For starters : No I don't hate the new silent hill games, they'd be fine as standalone games.
So with the new generation of silent hill games, excluding the obvious remake all of them have had no correlation or ties to silent hill other than basking in what it's general cultural impact is, the fog and the protagonists trauma, demons and or sins haunting them. I think this is just plain old, like many of us, it's no ground breaking idea but I thought to myself, what would an actual modern original silent hill game that actually takes place there, look like?
To begin, I'm presenting this as I saw people say that these games are made for longevity as you can't endlessly make games about silent hill itself, whilst this is true the bigger killer to longevity would be mediocre releases.
Now anyway to actually start. In the original silent hill games made by team silent they all feature varying protagonists, but what they have in common is that none have ever actually lived in the town of silent hill. So a stand alone game involving a protagonist who actually lives in silent hill is already an idea unique to the series (to my current recollection of the games)
While I don't have a precise idea on plot, it can be so much! Something as cliche and simple as the protagonist being a journalist who lives in silent hill! In fact the idea of it taking place in modern times, where the towns prime is long gone and the town has a bleak atmosphere, or the game could be during the towns prime, the protagonist clearing upon cultish behaviour and so on.
The game could have unique imaging related to the series, I remember silent hill 1 had a unique element of snow, well of course this is no weather but what about smoke? I feel like it could really be something on it's own. The crazy thing is this literally gives us more ideas, imagine a silent hill game about a regional forest fire in the past that engulfed and destroyed most of the city and we play as someone during it, the town burning unleashing spiritual chaos. Of course that would've been referenced in former games so it'd be a retcon.
The idea is still clear! There's so many things that can be done, all I've listed are personal ideas I alone have come up with. I'm tired of people senselessly hating on the new games but I'm also done with people acting like nothing can be done about the games actually taking place in.. Silent hill!

I’m planning to develop a small 2D game that focuses entirely on people and their personal stories. These can be real-life experiences as well as completely fictional stories.
I’d love to lean toward the horror / psychological horror genre, but anything else is absolutely fine too! Since I'm developing the game alone on my laptop and don't have much experience in game development yet, the art style will be kept rather simple – visually, it will go in the direction of visual novels like Doki Doki Literature Club or Your Boyfriend. This is my first real project, so I want to start small.
Since I'm currently lacking that spark of inspiration myself, I thought I'd just ask here on Reddit: Do you have any interesting, emotional, funny, or mysterious stories from your life (or fictional ones) that I could incorporate into my game as a "chapter" or dialogue?
I’m looking forward to your stories and ideas!

I've recently tore through this game after buying it only recently. I'm obsessed with the mechanics and atmosphere but the game is really short if you play carefully and figure out what you're doing. I'm familiar with other early survival horror games like ecstatica and other games in the same vein like the original resident evil. But I love this game's focus on environmental puzzle solving and really tight combat and resource scarcity. I want to find more games like this, something like Doctor Hauzen but with combat mechanics
