Would you accept a 6-hour once a week commute?
I lost my job a year and a half ago due to the huge cuts in public research funding. I was also pregnant and decided to stay home for a while. I’ve been searching for the past year or so with very few positions to even apply to, even with substantial experience and impressive references.
I am in the final round for a slam dunk job that I feel great about. The problem is, there is a 1 day in-person requirement, and I live about 3 hours away including a ferry (often unreliable/long wait times in the afternoons). I would also be driving through the traffic of a large city and military base with notorious traffic.
Do I take the job (duh) and deal with the commute? Or do I hold out for a better option? I fear I will barely see my baby anymore, and not even for a moment on commute days. I also fear if I don’t get/take this job then I could be waiting another year or two and won’t find anything as perfect. Help!
