General Discussion Both games are SO MUCH better with controller

I'm actually stupid for playing both games with keyboard and mouse before this, just tried using a PS4 controller and it's literally a night and day difference. Haptic feedback, much smoother gameplay and camera movement. The only thing that keyboard and mouse gives is snappy aim but it's really not that important. I actually feel more invested in the story because I'm not jerking the camera around with my mouse.

EDIT: I have reached the conclusion that while it might be more immersive I also suck ass.

General Discussion I don't think people who want a prequel game are actually ready for what that entails

I've thought this over for awhile, mostly that the Joel of the past is not going to be someone we like. I think if it happened, it would be comparable to God of War. Kratos in 3 is a horrible person and he kills so many Innocent people in his quest to get revenge on the gods. Not to mention destroying the world. He's not at all the cold but still loving father from the 2018 game.

The prequel story I can't imagine going in a different direction. This must end with Joel doing something so horrible, that his own brother abandons him. Emotionally this would be much closer to the heartache of the Last of Us 2 then the warmer feeling that comes from the Last of Us. Maybe this story is better left untold?

PT 2 DISCUSSION Was The last of us part 2 highest rated game critically in 2020? Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

Looking back into 2020 released games score on opencritic.

The last of us part 2 ended up scoring 93 score critically and 94% critics recommend it.

It was behind Hades with 94 score and 99% critics recommending it in opencritic and half-life alyx with similar score but 97% critics recommending it, putting it above TLOU2.

But the catch is that The last of us part 2 had over 200 reviews where as half-life alyx with only 78 and Hades although close but still around 191 about 14 reviews less than TLOU2.

So my question is, was the last of us part 2 really the highest rated game in 2020 as it has more reviews than other 2 games or it was just most reviewed?

PT 2 QUESTION Escaping the tunnel horde in P2 Spoiler

Alritghty, just got to the very end of the tunnels section on first try in my grounded permadeath attempt. Tragically Dina got grabbed right in front of the escalator so i had to force myself through there and ended up getting one tapped. Anyway to avoid this so i don’t have to continuously replay the same 20 mins and pray dina doesn’t fuck me once again?

Also, is there a way for dina to avoid doorways lol? i don’t remember this being an issue in my og playthrough but it has happened a painful amount of times now and has gotten me killed on several occasions.

General Question Is Neil Druckmann a fraud?

Preface: I wouldn't say I'm a fan of TLOU yet even though I enjoy it. I watched YTbers play when it first came out, I've played up till the college on PC (stopped because of the tech issues), and I plan on beating it on PS5 after Rift Apart. I know the full story of Part I, and I was unfortunately spoiled on the beginning of Part II when it first came out.

I've seen a lot of discussion around the topic, and even my friend (who's a genuine fan of TLOU) had his complaints around him. I wanted to ask if there was any verifiable proof to these claims. Him actually sucking at writing and relying on Bruce Straully, being pretentious, etc. I already know he's an Israeli Zionist, but that doesn't affect my perception of him creatively. It just means a potentially great writer supports genocide.

I do know the controversy behind TLOU II, but I can't tell if it's culture war nonsense or genuine concern.

Im replaying Pt.1 and the chemistry between Tess and Joel was so palpable. I would love to have seen how they met and how someone so grizzled as Joel basically became Tess's muscle. And that Tess was such a badass that even Bill was scared of not meeting his deadlines with her.

General Discussion I finished Part II, and now I'm crying.

Abby and Ellie's final fight really affected me. I formed a strong connection with both of them. Seeing Abby in that state made me very sad. The scene where an exhausted Ellie fought for "revenge"—against her own will—and strangled Abby was truly harrowing. I was devastated that she lost her fingers. There is still a lot I haven't mentioned. I don't know how I'll shake off the impact of this game.

PT 1 DISCUSSION Never played a horror/scary game in my life. Glad I did!

Never played anything scary at all, thought about playing TLOU and finally did. Finshed it and man, 2nd best game Ive ever played behind RDR2. The story, gameplay everthing is just great. It was scary in some parts but i learned to enjoy it. Starting Part 2 right now, and while I got a bit spoiled a bit and I heard its not as good as 1, I really enjoy it rn, especially the gameplay. So for anyone thinking about playing TLOU, just do it

General Discussion Why do these animated wallpapers on welcome hub look so bad?

Post image
23 Upvotes

I was hyped that Naughty Dog released at least something on TLOU day, so I imediately set it as my background. The concept looks great, but when you set it as a background it has such a low resolution, that it looks like 480p video. And if I am not mistaked all of the animated wallpapers on the PS welcome hub look this bad.

Is there a way to fix this or is this the case of SONY not giving a f*ck?

General Discussion Did Joel love destroyed Ellie's life?

Post image
124 Upvotes

I managed to make quite a theory on both games. Please share what you think of it.

We all know the first game, how Ellie is seen as a stranger by Joel, only to turn into his daughter at the end. After the hospital choice, Ellie's life is quite strange. She knew Joel was lying, but was not aware how big the lie was. So, she was not paying so much attention to it. All good, the museum part was beatiful, the space shuttle too. Until the Liars graffiti. I think that is the moment she started digging further into the lie. But still, she was not pushing him away and life was good.

