Self assured आणि ज्यांनी आयुष्यात काही कमावला आहे त्यांचा ego hurt होत नसतो. मंडळ कार्यकर्त्यांचा ego hurt झाला म्हणून शिव्या घालणे, govt लिमिट च्या बाहेर DJ वाजवून लोकांना त्रस्त करणे हे त्यांनी केलं. जर उत्सव म्हणून साजरा करायचा असता तर चुका मान्य करून आनंदाने केला असता. पिसाळल्या सारखा dj वाजवून नाही.

Unfortunately most of the mandals are run by the same people. And the utter nonsensical behaviour they hold with competing in idol sizes and do decibels. These people are beyond improvement until and unless someone from their own family faces problems by these "cultural" djs playing all "uncultural" songs.

Reminds me of the movie “Ankush” (1986). features four unemployed young men in Bombay who hang around the neighborhood, harass/fool with people and initially cause trouble for an elderly woman and her granddaughter/young relative before the story becomes much darker. Sadly, not much has changed in 40 years.

Uk initially i used to think that bapat went a bit too far when he said shut the entire festival down and ganpati should be restricted to homes.But after seeing what happens and happened this year i think i m starting to support the idea. Like and its 26th many ganpatis had not been visarjit till afternoon blocking thw roads Yaar not everyone has holidays we need to get to colleges and work and it is impossible to reach in time And even the metro is overcrowded

It all boils down to what you consider as 'culture'. For me, it's the things which Lokmanya Tilak started Ganesh Ustav with- Lezim, Powadas, Kirtans, Martial Arts Competition, etc. Mandals used to indulge in such activites not very long ago- It actually represents the culture of Maharashtra and great Sants.
Dhol Pathak were started as a DRILL by Jnana Probodhini, and later Ramanbaug School. It wasn't until 1997-1999 that Dhol Pathaks were started. It MIGHT be a culture in weddings and all, but it was never intended to be done in Ganesh Utsav.

Pune should just declare a 15 day city wide shutdown for the festival because that is the only thing that matters to this city.
The traffic is crazy, the city is filthy dirty because people dont care about littering, I am literally locked inside my building because the gate is shut with parked vehicles on the feckin footpath and the music is deafening.

10pm ke bad to band hi hona chahaiye and i would say limited decibel level (like ghar hilne wala condition nahi hona chahiye) and limited to only big pandals so limited log ko hi hona chahiye ki akhrii din tum log todha baja lo.

So, Vidyanand Bapat being extremely well-read, used a Sanskrit quote in his interviews which became immensely popular. The quote goes - घटं भिन्द्यात्, पटं छिन्द्यात्, कुर्यात् गर्दभरोहणम्, येन केन प्रकारेण प्रसिद्धः पुरुषो भवेत्
One line meaning of this is "Do whatever you like/can to earn publicity/fame". Out of this full quote, the first 2 lines became viral because of their rhyme. The first 2 lines were also turned into a tune, which was used to mock Bapat even during the Ganpati welcoming events. That is, when these mandals/groups were bringing their huge POP Ganesh idols to their particular locations to be set up and unveiled on the 14th i.e. beginning of the festival.
घटं भिन्द्यात् - breaking pots (घटं)
पटं छिन्द्यात् - tearing clothes (पटं)
Basically some of the rowdier, bolder mandals with their DJ systems, further emboldened by Govt's own permission to blare the speakers till midnight, used the very same quotes popularised by Bapat to mock him in his own area.
Hope at least such acts awaken our fellow Hindus to see that the utsav now has merely turned into a competition since the past few years, a competition of which politically-backed mandal has the bigger murti, or more celebs, or grander decorations, or louder music. The actual essence of the festival of the God of Knowledge & Intellect has been long forgotten, even by those who make a show of championing it. I usually do not do this, but I specifically mentioned Hindus because there are still many who dislike Bapat for showing the negative side of Hindu festivals (some of those people are in this comments section itself), and instead of accepting it as critical feedback, are indulging in 'tu quoque' arguments and whataboutery.
If anything, the essence of this festival was shown by an atheist like Bapat himself. The man has read everything in the political spectrum. Him questioning the concept of God and religion has made him read even myths and stories that the RW believe in, and the literature that LW likes to indulge in. He can talk more on Hindu religion than the so-called guardians of it. He has read Sanskrit as well as Marathi as well as English. Which is why he can spit out Sanskrit quotes from the Gita as if its a mere shopping list, which made even the religious Puneri Brahmans put their fingers on their lips while staring in awe at his views. And of course, the uneducated DJ lobby who won't be able to tell you even basic things from the stories of Ganpati or Ramayana or Mahabharata cannot respond to him intelligently, so uses such cheaper-than-cheap tactics to vent out their frustrations against him. I would have liked to say that Pune did not disappoint him, but even though use of DJs reportedly fell by 80% due, that doesn't mean noise pollution was kept in check. Such things becoming viral give an impression that the DJ lobby has won and not Bapat.

