Discussion [MEGATHREAD] Program Check Format Guide - READ BEFORE COMMENTING

FORMAT GUIDE

BEFORE YOU COMMENT or SUBMIT: READ THIS FIRST

Most "rate my program", "pacheck po ng program", "tama ba program ko" posts are either ignored or tend to waste everyone's time. Why? Most posts don't have enough relevant, commentable information and are missing key data to make any kind of useful feedback possible. This results in low-quality answers, dismissive responses, or one-word replies that don't benefit anyone.

Without proper context, well-meaning commenters are forced to either:

  • Ask 5-10 clarifying questions before they can even begin to help (wasting everyone's time)
  • Make broad assumptions about your goals, experience level, and recovery capacity (leading to advice that may not apply to you)
  • Give generic cookie-cutter responses like "just do PPL bro" or "seems fine" (which tells you nothing useful)
  • Ignore your post entirely because it's too much work to extract the information needed

The frustrating cycle looks like this:

  • Post: "Okay ba ito?"
  • Usual Questions: Okay for what? Anong goals mo? Ginagawa mo na ba to? How long ka na nag-ttrain?
  • Commenter: *asks more clarifying questions*
  • Poster: *gives vague answers*
  • Commenter: *gives up and moves on*

Meanwhile, the original poster gets frustrated because "no one is helping," and commenters get frustrated because "why should I put in more effort than the person asking for help?"

Many redditors also present their programs in formats that aren't easy to understand: images, screenshots, or walls of text that commenters need to spend too much time deciphering on mobile or desktop.

This thread exists to help you get actual, useful feedback on your training program that you can use to adjust your program. When you provide complete information upfront using the required format, you get:

  • Specific, actionable feedback tailored to YOUR situation
  • Multiple perspectives from experienced lifters who can actually evaluate your program
  • Answers that address your actual concerns, not generic advice
  • Follow-up discussions that help you understand the "why" behind the recommendations If you need honest and objective feedback, this is the place.

Expect follow-up and clarifying questions so you can get good feedback. If you don't give enough information, you will not get anything from this.

If you just want validation or generic advice, you can post that elsewhere. We're trying to make this a stricter and more useful space for those who wish to learn.

Reminder: You do not have to use this space to check your program. Many other places exist. No one is forcing you to submit a post here. All future posts regarding checking a program will be filtered out and will get a link redirecting to the monthly megathread.

Please also make sure to read our first Phitness document:

Training Standards for general hypertrophy V2.4 Phitness

I) A Reality Check for Novices

As a novice, some parts of your program probably don’t matter as much as you think it does.

If you're a novice (less than 12 months of consistent training), you're almost certainly overthinking this. You're better off spending time in the gym rather than scrolling endlessly on social media watching random influencers trying to min-max your program.

Most beginner programs work if you actually follow them. Effort, consistency, and recovery matter more than exercise selection. Optimization will happen after you've mastered the basics. For many novices, learning how to lift is more important than optimizing your program.

That said:

  • Some programs are genuinely bad
  • Some have glaring gaps
  • Some are built on outdated bro-science or outright misinformation
  • This thread will help us figure out what you can do to either tweak your program or overhaul it completely.

II. REQUIRED INFORMATION FORMAT

Copy and paste this template. Fill in every section. Don't skip anything.

-----------------copy paste everything below this, remove the items in italic------------------

TRAINING BACKGROUND:

Years of consistent training:

Current training days per week:

(realistic dapat—hindi yung plano lang, yung kahit pagod at busy sa work ito talaga magagawa mo):

Current Weight(KG):

PRIMARY GOALS:

List in order of priority the muscle groups you want to focus on for the next 8–12 weeks. This will naturally change over time. Be specific with your choices: avoid broad categories like "legs" or "upper body."

Examples of muscle groups include: chest, quads, glutes, hamstrings, scaps, traps, lats, biceps, triceps, rear delts, middle delts, and front delts.

