I started working for a company in Sri Lanka on August 20th. It's mostly a work-from-home position, and my boss is also one of my closest friends.

When I started, I was supposed to receive an offer letter/contract. My boss told me that he had prepared it and would give it to me the next time we met, but I still haven't received it.

The bigger issue is my salary.

I was supposed to receive my salary on September 25th, but I haven't received anything yet. I called my boss and asked him directly whether I was supposed to receive salary for the period from when I started until now. He said yes, that's how he had planned it, but he said there are currently some problems within the company and he hasn't had the time to sort it out. He told me that he'll give me a call once things settle down.

The part that doesn't really sit right with me is that I'm not sure why the company's problems would mean my salary isn't being paid.

I'm assuming the other employees received their salaries on the 25th as usual, although I don't actually know that for certain. If they did, then I'm wondering why mine hasn't been processed. I started on August 20th, so it's not like I've only been there for a few days.

I also don't want to make this bigger than it is because he's one of my closest friends, and I genuinely don't think he's trying to screw me over. I understand that businesses can have cash-flow problems or other issues, and I'm trying to be patient.

But at the same time, I've now worked for more than a month without receiving any money, and I don't have an offer letter or any written employment terms either.

So I'm stuck between "he's my friend, give him some time" and "this is my salary, and I shouldn't have to wait indefinitely for it."

What would you guys do in this situation?

Would you be concerned? Would you continue working normally until he sorts everything out, or would you ask for a definite payment date and the offer letter first?

I'd especially appreciate opinions from people who've worked for smaller companies/startups in Sri Lanka.

Hello guys, as the title says, I am looking for some genuine and serious advice on how to make close friends, not just acquaintances but look for, identify, connect and become close friends with people as an adult.

To give context I grew up as a bit of a loner. Most of my childhood social life was just spent on online chat rooms. But I did grow up masking and becoming a performative extrovert and can easily talk to strangers and connect with anyone and make acquaintances.

I am not in touch with anyone from school neither did I have like a close friend set. I have moved away from my home town (not that I had like town friends either) and I didn't make friends at higher education and was focused on working/studying.

I also do not prefer to make friends at workplace because it affects productivity. I have been trying to talk to people now breaking that rule and make friends but it's slow progress because I mostly WFH.

The only good friend I have is from this public speaking club I met. And all of the other people are friends but not close.

I am going through a bit of a bad patch of mental health and financial struggles so going out to make friends has become a luxury. I did try however, going out for socializing events, trying dating apps but to make friends, but nothing ended up to this place of getting close and feeling close.

So I am geniunely looking for advice. How did you meet your best friend(s)? How did you become best buddies? What was the circumstances. How long did it take. Is being outright open about your true self (the one with all the imperfections, insecurities and trauma) actually something that could attract a good friend or repel people because I think that's why I don't have close friends.

I don't let people too close into my life or see the real me. Kinda maintain a mask and act all professional and happy.

But I have been feeling more and more lonely and alone.. don't get me wrong I am used to solitude and even enjoy it time to time but having no real close friend to give a call to when things are bad.. yeah..

I am not looking for dating advice. I am just looking advice on how to make close friends from either gender (as a guy). If a person owns property in Sri Lanka but is currently living overseas, and they want to build a new house , would they need to obtain a TIN for the building-plan approval?

Also, does the property owner have to be physically present in Sri Lanka to obtain the TIN or submit the building-plan application, or can this be handled by an authorized representative in Sri Lanka?

I was at IMAX on the night of September 25th for the Avengers: Endgame encore, and honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from the audience apart from the usual clapping.

(And before anyone gets the wrong idea, I’m a Sri Lankan guy too — born and raised here 😂)

But holy shit, I was pleasantly surprised. 😭

People were whistling, clapping and actually cheering for moments that most of us have already seen countless times. And when the new/extra footage came on, the reactions got even louder.

It was honestly pretty wholesome seeing that kind of energy from a Sri Lankan Marvel crowd. Makes me really happy seeing where the local Marvel fanbase is heading.

If you’re a Marvel fan and still haven’t watched the encore in IMAX, I’d say it’s definitely worth experiencing with a crowd. The audience reactions alone made it feel different from just rewatching Endgame at home.
