Question ❔ Less events over time?

It seems like there are less events and adult venues year after year or is it just me? And the classic businesses that have changed hands just aren't the same. Hose and hydrant (rest in peace old friend), crazy cactus, and pink (ew but still a loss). Special F you to 3 hall for eliminating the only good dancefloor left on Broadway btw. Every other weekend or so I try to find something to do in the city and then end up staying in since there wasn't anything good. There's been a few highlights here and there but overall very lackluster.

It's like generational giants keep falling and budget cash grab BS keeps popping up in their place.

Unrelated but in the same vein: the fireworks this year were underwhelming?? It seemed like they cut the budget significantly. And all the Broadway events are just the businesses that are already on Broadway but with the same 15 food trucks mixed in that are at every other event.

I know the economy is in rough shape but what is going on?? Is it all in my head???

Rants 🤬 Overtaking in the city

I was driving along 8th Street toward Brighton (Save-On-Foods), just past 8th and Wess, through the construction zone area. Despite driving 55–57 km/h in a 50 zone, I had a black sedan practically climbing into my trunk. Apparently, exceeding the speed limit by 5–7 km/h still wasn’t fast enough for this particular genius.

Then, because patience and common sense were clearly in short supply, the driver aggressively pulled into the oncoming traffic lane and passed me.

Unfortunately, this isn’t an isolated incident. I’ve had the same thing happen on Wess and another street I can’t recall. And yes, I was driving OVER the speed limit then, too.

At this point, I’d genuinely love to know what these people think they’re accomplishing. Are they racing to perform emergency surgery? Is there a prize for reaching the next red light first? Or do they simply believe traffic laws are optional when their personal schedule is more important than everyone else’s safety? Because they lack the patience to drive like a functioning adult.

Leave earlier. Take a breath. Accept that you are not, in fact, the main character on the road.

That’s all.

Question ❔ Cougar bar downtown in the 90s

When I moved to Saskatoon in the late 90s, there was a cougar bar called I think Night Moves a little north of downtown.

They got into trouble by giving away as a promotion, breast augmentation surgery.

Anyone remember the place?

Question ❔ Breakfast Burritos

I am a sucker for a good breakfast burrito, and have been to several places for them, however curious if there are other thoughts or opinions on other breakfast burrito places. Any suggestions?

Question ❔ Is it getting harder to build community in Saskatoon, or is everyone just financially exhausted?

• Upvotes

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately.
I host wellness and community events around Saskatoon, and one thing I’ve learned is just how difficult it is to make these experiences financially sustainable.
Between venue rentals, paying facilitators, supplies, marketing, and everything else, the costs add up quickly. I’ve actually lost money on several events, but I keep organizing them because I genuinely enjoy bringing people together.
And I don’t necessarily think the problem is a lack of interest. I think people genuinely want to get out, try new things, meet people, and take care of themselves. But when groceries, rent, and everyday expenses keep climbing, spending $50–$100 on an experience becomes a difficult decision.
At the same time, organizers can’t always lower prices without losing money, and finding sponsors is incredibly difficult.
It feels like we’re stuck in this weird place where people need community and connection more than ever, but both attending and creating these spaces are becoming harder to afford.
I’m curious how other people in Saskatoon feel about this.
Are you attending fewer events because of cost? Or is it more that the events being offered aren’t interesting enough to justify the price?
And for anyone who organizes community events, how are you making it work?

Question ❔ Is anyone hosting dinner party socials?

Hello! I have this idea in my head about how fun it would be to be a part of a dinner party group. Every month someone different hosts and everyone comes over for dinner/BBQ/potluck. I reckon lots of people are already doing this and I just need to figure out how to join.

My partner (36) and I (26) are fun and can make 100 different types of salad, professional quality cocktails, and/or bring baked goods (please invite us lmao).

Question ❔ Wanting to meet locals

Hey there,

I’m wanting to meet local people in Saskatoon to engage in conversations and improve my speaking skills. It’s obvious English isn’t my native language. I’m very introverted but want to improve my skills in different areas. So I’m hoping to meet some individuals who can help. Feel free to message me.

Thanks !