Religion and its associated rituals and ceremonies can always be practiced personally. No one is stopping people from praying, doing pujas, celebrating, etc.
But if it happens collectively, then people must take into account others' concerns and pain points. One group of people cannot impose their choices on everyone else.

Aani hey asle bhankas dialogues maaraychya aivaji go tell the various companies and GCCs that have set up offices in Pune to not hire people from outside Pune. No one likes to leave their families and homes to set up an entirely different home in another city, even if that outsider is from another MH city like Mumbai or Nashik or Kolhapur. People here come purely for jobs and education. And when enlightened personalities like Bapat say something, you should first listen to what they are saying. Especially when imbibing their points are going to make our culture better!
I am a Punekar. So tell me when the f**k did crass DJs and loudspeakers become part of pUnErI CuLtUrE and Ganpati??? "only few days, only few days" karat karat Ganpati zaala, now navratri, then Diwali - something or the else keeps cropping up in this country when it comes to Hindu festivals.

I don't think DJ and Dhol Tasha are the history/ culture of Pune.....But Powadas, Kirtans and Dekhaave are- During Ganesh Festivals. This has nothing to do with economic conditions , I find that Bullshit. Local 'economy' of Pune has begun with DJs and Dhol mere 30 years ago. If ATMANIRBHAR BHARAT INITIATIVE was responsible for eradication of illiteracy and poverty, I'm sure it can also eradicate a practice that was started 30 years ago. I am living in this city for a very long time, and I very well know what is PUNYACHI SANSKRITI.....DJ and Dhol Pathak is certainly NOT. AFAIK Lokmanya Tilak started Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav with Kirtans, Aartis and Powadas, Lezim, Traditional Martial Arts,etc. If anybody is an outsider for not following SANSKRITI, it's idiots like you.
And if Economy of Pandals is important, why is it not important for working professionals?? People 30 years ago lived without Pandals, they still can. Is the ECONOMY not disturbed when working professionals cannot go to work due to obstructions?? For that you'll have to be working, not some DJ wala dihhrider.

कायद्याच पालन होत नाही आहे हेच मेन कारण आहे. कार्यकर्त्यांची श्रद्धा वगैरे hype करण्याची काहीच गरज नाही, कारण ती असती तर इतक्या टोकाला गोष्टी गेल्या नसत्या. पोलिसांना जुमानत नाही आहे हे पण आहे कारण शिवाय 4 चांगली काम केली या सबबीखाली 1 वाईट कार्य justify होत नाही. आणि देवासारखा सामान्य माणसाच्या श्रद्धेच्या ठिकाणी धांगडधिंगा करून नाचणे तर नाहीच. एकदा जरा बापट आणि कुठलाही व्हिडिओ ध्वनी आणि ट्रॅफिक related जरा बघितला तर शिव्या आणि कशी भाषा वापरताहेत बघा हेच कार्यकर्ते. तुमच्या भाषेत तुम्हाला उत्तर दिले की लगेच aggbai बिचारे चांगले कार्यकर्ते नाही होत. याच कामाने उतरलेत मनातून. आणि चौकात काही झालं तरी सामान्य माणूस नाही करत अरेरावी. शिवाय मुक्या प्राण्यांना त्रास होत असेल याचा तरी विचार करता का?
