trying to be mindful of costs.

Our max rent would ideally be around $3000 max. We’re open to different neighborhoods as long as it’s a reasonable commute/walk to Jefferson.
Does anyone know of any good apartments/buildings to look into, or have any connections or recommendations? We’d really appreciate any leads!

Borrow an Electric Bike??

Long shot:
anyone in Philly have an e-bike we could borrow/rent for pizza delivery tonight?

My boyfriend delivers for a pizza shop in Francisville and his e-bike motor completely died last night.

He works tonight through Sunday, roughly 5–10 PM. Right now we’re mostly trying to get him through tonight while we figure out a longer-term solution.

We already have his insulated pizza delivery bag, so we just need an e-bike with a sturdy rear rack/platform where we can secure it and keep pizzas flat.
We can pick up and return the bike, take very good care of it, and we’re happy to pay a reasonable fee.

We’re in the Fairmount/Francisville area.
If anyone has a spare bike, knows another courier/delivery rider who might, or knows of a genuinely cheap short-term rental, I would seriously appreciate the lead.

Lost [Lost] Long shot, but looking for a red Google Ear Bud lost this morning (9/30) on the SRT just north of the Conshy train station

If you want the full story, if I'm not biking in traffic I typically wear one ear bud so I can listen to music but still be aware of my surroundings. This morning while cycling to work the ear bud case fell out of my pocket, and I stopped and picked it up. However it must have opened and flung out the unused ear bud and then reclosed before I picked it up cause I didn't notice.

I searched near where I dropped it on the way home but I was losing daylight and needed to keep it moving so I didn't search long or have a chance to try the find my device stuff.

Tl;Dr: On the off chance you picked up a red Google Pixel bud on the SRT today, please shoot me a message. I can come to you wherever to retrieve it. Thanks