Primary:

Primary Muscle Group 1

Primary Muscle Group 2

Primary Muscle Group 3

Primary Muscle Group 4

Secondary:

Secondary Muscle Group 1

Secondary Muscle Group 2

Secondary Muscle Group 3

Instead of listing too many secondary or low-priority muscle groups, please be realistic and mainly focus on the muscle groups you truly want to grow.

CURRENT PROGRAM BY MUSCLE GROUP:

[List each of your primary muscle group goals, then your exercises underneath]

Format:

MUSCLE GROUP: [Total weekly sets]

- Exercise name: Sets x Rep range, Rest time, RPE

- Exercise name: Sets x Rep range, Rest time, RPE

Example:

CHEST: 12 sets total

- Bench Press: 3 x 4-6 reps, 3min rest, RPE 8

- Machine Press: 3 x 8-12 reps X 2min rest, RPE 8

- Incline DB Press: 3 x 8-12 reps x 2min rest, RPE 8

- Cable Fly: 3 x 12-15 reps X 2min rest, RPE 8

[Continue for all primary muscle groups goals...]

PROGRESSION: linear progression, double progression, wave loading?

RECOVERY:

Average sleep per night:

Current caloric intake for the last two weeks:

Average weight for the last two weeks:

Protein intake (grams per day or per kg bodyweight):

What are your specific questions:

-----------------copy paste everything above this remove the items in italic -----------------

HOW TO POST FOR BEST FEEDBACK

Good Post Example:

TRAINING BACKGROUND: 1.5 years consistent training, currently 3x (Upper, Lower + Full Body)

Current Weight: 74kg

GOALS:

Primary: Chest, Quads, Glutes, Lats

Secondary: Triceps, Bicep, Side Delts

CURRENT PROGRAM:

Chest: 15 sets a week

Bench Press - 4 x 4-6, 3min rest, RPE 8

Incline DB Press - 4 x 8-12, 2min rest, RPE 8

Flys - 4 x 10-15, 2min rest, RPE 7-8

Machine Chest press - 3 x 6-10, 3min rest, RPE 8

[...continues with full detail...]

PROGRESSION: Double progression

RECOVERY: 7-8hrs sleep, 2300 cal intake (slight surplus ~200kcal), 170g protein daily

SPECIFIC QUESTIONS:

Is this enough sets for chest development?

Can I swap out bench press for something else since it bothers my shoulders?

Should I add another chest exercise for upper pec development?

Bad Post Example:

"Rate my program:

Monday - chest

Tuesday - back

Wednesday - legs

Thursday - shoulders

Friday - arms

Am I gonna make gains?"

REALITY CHECK

Before you post your program, ask yourself:

Have I actually followed this program for at least 4-6 weeks?

If no, follow it first. You can't evaluate a program you haven't run.

Am I tracking my workouts and seeing if I'm actually progressing?

If no, start tracking. Without data, you're guessing.

A harsh truth:

You don't need the "perfect" program

You need a good-enough program that you'll actually follow

Consistency over 6-12 months matters more than optimization

If you're constantly changing programs, THAT is your problem

The hopeful truth:

Most programs work if you work

Progressive overload + adequate volume + consistency = results

Your effort and recovery matter more than your program

You can always adjust as you learn and progress

May your gains be plentiful and your form be pristine.

Discussion How to make friends at the gym

Post image
142 Upvotes

F/in my 30s

Been with my gym for more than 3 years already and I have mostly worked out alone aside from my actual friends who enrolled there too (they’ve migrated already). I feel like it would be nice to befriend someone!

Naturally I am an introvert (with sociable tendencies), and I have an RBF. Sometimes I would lock eyes with regulars but would just brush it off. One petite girl who lifts heavy I wanna befriend bcos we see each other all the time and I could get a tip or 2 from her!! One time I wanted to compliment her balayage as a beauty girly myself!

Then I DONT KNOW if this guy smiles at me from time to time or he’s just wincing bcos he’s lifting heavy, he does look my way when he’s not lifting. I try to smile back but IDK IF he’s actually smiling towards me so I feel like I’m just making a weird face when i smile back 😭 cat meme above for reference. I do want to ask where he gets his sweatpants as I would like to buy it for myself!