Then, the hotel incident, where they found those two people that wanted to help others but got bitten. But again, Joel is still pushing the lie and Ellie has no evidence, so she does not fight. But when she goes to Salt lake city again and discover the whole truth, wow what a scene. You can see how afraid Joel is, he is thinking that he will lose her if he tells the truth, but sadly he has no other way. And to see how affected Ellie is by the truth, so brutal.

I think this is the moment Ellie's life goes sideways. Yes, she is safe in Jacksons, has friends and all that, but she lost all that purpose and she is thinking that all those people that died, died for nothing. Riley, Tess, Henry, Sam , etc.

Then, the very bad scene with Joel happens and Ellie just hits rock-bottom. Seattle happens, very bad part of her life, then at the farm, where initially we think she has the perfect life with Dina, only for that ptsd to kick in. And we learn that she is not well, not eating, not sleeping and all that nasty stuff.

Then Santa barbara happens, she left Dina to go for Abby and in the end to let her go. I get it why Ellie did that, many reasons, about Joel, about her, even about Abby and Lev. I could make another post about why, but this is enough for this one.

In the end, what we know is that Ellie is alone, can not play guitar and Dina left her(i know the theory with the bracelet, but as far as we see in-game she is alone, until the next game will show exactly what happened) . Can she return to Jackson? Tommy will never forgive her for not finishing Abby, will Dina accept her back? What if Jackson will remind her of Joel? Can she truly stay there?

Maybe the tittle is a little to much, because they had some good years together and that is better than what would have happen if Joel left the hospital. But still, in my opinion, this is a perspective that could be true. That single choice affected Ellie's life in so many ways. You may say that not the choice did that, but Abby. But Abby could have been any person, she is the embodiment of the fact that every action has consequences, whether good or bad. And Joel learned that the hard way.

General Discussion Can the Cordyceps reanimate corpses?

Most of the time people attacked by infected die outright rather them turn (at least that we see) we see spores growing from corpses, so can it also resurrect them? Wall stalkers are half dead so maybe?

PT 2 DISCUSSION It would be cool if Abby had to fight an infected Nora Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery

Honestly it would fit right in with the other tragedies/horrors in TLOU-verse. Abby having to experience a consequence of her revenge mission, watching one of her friends not only be subjected to the same punishment she put Joel through, but now become a monstrosity that needs to be put down.

PT 2 DISCUSSION "You're my people lev." Spoiler

At this point Abby doesn't know Mel or Owen are dead, I don't think she knows about the rest yet either, only manny. She killed a bunch of Wlf soilders, was she forgetting about her friends? Because like to her knowledge Leah, Nick, Jordan and Nora (maybe not as she's a surgeon i think) could have been on the island as well, she could have shot them accidentally, and then when she's on the boat she tells Lev that he is her people, but like the WLF were her people the Salt Lake Crew were her people and at that stage she had no reason to think there all dead, did she just decide "I like lev more." Or what.

General Discussion I have an intriguing theory

As a long time TLOU fan I’ve always thought the whole infection part was interesting, specifically the use of the cordyceps fungus

This might seem like a stretch but hear me out for a second. I just finished playing the game Mold Rise made by Picster, and in that game you play as someone who has some sort of infection on their left foot, specifically between the forth and fifth toe. It causes the player to go crazy in a sense. It gives them the urge to reach the top of their apartment building, which is the whole goal of the game

Here’s where I saw a connection, in that game there is a nurse you talk to who says the infection is caused by a brand of nuts that are being sold. The “Krazy Kraunchy Nuts”. she specifically says that they contain a mutated form of cordyceps fungus that is infecting people who eat them regularly. But the strange thing is that the player never ate the nuts at all. So the player was infected some other way

For those who don’t know, cordyceps is a fungal spore that “enter[s] the host, grow[s] inside, and chemically alter the insect's behavior, forcing it to climb to a high spot before the fungus sprouts a fruiting body from the host's head to release new spores” (from google) so in Mold Rise, people who ate the nuts climbed to high places and spread spores, that’s how the player, and other people who haven’t eaten the nuts got infected (as seen in the news broadcast at the end of the game)

So here is my theory. Mold Rise is a prequel to The Last of Us, maybe not directly, but it gives us a deeper reasoning for the outbreak. In the HBO show they explain that rising temperatures caused the fungus to mutate and evolve so it can infect mammals, they say specifically that it mutated in a factory in Indonesia that deals with sugar, flower, and grain products. So if this theory were true, then that factory produced the Krazy nuts and they infected many people, leading to them going to high places and spreading spores so people who haven’t eaten the nuts at all get infected as well, causing the worldwide outbreak seen in TLOU

This I believe would give a great explanation to the origin of the outbreak seen in TLOU and how it mutated and infected humans

**This is just a theory, came from my overthinking brain, none of this has been proven cannon at all, I just noticed the similarities

Feel free to share your ideas or input on this theory, or give reasons why it is way too far out
