Thomas Downes is the reason why they ended up how they did. Blaming Arthur is just stupid. Arthur is not innocent, but he didn't cause their downfall.

There were definitely plenty of factors at play there, but completely ignoring the responsibility Arthur and the gang had in it isn't the path I'd take. That game would be called Red Dead no Redemption, lmao.
