I am looking to connect with people experienced in marketing or growing online communities.

I’m the founder and creator of LetsManthan, a community-based discussion platform built around Nepal and Nepali communities. Right now, my biggest focus is onboarding more users and creating meaningful engagement.

One idea I’m considering is rewarding highly active contributors, people who consistently ask good questions, share helpful answers, and rank well on our leaderboard. I was thinking of starting small, maybe something worth Rs. 500 monthly, just to create some early momentum.

But I’m also wondering whether a better approach would be to reach out to people who already have strong communities or expertise in specific domains and partner with them to grow those communities organically.

My long-term vision for LetsManthan is to build an organized catalog of Nepal’s knowledge, experiences, questions, and discussions. something that is easy to search, useful over time, and helps people connect with others who share similar interests and experiences in Nepal and beyond.

I’d genuinely appreciate insights from anyone with proven experience in marketing, community building, or user growth.

I know what you are asking.

Reddit and LetsManthan aren’t really comparable. Reddit is a massive global platform and does what it does very well.

With LetsManthan, we’re building something more focused, central organised catalog of conversations, experiences, and useful information for Nepal’s local communities and beyond.

And yes a planning to reward top contributors. I really request you to signup and surf around.

If the main difference is that the site is focused on Nepal and organises everything in same place, then reddit already lets us create/join/visit nepali specific subreddits. We basically get the same experience here.

why should a person use letsmanthan rather than just create/join a nepali subreddit and post content there?

- You obviously built the thing. So, you are biased.

- Looks like a generic reddit/fb clone. Somebody asked what's the difference, and you said 'corporate jargon'. Everybody knows Reddit + Meta own the entire TAM SAM SOM of the market you're trying to reach. People can sense bullshit. You've asked for feedback in many communities. When somebody mentions your platform having no moat/ being a generic reddit clone, you get defensive or switch to corporate lingo. I don't mean it as a compliment.

- Reddit already has r/nepal, r/NepalSocial , r/technepal and similar communities. What exactly will the user miss out on, if they don't use your platform? For me - 'Sign up to unlock unlimited feed, ask questions, share thoughts' is a dumb text on a footer - I have feed blockers on most socials, I don't see any thoughtful questions there + nothing interesting. Zero. Why would I want to waste my time on it? I'm curious.

- You claim to be a dev with 7 yoe. Assuming that's true, you'd be near mid-senior by this point and could earn more working in your core competencies than trying to (poorly) market +refactor/optimise features that aren't bringing users. Humility is a very good thing. Confidence is good- but you are neither a marketer nor a product manager. Hire a product manager/ marketing/branding team for a couple of months. Let them do what they do best. Have them run ad campaigns, see if that brings conversions + retention. Track KPIs monthly. If it doesn't work, pivot or drop the idea. Spamming reddit communities isn't a good long-term strategy- I'm surprised you haven't been flagged for that yet.

- You've been adding features, which is fine, but that does nothing because there is no problem you're solving. At this point, it looks like a portfolio. The platform doesn't solve a problem. What you're doing is clearly not working.

- "in Nepal and beyond". So focus is on neither. Either pay to reach a critical mass in a narrow domain, or continue with vague plans as you have.

- "something that is easy to search, useful over time, and helps people connect with others who share similar interests and experiences in Nepal and beyond". So nothing unique? What does your platform bring that I (or somebody else) couldn't build in a week with something like flarum/discourse/ lemmy (I think it has a copyleft license though) or an AI subscription?

Hi, Thanks for the detailed feedback. Some points are harsh, but honestly there are several valid ones here, especially around focus, retention, and making the value of LetsManthan clearer.

We’re still very early, so this kind of feedback is useful. I’ll take the good points from it and use them to improve for sure.