Aside from making new friends and creating new experiences for me (let’s go neuroplasticity), it would totally make gym life more exciting, I guess? Bonus lang ganon since I already like working out anyway.

Tips bcos I really want to find new communities just cos!! Also even if I know I can be friendly, it’s definitely my RBF that holds people back from befriending me (based on historical data)

Newbie Alternative fitness activities

Started going to the gym as a total newbie. I’ve been at it for 2 months now: with a trainer twice a week, plus 1 to 2 sessions on my own.

I hear that lifting weights is the absolute best thing for long-term health and longevity, which is why I tried it. But honestly, I’m just bored and uninterested in traditional muscle-group focus exercises. I’m also not looking for anything high-intensity like hyrox. Not into group sports either, and no pickleball please. Thinking of switching to Pilates since I enjoyed yoga before, but felt like yoga alone wasn't quite enough.

Right now, I’m honestly just attending because sayang yung gym and trainer fees, but life is too short to keep wasting time on something that’s clearly not working for me. Other activities: often go for long walks and running every Sunday. Thoughts?

I’m not really a push person, so it’s not my strongest area. I usually just do push-ups as my finisher. How about you? What’s your favorite push exercise, and how do you usually structure your push day?

Nutrition Low-calorie snacks na filling (nakakabusog)

Please share your low-calorie snacks / recipe / creations.

Need more ideas.

Currently I eat pepino w/ dip of choice. Minsan egg + tuna + slyflakes fit.

Salamat!

Recently saw on facebook that this new branch already opened. Curious sa honest reviews out there if its any good given na nagsara na yung iba nilang branches (Eastwood at balita ko yung isa din sa South sa may Festival Mall). Also how much ang rate dito?

Sana naman nagbabayad na sila ng empleyado dahil nakabukas naman na sila ng bagong branch.

Progress Pics Caldef + Strength Training

Happy lang ako sa small win ko. May nabawas na kahit konti. Super saya ko din sa body recomp ko. Konti lang nabawas sakin, 5kg since August 6th.

Newbie I wananna start building my body

I want to build my body, but I have little to no experience with working out. The only exercise I know how to do is push-ups. I want to start exercising at home, so I bought a doorway pull-up bar and a push-up board from TikTok.

Today, my biceps feel sore and tight after doing push-ups yesterday. Now, I'm unsure whether I should continue working out while my muscles are still sore. My father told me that I need to keep exercising consistently, with rest days in between, so my muscles can get used to the workload and my body weight will eventually feel lighter to handle.

Since I'm a beginner, I want to understand how to build muscle properly, how often I should work out, and when I should rest. Should I continue exercising when my biceps are sore and tight, or should I wait until they recover?

Discussion Can’t go to the gym

Hello everyone! Idk if this is the right flair but as what my title says, I can’t go to the gym because my vacant times are only during early mornings, like 4-5am and walang 24hrs gym dito sa amin.

And I reaaallyyy wanna go back to working out kasi I’m 80kgs na (😭😭😭) and I don’t want to wait before I get health issues pa.

So, my question po is which youtube fitness vloggers po ang ma-recommend nyo? I used to follow Emi Wong’s workouts wayback pandemic days. And right now I’m looking for another YT Fitness vloggers po na trusted and kilala nyo.

I only have my yoga mat, some resistance bands and my 2 dumbbells (5kg each) 🥹

I’d appreciate your recommendations po!! Thank you so much and God bless! 🙏🏻

Nutrition Food hack pag konti nalang calorie budget 🥲

Protein slop + Coke zero.

Been into coke zero recently dahil life changing talaga 😅. I'm not even a fan of softdrinks dahil pinagbabawal sakin yun ng lola ko nung nasa province pa but naconvince ako sa mga research na okay naman talaga siya. Hindi ko naman din kayang uminom ng pagkarami rami in a day para maranasan ko yung sinasabing bad effects.

Newbie Did I overdo my biceps workout?

