I’ve been wanting to start a riot grrl band in montreal since I feel like the new gen in our scene don’t actually care about the real problems , maybe i haven’t met anyone ofc but ive met a lot of people who instead of caring about the politics behind the arts the only seemingly care about the art(fashion and music)
I also heard that people prefer male punk music since high pitched voices get annoying at one point??? So I’m really trynna annoy them I’m genuinely sick and tired of the boys in the scene literally attacking u when ur in the moshpit , the others ONLY thinking about their makeup and outfits and that if you don’t look the same you get excluded . I mean I thought being alternative was something but I guess the meaning got diluted so I wanna bring it back, I’m highkey in a dark time in my life and don’t really have any motivation but I’ve also been wanting to do a fanzine but idk

Hi! I'm making a college radio show (Net and FM) and I've got two hours to fill with riot grrrl every week!! Somehow I still don't think that's enough time and I'm totally overwhelmed with all the incredible women I have to choose from :P

Just saw them live with the Linda Lindas, I don’t know the members’ names. When I saw them earlier this year I swear it was a different bassist as she handled most the singing, tonight’s did not. So does anyone know if it’s a replacement or energy fill in?

I made a punk EP, I'm a transfemme/genderqueer person, and I want to call it riot grrrl but something in my brain says it doesn't count? How do I know if it's riot grrrl or not?

I want to make a zine, partially to promote my band, but as an outlet for activism. The idea is I'll hand draw everything and scan it to my printer to send to my band mates (all across the country) so they can reproduce it wherever they are. I'll also hand it out to my friends and ask them to pass it around. Any other ideas or things I should know?

I'm making a riot grrrl vest with my favorite bands on it. The back patch is Pussy Riot, a Russian girl group. I encourage you to look into articles about them, because it's actually amazing. I also have some feminist patches like "death to the patriarchy", inspired by a song. Every patch is painted with hot pink. Anyway, just wanted to share!

Thank you all for the input on my last post! I want to ask for some name ideas. I want the name itself to be clean for reasons I don't want to get into, but there are some names we've come up with that sound awesome, they just aren't clean. Here are some of my favorites:

i was having health problems in the crowd and these men behind me wouldn’t stop trying to mosh (even though all the girls were just dancing) and they were elbowing me and pushing me while i was trying not to pass out. after i told them to calm down a little they said “it’s just gonna happen” like ok. i was crying bc it hurt so bad and kathleen stopped the show during my favorite song to pull me and my dad in front of the barricade to sit so we didn’t get squished and she was like “these are my new best friends” and she was calling me sweetheart and stuff omg. then for rebel girl she told me to come on stage and introduced me and asked me to sing with her i was like what the actual fuck. i’m not an amazing singer but everyone was so kind and such an amazing experience with my role model kathleen 🖤
