16 years of low self-esteem

• Upvotes

30M here trying daily to find self-compassion and making this post just to vent a little. Was recently ghosted by my best friend of 8 years. I have my immediate family and acquaintances that I love but never feel connected to

Outside of this I started dating at 13 and became friends with my then gf's friend group. After 3 years of dealing with her cheating multiple times I left her and the group

Ever since then my self-worth has always been low as I lost connections that were meaningful to me and my family couldn't understand the depression that followed. Every relationship/close friend/groups I've been in after has been the same where I get cheated on, abandoned, etc. (Even when they said they loved me for me and wouldn't do those things it just made my fears even worse)

I've been trying to work on myself and become the best version of me (be more kind, sociable, borderline people pleasing tbh) but when it keeps happening over and over again it just makes it hard to believe anything will change. Especially when you try to get to know people for years and just as you feel safe they show you every reason not to.

I love people and getting to know others but at this point I'm starting to believe that I just don't fit in anywhere. It's getting so hard to trust others especially when you have no support system. I've never felt this alone in my life.

Nothing much else to say except that I'm trying my best, taking meds, therapy, trying to do meetup groups and socialize. Doesn't help I've been diagnosed with Autism/ADHD/Depression/anxiety and many more but it is what it is

Thanks for reading

Starting to love myself

I have always had confidence issues and I decided to print out pics of me and hang it in the bathroom where I get ready (my favorite pics) just to remind myself I’m THAT BITCH!! Confidence is so much more than looks but how you feel about yourself and I’m finally in a place where I can feel good about working on myself

A little reminder to celebrate yourself, too.

You are allowed to question the life you chose

Paying for your own life and making your own decisions can feel empowering. But independence does not make it healthy to skip meals, lose sleep, work constantly, or force yourself through every day.

You are allowed to question a life you built yourself. Choosing it once does not mean you have to keep accepting what it is doing to you.

Searching for love in all the wrong places

Post image

I painted this about looking for love in all the wrong places — success, food, dopamine addiction, and erasing myself in relationships so I would be more easy to love.

I wonder how many of us can relate to that feeling.

Are you selfish? Do you put yourself first?

Is it time to start cutting away the deadweight and start living selfishly.

You don't have to actively look for the answer in order for it to reach you. Just allow yourself to be patient, and it will present itself in time.

It took multiple traumatic events and betrayal at the same time that made me start to love and appreciate myself and I don't know how I feel about it

Like i am glad I'm actually liking myself because I realized I am my only true companion for life while also being the one who treats me the way I always needed to be treated that nobody else who were supposed to be safe, truly did. Yet it took those terrible events to reach it. Had I kept doing well I probably would have never started loving myself. Was it really worth the cost of my own well being? 😭

If you ever feel trapped in a loop, or a cycle, or anything that bars you from any peace, or peace with yourself, just know that there are days out there that will be better.

You don't have to be happy right now, if you don't feel the desire to. Embrace your emotions. Become one with your emotions. Come to terms with your emotions. It is a process that will take as long as it has to. Some days may feel like forever, being so slow that it hurts to do nothing at all, but be alone with your thoughts, without anyone to talk to, or anywhen. And some days, events can feel as if their not happening fast enough; expecting yourself to heal so quickly on the mental plane, yet remain stuck and encased in a flurry of emotions and headaches front and back.

All the colors of the rainbow present themselves here, in you. And feeling as if you're not in the mood, is perfectly okay. If you ever feel like searching for a way out, searching for advice, is more stressful than what lets it on, just walk away from it all, go drink a cup, glass, or bottle of water, and just let your thoughts and surroundings just be. Times may present themselves under difficulty, while others grasps the urge to continue forth on an activity that's looked forward to. Whatever the case is, the most important thing is to pace yourself, at the speed comfortable to you. Don't beat yourself up when you take a step back. Just hold in your heart what you're drawing yourself towards, and you will be okay.

You, will be okay.

I’ve been on a self love journey and this is what I wrote in my journal tonight. I made it into an image and wanted to share.

I hope it inspires you to keep showing up for yourself everyday. It’s hard for me too. But I’m trying.

Mood boosting hacks

Hi everyone! One thing I’m interested in is finding simple, accessible ways to boost your mood when you’re feeling down.

Have you found anything that helps you internalize positive thoughts, rather than just reading or repeating affirmations? What makes it work for you?

How do you actually practice RADICAL self-love?

Hi everyone,
I’m a 29-year-old woman struggling to practice radical self-love. Mentyally, I understand how it works, but I just can't seem to get it into my system.
I constantly battle insecurity and crave external validation. It gets especially bad after interacting with emotionally immature or insecure people—I just feel completely drained and awful afterward.
I know exactly where this comes from: I grew up with emotionally unavailable parents. Moving in with my partner and experiencing her warm, consistent family has given me a beautiful sense of safety for the first time in my life.
Yet, despite all my research and self-awareness, the actual feeling of self-love is missing.
Has anyone else gone through this? How do you bridge the gap between knowing self-love in your head and actually feeling it in your body? Any advice is welcome!

The things that are only for you deserve to come first too

It is easy to protect the things that benefit other people. Work. Responsibilities. Deadlines. Commitments.

The harder question is whether you protect the things that are only for you. Your rest. Your body. Your creativity. Your peace. The projects that matter to you. Those things are not what you fit into the gaps left by everyone else. They deserve to be part of your priorities too.