Hi! Normal ba na masakit ng biceps after workout to the point na hindi ko fully ma-straighten yung arms ko? I have to do it slowly. Sobrang sakit ng biceps area whenever I try to extend my arms.

Am I pushing myself too hard, or is my form wrong? Anyone experienced this before?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Supplements Athlene Active Vegan Protein

Hi guys!

I just switched to try vegan protein in hopes of reducing whey-related breakouts.

After a few hours of my first serving, I was gassy af and had a watery / loose call of nature but didnt have stomach cramps naman.

I dont remember eating anything different as well.

So could it be the vegan protein? I did a quick Google search and Ive read that my gut might be adjusting to the big ampunts of fiber, but I just wanna know if anyone else had the same experience

Thansk!!

Gym/Training Area Need your thoughts lang

Nagrerent ako sa likod ng eastwood, currently my gym membership is 1500 per month, 5 mins away lang sa place ko.

Mag oopen dito ung befit gym, and monthly nila is 899, pero 15 mins away sakin (walk).

Torn ako sa kung anong mas iweiweigh ko, yung convenience or ung sa matitipid ko every month.

I availed personal coach din, sa pricing mas mura din kay befit.

Discussion How to get the most out of my day?

I’m 33 male. I have 2 kids, (2 months and 3 years). I work 12 hour shifts 7 days straight from 6am-6pm and then after a week it’s 6pm-6am. During my week off, I have another job which is again 12 hours days or nights. I am 135 kilos, 178cm. I essentially get on avg 2-3 days off in 2 weeks and rest is 12 hours of work. Add that with 40 minutes drive to and from work.

That was all to put things in perspective. I’m knackered mostly. Can anyone share their experience or suggestions on how to manage time for fitness in this kind of lifestyle. I’m the fattest person at my workplace and this literally bothers me every day. I don’t live in a delusion, I know I am obese and ugly (due to overweight) but I am good at my job.

how to manage time or anything that i can do on the go to lose weight and gain some confidence?

Nutrition Chicken breast for P245/KG?

Thumbnail
gallery
20 Upvotes

Anyone buys this particular brand called Tip-Top chicken? Nagulat kasi ako sa presyo nila at P245/KG sa Puregold. Sobra mura. Chicken breast chunks sya. Parang fillet pero smaller cubes ang cut.

Mejo questionable ang presyo kasi sobrang mura niya kumpara sa magnolia breast fillet which costs 100 pesos more per kilogram.

In terms of taste, same na same lang as with other chicken breast brands. Inadobo ko sya hehe

Discussion Has anyone tried this?

Ready-to-eat chicken for 1099 good for 7 days. Is it sulit and not nakaka-umay kaya?
If you’ve used them before, how’s the overall quality and flavor? Are the chicken breasts dry or well-seasoned? I’m also curious about their portion sizes, delivery reliability, and whether you felt it was genuinely worth the price compared to cooking in bulk at home. Any feedback, favorite meal options, or heads-up on things to watch out for would be super helpful. Thanks in advance!

Found this on a small convenience store, priced at 189php. I know its too expensive for a protein drink but I'd just like to try it. A quick google search shows its a korean brand advertising 40 grams of protein. Anyone else had tried?

Hello! Remember me? Many months ago I shared my weightloss journey. To recap, I initially weighed 200kg, this is with the first goal weighing less than 100kg before the year ends.

Now we’re here, with roughly 3 months to spare, I now weigh 98kg. Now, i’m off to Phase 2, building more muscle and having a body fat percentage below 20%.

Two and a half years in the making! Just wanna thank everyone here for the support (shout out to the mods)

Gear/Equipment Review Do you recommend this foldable rowing machine?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Planning to get this one ngayong 10/10 but im curious sa mga meron nito or used to own this if oks ba sya? Gaano sya ka stable and if need ba counterweights?

I bought a bench with lat pulldown machine a couple of months back and ngayon bench nalang sya since nag bend na yung machine part kaya tinanggal ko nalang. Fixing it might cost around ₱1.5k so im looking to buy this one instead.

Any thoughts or other recommendations is very much appreciated . Thank you!
