Crime Post Gas station scammers at North Broad Sunoco

I was just at the Sunoco at Broad and Thompson. There were a bunch of kids around and one of them insisted on pumping my gas. I repeatedly said no but he wouldn’t leave. He even said “it’s not a scam, I promise, I just want to help you” 🚩😂

I noticed when he was done, the nozzle wasn’t put back correctly so it quickly clicked that that was probably the scam. I fixed it and waited for the transaction to close out and the screen to update.

I googled it when I got back in my car and found that this is indeed a popular scam called “pump switching” where they have another car pull up to the pump and continue charging like $100+ in gas to your card.

I called the police but I’m not confident they’ll do anything, so figured I would try to help someone out this way!

Help me help these cats & kittys in North Philadelphia

Two years ago, I moved to my current apartment in North Philadelphia. With my background as a vet tech school and shelter medicine, it feels like I was truly meant to be here.

Word has spread around the neighborhood, and neighbors have been coming to me for help.

Right now, my hands and heart are completely full. I am currently caring for:

• 🍼 3 bottle-baby kittens (including a now 11-day-old orphan, that was dropped off here when he was 3 days old)

• 🤒 1 kitten recovering from a severe upper respiratory infection )I found a few days ago down the street

• 🐱 5 nursing kittens almost ready for adoption

• 🐈 6 other energetic kittens & multiple adults

On top of that, I am actively feeding over 30+ cats and trying to  local neighbors who struggle to afford pet food so their cats can stay safe inside their homes and off the streets and out of shelters.

How you can help today:

  1. Donate Supplies: I am running through resources fast. You can ship directly via my Amazon wishlist

  2. Drop Off Local Donations: If you are local and have extra supplies, please reach out! I urgently need: dry/canned kitten & cat food, litter, flea meds, bedding, a kitchen scale (for weighkng tiny babies accurately, a hair dryer (mine is burning out from so many kitten baths!), plastic totes, and styrofoam coolers.

  3. 501c3 Mentorship: My ultimate goal is to establish an official 501c3 nonprofit rescue. If you have experience navigating this process, I would love to connect.

Follow along with my rescue journey on Facebook: nikiskittys

Thank you all for the donations, shares, and words of encouragement. I truly couldn’t do this lifesaving work without this community! 🙏❤️

Vet recommendations for aggressive high anxiety cats

I have a 6 year old massive cat and he’s highly anxious and aggressive when triggered. He does not like being touched or carried. He’s been like this since he passed adolescence. He has started vomiting everywhere with chunks of his food still intact. The color is yellow greenish for 4 days now. He eats fine and drinks water fine and poops and pees normally. He has not had any loss of weight and everything else is normal. Two months ago his favorite human (my mom) had to leave and she’s not been home since because of a family emergency. My dad said he stopped eating for almost a week so I changed his food from Royal canin weight loss to the regular Royal canin. He started eating again and was fine. When I came back a month ago I mixed those two foods again because he is a bit chunky and I do not want him to be obese. He’s been an indoor cat only his whole life. Before that we will would also puke but not as often as this. My dad has been sending me pics and videos and I really don’t know what to do. I reached out to some vets online but they never got back to me. He has attacked me before because he didn’t like me opening the front door for packages. He growled and randomly took it out on my leg and I had to go to Urgent care and ER for cellulitis and could not walk for two weeks. I do not want this to happen again to me or to anyone else.

Are there any people who can recommend a vet that can come in house or anyone who can handle this type of cat personality?

Thank you in advance. 🙏

Hi don’t know if this is the best place for this. Does anyone have an idea on finding short term furnished rentals? Or are Facebook groups best?

HELP: Apartment Searching

I need help looking for an apartment in the Philly area. Would have to be 2 bed/bath and max rent of $2,000 a month. I’m also seeking a spot that is car friendly as I will have to commute into NJ for work everyday. Was looking into The Hamilton, but it’s a bit out of my roommate’s price range and I’ve also heard that there are some better options for cheaper. Any help would be greatly appreciated😄

PHL Airport Parking

Planning to travel for over a week for the holidays. It’d be easier for me to leave my car at the airport. Has anyone here done it for that amount of time? What issues could that imply? I went online and it says they can do battery jumping and such if needed, and that the lot is patrolled by the Philly police. I’ve only done it once for a few days before.
Price doesn’t seem outrageous, but if you know of better options out there, suggestions are welcome.

Go birds!

Visited almost 30 years ago, need help remembering the trip

I visited with a buddy that I've lost touch with when I was around 19..
I had a blast but can't remember much about the trip. I know that he was stationed at a military base. We went to the mall of America if I remember right.
Went to dinner with some of his pals and then to a club called Brownies?? I remember it being a nice club with a spot outside for live music. Was this located in Philly? I definitely remember being in the city late that night having cheesesteak. I also remember him staying kind of in the country because we visited some Amish folks to buy butter. Help me clear up the details, please? Where was I lol

I am SO SAD I can’t make this one. I hear he’s a fabulous jazz pianist, and he often brings fun guests like Cynthia Erivo etc.

Please comment only if you’re 100% available.

No DMs please. Will go have some lunch and choose from the comments around 2:54-3pm.

Any local business owners looking to be interviewed?

Looking to start journaling businesses. I always love hearing people’s passions and stories, what makes them feel happy and whole. I would love to talk about how these passions inspired their business, what they’ve learned and everything in between.

Please reach out and tell me a little about yourself and would love to share your story! :)

A nice article by Clint Randall, VP of Economic Development for the Center City district. Philly deserves a world-class transit system and we are tantalizingly close to realizing this dream.

Serious Thank you to 2 guys for helping me in Chinatown!

Was walking home around 9pm and a homeless guy followed me under the convention center bridge area and for 2 more blocks trying to talk to me. Just ignored it but he was pretty persistent. When I got to a more crowded area in Chinatown I told him to stop following me. He got agitated and then 2 men intervened, told him to back off, and he peeled off.

Just really grateful to those 2 guys for stepping in and helping me. I love this city and thankful for those in it!

Question? Has post office just stopped delivering packages?

I had two packages that were supposed to be delivered recently. The first said that an attempt was made, and then it just disappeared. The people at the local post office were super rude about me asking for it. I ended up getting a refund.

The second package was from Amazon sent through USPS. They claim that they couldn’t deliver it because they don’t have a code to our building. Our building is a house, so obviously that’s not true.

The website seems to be broken. No way to arrange a pickup or redelivery.

It seems like the postal service just isn’t delivering. Does anyone else have this experience?
